Who: Maeko, Gendou. Kanaye may be hanging around somewhere?
What: OI
Where: Skypark
When: Early evening.
Why: EXCUSE ME COULD YOU STOP LYING.

Maeko wanted Gendou to be responsible for this. Because if he was it meant she hadn't beem quite as gulliable in trusting Misaki ever. It still seemed unlikely, Misaki's blaming him seemed like a stunt to avoid the blame herself, but right now he was the only person who was blameable.

So, dammit, he was being blamed.

She'd told him she needed to talk to him about council business and waited at the skypark. The fact that she could see her appartment block from here was why she'd chosen this meeting place and it was a sign of agression, though not one that was likely to be read. This was her territory. Not the school, where Gendou was boss. She could see her house from here and in Maeko's mind that meant she was in charge.

She sat quietly on a bench, checking through her messages, and waited for Gendou to show up.

"Oh, sweet!" Kanaye was still puzzled as to why he's getting farther into his ex's house AFTER he broke up with her, but didn't really care. "I'll come in, then. After you?"

Maeko headed in, making sure that Kanaye was near the door before she let go of it because it would lock again once it closed.

"I'm going to go up the stairs." She said, motionning to aforementionned stairs. "You can use the elevator if you want, though. It's the top floor."

Kanaye entered the building, still kind of weird-ed out. This building was smaller then his house, and LOTS of people lived here? It was...odd, to him.

Kanaye shuddered, shook his head, and followed Maeko to the stairs. "No thanks, Maeko-chan. I'm using the stairs too."

"Oh, okay then." Maeko said, heading upstairs.

She hadn't been exaggerating when she said there were a whole lot of stairs. But they reached the top eventually without incident.

Maeko paused for a second to catch her breath and then fumbled around with her keys again, unlocking a door on the right.

Kanaye, on the other hand, wasn't even winded. He looked down the stairs and whistled. "That is a lot. Man, I should come here more often. That looks like a great place to train."

He waited for her to enter.

"...most people aren't quite that enthuseastic about climbing stairs." Maeko said, pausing before laughing. She entered, hanging her keys on a hook by the door.

The appartment could probably be kindly described as efficient. It wasn't a centimetre bigger than it absoloutely needed to be. This was common in appartments so close to the centre of town, but most appartments in the middle of town didn't house a family.

It was probably forunate that Maeko was an only child.

The front door led to a small living room, a good half of which was taken up by a large desk, selection of drawing boards and what was less a bookshelf and more a bizzare torture device for peices of wood with a large pile of books, in addition to the ones that were visibly bending the shelves. What remained of the room contained a small couch with a table by it.

"You can sit down if you like." Maeko said, leaving her outdoor shoes in the doorway and entering. It was strange, speaking here.

"..." Kanaye gaped. This...was where she lived? Wow. This was tiny. Even a salaryman's salary could pay for a bigger house, right? He really couldn't get why Maeko lived in something so small.

Careful to not cause the books to fall down, Kanaye sat on the couch slowly. "Is your mother home?" He asked.

Maeko shook her head. "She's translating so she went on his trip with him."

She smiled sheepishly. "Sorry about the mess, my dad works in here and he kind of has things organized in a way he understands."

"Oh. Right. It has got to suck to be deaf..." Kanaye sighed. "Can't imagine it would be much better to be related to them, though..."

"No worries. My room's much the same." He stood up and looked around. "Speaking of which, where's your room?"

"I'm sure it does. I think I enjoyed being in a world without sound when it was small but that changes when you find out that people can talk and you just don't understand it. I think it must be scary."

Maeko motionned down a corridor to the left. A kitchen was visible at the far end, four doors along the right side wall of it. "My room's the third door. Do you want a drink or anything? There's lemonade I think."

Kanaye nodded. "Yeah. If you don't know anything different, it probably seems like a good idea. The...teasing must have been enormous. I'm sorry, Maeko-chan."

"I'll take lemonade, thanks!"

Maeko shrugged. "I didn't understand most of it, it's not like it could bother me all that much."

She quickly headed into the kitchen, digging through a shopping bag she'd put off emptying and putting away (nobody else was home to care, after all, and there wasn't anything that would go off. This might have been Maeko's attempt at being rebellious.) to produce two small lemonade bottles. she handed one to Kanaye.

"If you think so, Maeko-chan..." Kanaye doubted this, given what he saw of her shadow, but said no more.

Taking it, Kanaye smiled. "Thanks, Maeko-chan!" He opened it and drank a bit, then looked around. "I like this place. It's smaller then I used to, but it seems more...human, maybe? Lived in?"

Maeko drank. It was refreshing, less so than it would have been if she'd put the drinks in the fridge like she was supposed to. Then again, between Renju and Kigakiga? She'd had more than sufficient cold things this summer.

"Lived in's certainly corrct. Dad works from here and doesn't like being out in the noise. I think he leaves the house less than Ishinomori-san must. It's rare for there not to be anyone in."

Drinking some more, Kanaye blinked. "That's certainly interesting. I can't imagine he would go out alone much, given everything, but you'd think your mom would take him out occasionally. You gotta admit, to love someone like that...it takes guts."

He shrugged. "You don't have a TV, though? I think they have subtitles for some things, and you and your mother could watch it, at least."

Maeko shook her head. "Nope. He leaves the house for meetings or to attend things like his Obon trips and that's about it." She shrugged. "It's not really like that..."

She took the opportunity to change the subject and shook her head. "Dad says they're noisy, even if they're on mute."

"Why isn't it like that, though? Were your parents in an omiai or something?" Kanaye doubted this, given her father was disowned.

"...He's deaf. Does he just hate sound or something?" He shook his head. "That's stupid."

"...not formally or anything, no." Maeko said, shaking her head.

"He says it...'looks loud?' or something. I wasn't even allowed to listen to music through headphones until a few years ago."

"...Then why...?" Kanaye really couldn't get it. Obviously, neither family was rich or powerful. "Are both of your parents hot or something?" It's the only thing he could think of.

"...That makes no sense." He shook his head. "It's one thing to be deaf, it's another to force that on your family..."

"-What?" Maeko started giggling after the inital shock, then shook her head and calmed down. "My mother was his employee, he hired her to transate for him. Then her father died and she couldn't pay rent with just her wages and she had nowhere else to go so he let her stay. Then when my father's family contacted him and said he'd be invited back if he had a child they..." She shrugged. "It was all just a matter of convenience and owing each other."

"I don't mind that much. I'm allowed to watch TV on my laptop now if I need to. I don't really have much time to waste on things like that, anyway."

"...Ah." He shuddered. "That would be rather creepy, honestly, being attached to someone you barely know because of familial relations and money issues."

"Well, everyone needs to have fun somehow, Maeko-chan!"

"It's not really creepy. But they just don't get along so well." She shrugged again. "There's a lot of arranged marriages amoungst the parents of the students at Nanakamado. This situation's nowhere near the worst."

"Work's...kind of fun." Maeko realized how stupid that sounded too late to change the sentence. So decided she would stick with it and just say she was right of challenged.

"I guess so..." He shrugged. "I always hated arranged marriages. I mean, I guess it's because I'm not used to them, but it seriously seems stupid, especially like Kiriko's situation, where the person doesn't want it."

"...Right..." He sighed. "I really need to take you out more, to enjoy yourself. I doubt you'd enjoy partying, sadly, but maybe we can go eat or something? With some other friends, of course!"

"They seem pretty normal to me. I'm lucky that my father probably wouldn't insist on something like that but if he would I don't think I'd complain too much." Maeko still had it in her head that Kiriko had objected to that one guy specifically.

"That sounds nice. You're friends with Seiko-chan, right?"

"Well...It's probably just a cultural thing. My mansion was more like a western country, and omiai and stuff aren't as common over there. I'm not even sure if it's legal..." He sighed. "I don't think it's a good thing. It's limiting too much personal freedom."

"Oh, yeah! Seiko-chan and I go way back. She used to be in my class, but..." he shrugged.
