Who: Seiko and Maeko
What: Kidnapping.
When: Around noon when Maeko gets off work.
Where: Outside Maeko's work to begin with.
Why: Seiko is Captain Compassion.

Seiko had a plan, a plan so devious, so incredible she had not told another soul of its true nature. She was going to kidnap Maeko. Because Maeko needed a break, Seiko had been keeping an eye on her friend, and she had decided what the other girl needed was a proper little break from the area and see she at least one friend who did normal nice things with her.

However Seiko was fairly sure Maeko would not agree to the idea if just asked, this was where the kidnap came in, She would innocently wait outside the ice cream shop were Maeko worked, say she was just passing and offer her a lift. Then she'd lock the doors of her Katarai ( one of Satou Motors' latest cars)with its handy carlock button and they'd be off.

She lent against her car outside the ice cream shop, all there was to do now was to wait for Maeko....

It was becoming easier to work with the ice cream again, thankfully. That had been an awkward week or so, all things considered.

Work was nice. Dealing with customers was so much easier than dealing with Misaki and Kanaye. Except for when the other parttimer had mentionned seeing 'your friend' around the other day. That had sent her on edge.

But the shift was over. Now to go home and make envelopes and translate phone calls.

"Ah, Seiko-chan!" Using a given name still felt odd. But it was nice, too. "Were you here to eat? If I go in to I could see if they'll give us a discount!"

Seiko smiled a natural bright smile, the target had arrived...

"I was in town looking for some stuff for Goro-sama, and thought you'd be getting off work about now...So I stopped by to give you a lift back." she bounced on her heels with a sunny smile, she had spent ages rehearsing that in her head.

"What do you say?" she patted her car invitingly.

"Oh, that's a kind offer!" Maeko said, smiling. She thought, trying to remember if she was supposed to pick anything up from the store on the way home. She concluded that she wasn't. "Thank you so much!"

Seiko opened the passenger door for Maeko, watching carefully as her friend climbed in and closing the door with great attention. She then hopped round and flung herself into the driver's seat and started the engine and sneakily hitting the carlock.

"So how are you Maeko-chan?" Seiko said in her usual cheerful manner, as if this was a normal afternoon free from kidnap.

"I'm fine! There's a lot to do this time of you so they have me running around a lot but at least it isn't boring." She nodded to herself. She wasn't so tired but she was glad to be spared the walk home. "How have you been?"

"I've been good, looking after my Dad a bit more recently, he gets lonely mostly." she shrugged a little, rather going into a long speech about her awesome father, after all she doubted Maeko would want to hear it.

She also hoped Maeko wasn't looking out the window, because they were just about to pass the school gates.

"Anyway! Have you done all the homework yet?" she asked cheerily hoping to distract Maeko from the windows.

"Ah, I'm glad you're so close" Maeko said, nodding.

"I have, I did it in the first week while I was staying up to keep an eye on- wait, did I tell you where I live yet?"

...because if she was driving without that information it was pretty worrying.

"Oh yeah you told me." Seiko said reassuringly, lying of course, but only temporarily, this was for Maeko's own good after all, Seiko continued to drive, the route to the Zoo was easy enough, but she had it memorised so they could get there quickly before Maeko noticed where they were going and tried to get out.

"I'm glad you are on top of things, this...'stuff' can get in the way of regular life it seems."

"Ah, I must have forgotten." At this point, it didn't seem unfathomable. She'd been losing a lot of time around the time she was looking after Misaki, forgetting chunks of an hour or so at a time. Maybe she'd spoken about it around that time?

"It's problematic but I think we're making the best of it. Some of is probably would have never spoken to each other if it wasn't for this. I doubt I'd have ever really talked to" Kanaye. "Ikeda-san. Or Sagaki. We're a mixed bunch."

"Oh hey, I think you should have gone down that road..."

"I think it was just a passing comment once, I just memorised it cause I had just got the car you see, so everything about routes and stuff was very important!" she laughed a little and took a turning.

"Yeah I guess we are, but I hope in the end we will get on, I don't want there to be any accidents because we can't pull together at least in a fight." she sighed, she was trying to make friends with as many of the others as possible, but it was hard and she didn't want to force herself at people.

"Ah no its okay this is a shortcut, I checked the map whilst waiting for you." she trilled proud of her cover story.

"Okay, then!"

Maeko thought. "I think we can at leat put aside our differences and concentrate on working together when we need to. Being able to do it when it's not so important would be nice but it's not essential."

"Huh, really?" If Maeko had any reason to doubt Seiko she'd probably have worked out that they weren't going in the right direction at all now. But she didn't and seeing the roads from inside a car (which was a novelty in itself. it was rare for her to be in a car) was different from walking along them.

"I guess so, I'm just concerned, I'd hate for anyone to be hurt." she gave a small smile. "I guess maybe I worry too much or am too soft, I just want to make sure everyone will be okay."

"Oh yeah I had a few minutes and I didn't want to miss our destination." she said with a double meaning, amazed Maeko suspected nothing yet.

"We've been-" Maeko cut herself off. Fine was an obvious lie. "-We've survived this long. I'm sure we'll be okay."

"Ah, I'm-" ...wait, that bus stop was not between Kigakiga and the block of appartments where she lived. "...I think you're going the wrong way. Are you sure you checked a map?"

"I hope so." Seiko said calmly and thoughtfully.

"Ah well you see about that..." she smiled a little almost nervous. "Don't be mad but we are going to go on a....trip...of sorts." she nodded and braced herself a little, she was unsure how Maeko would react, hopefully without shouting or an attack.

Maeko froze up instantly. Out of control. Panic. Especially if she might possibly be-

-There was no way Seiko was a shadow, right? Right? And oh god, she had no real specific fear of cars but that one guy from thier school had died in that crash in march and-

-So it would be best not to try to provoke anything, just in case.

"-Where are we going?" She asked, trying not to let her tone change too much.

Seiko shrugged hoping Maeko wasn't too worried. "The Zoo." she said in an easy tone. "Figured you'd never let me take you if I asked, so I had to be a bit sneakier." she raised an eyebrow.

"Nothing sinister, I just want you to relax." Seiko grinned looking over at Maeko for a moment. "I just want you to have fun away from everything for once."

"...oh." Maeko relaxed a little but remained alert enough to react if knives suddenly became involved. Because that was a distinct possibility.

"Ah, okay." She laughed nervously. "You had me scared for a second there. Thanks, I guess."

"Maeko-chan, you work too hard." Seiko said gently. "You have so much responsibility not only that but you seem to end up looking after a lot of people. During all that not many people seem to notice you need...not 'looking after' but maybe just some attention." she sighed.

"I'm sure this probably freaked you a bit, but you'd never have come if I'd asked. Plus my Step Father got us special tickets which mean we can get close to a few of the animals...I think there is an elephant to pet?" she frowned in thought.

"I'm not sure, the leaflet is in the glove compartment if you want to look."

Maeko's own attitude toward gifts aside, it was very kind of Seiko to do something like this and it seemed genuine enough. Naturally, her mind was already racing to figure out ways to pay Seiko back so she wouldn't owe her.

But she laughed again, more genuinely this time even if it did end in one of those awkward 'heh...' followed by an uncomfortable silence things. It wasn't like Misaki's gifts, that made her feel like her former 'friend' was trying to buy her back, or Kanaye's, where the combination of being given things and being needed made the whole thing feel like she was being paid to stay. She wasn't entirely comfortable with this still but it really was just support from a friend. No strings attached except for an understanding that she would probably do the same if the situations were reversed. The sheer abnormality of the situation (her initial reaction to Renju's offer to help her study had been similar) reduced her to mumbles for a second. "I- I don't need- You didn't have to- ...Thank you."

There was still some hesitation as she openned the glove compartment. Maeko was mostly convinced this wasn't a shadow but there was still a tiny possibility there'd be a severed head or something in there. The post continued under the assumption that there wasn't. She took the leaflet and read through it quietly, giving the occasional 'oh hey, this one sounds cool'.

"Thank you." She repeated, voice a little stronger now. "It's very thoughtful of you."

Seiko kept half an eye on Maeko, she wasn't shouting or screaming to be let out, so all in all this phase of the plan had been a success. However she had known the other girl would be a bit uncomfortable to begin with, she had guessed maybe Maeko didn't get too many friendly kidnappings. She sighed as her friend mumbled.

"I did have to, all you seem to do is work besides a few short breaks. Everyone needs to have some time off, and you have had a bit of a rough time." Seiko didn't want to bring up details, after all this was meant to be a nice trip out, rather than discussing Maeko's personal life, and it wasn't her business anyway. Kanaye had needed a sympathetic ear, Maeko was far more self reliant than that.

"So this trip is as much for me as it is for you, I'd feel bad if I didn't do something. We are friends Maeko-chan, so I will always do my best to help you smile."

"I really want to see the penguins if that is okay with you!"

"The penguins?" Maeko's mind raced for a second. But penguins, she concluded, weren't all that bird-ish. Distinct enough to not really count, hopefully. "Sure, of course!"

She smiled. "I really am fine, though. I like working, I just get restless if I'm not. And all that's...probably all resolved, I think."

Seiko was of course unaware of any problem with mentioning birds, penguins to here were merely, cute an amusing. "Is there anything you want to see in particular?" Seiko asked as finally they were pulling into the Zoo car park.

"Resolved? Thats good!" She wasn't that sure she believed Maeko, after all she knew Kanaye pretty well and had met Misaki, which gave her enough information to conclude that neither of them we perhaps the easiest people to deal with in a bad situation.

"Anyway we are here!"

Maeko emerged from the car carefully. It did, at least, seem to be the zoo.

She considered the question. "Lizards for sure, they're cool! And frogs, are there frogs?"

Seiko grabbed Maeko by the elbow to lead her to the entrance reserved for those with prebooked tickets.

"They have an amphibian zone I believe." Seiko replied with an excited grin. "I mean cause the school uses this place for biology classes so the Zoo gets special grants to get lots of different animals and breeding programs." she said half reading the leaflet and half remembering what her biology teacher had told her.

"Maeko I know you are still a bit shaken up, but just relax okay?"

"Really? Awesome!" Maeko seemed significantly more PUMPED NOW by the prospect of frogs as she eventually went from being dragged to keeping up with Seiko and walking alongside her. "Is it just the penguins you're wanting to look at or is there anything else? We have to look at the big cats too for sure, right?"
