Who: Detective Mokoto Shirow and 2nd year class
What: Investigation into the death of Sato Kei and the disapperence of Oubai Kou
Where: Classroom 3-F at the School
When: Afternoon
Why: Because she's been assigned the case.

Mokoto got out of the black car as her partner got out of the passengers side. Looking around the grounds she pulled on her shades so that it was easier to see. Hokkaido was so very different then Tokyo had been. Brighter sun, or it felt like it, and the weather was a bit cooler by nature. She'd seen enough of the big city to know that it wasn't going to be easy getting along with the change of weather here in the winter.

She glanced around and looked at her partner, "So this is the school. Well off students huh?"

He gave a nod as she headed for the enterence where a teacher was waiting to greet her. Mokoto pulled off her shades and smiled at him, "Pleased to meet you, Detective Shirow of the Iburi metropolitan police department. I'm here to interview the students in regard to the case that I'm working."

Student Questioning

Detective Shirow and her partner sat at a table formed from four desks in classroom 3-F. The male detective was writing, while Shirow was looking over files on the students of classroom 2-B. The students had been informed that they would be meeting with the Detective and as their names were called they were to report to the classroom for questioning. Students that failed to show up were going to be visited later that evening at their house.

Mokoto sighed, there was a long list of names, this was going to be a long day. Taking a sip of her drink she waited for the first student to arrive. If anything she wanted to be juiced up with caffeine before the first person came in so she would be on the ball with this. The whole case bothered her, and she had seen enough in Tokyo to know that something wasn't normal at the school.

When there was a knock on the door frame, she looked up, "Please come in."

A family name beginning with A meant Maeko was at the top of the register.

She wasn't at all happy about being dragged out of class, even less so about having to go first, but she didn't want to talk to the detective at her home where she would have to translate everything.

"Good Afternoon." She said politely, entering the room.

Mokoto looked up and nodded, "Ah Good Afternoon. Please have a seat."

The officer next to her quickly pulled up a file and took out his pen, "Your name please?"

"We need to know for our notes and refrences," Mokoto said and looked at Maeko gently but firmly. It was clear to the young student that the Detective would not tolerate lies or deception.

Maeko sat before speaking, looking up. It looked like she was fidgetting as she spoke. In truth, she was signing out of force of habit. She was used to her father being around whenever people were speaking this seriously.

"Akuba Maeko, class 2-B." She said, placing her hands back into her lap when she was done speaking.

"Pleased to meet you Akuba-san, I'm Detective Mokoto Shirow, and this is Officer Edagowa. We're here to ask you some questions about Sato Kei-san and would really appricate it if you cooperate with us and answer the questions honetly," Mokoto explained and looked at her.

"I know this must be hard on you and your fellow classmates, but I am treating you all right now as witnesses. We need to know what you know in order for us to fully understand what was going on with Sato-san when he died. If he was having any problems or if there was anything that was happening that could give us some clues as who would want to hurt him."

Mokoto blinked a bit and smiled when she saw the hand gestures, "You're fluent in sign language I see. A good thing to know in this day and age." She quickly changed the subject, "Now first off, relax and take your time answering, no one is going to bite your head off if you don't remember things, but if you do we want you to call us okay. It's really important that we get to know everything we can, and your help is important to the case."

She sat back and nodded to the officer, "Officer Edagowa is going to record our converstation. Are you alright with that?"

"Ah..." Maeko started. She hadn't noticed she'd been signing. She was even more surprised that the officer understood it.

"I understand, detective. I have no objections." She said, concentrating on keeping her hands still.

"Alright then," Mokoto sat back to seem relaxed. Getting people to talk was tricky. You had to be careful of what sort of tone you used and how you appeared. Get them to be jumpy and they would clam up on you, and in this case she didn't want that to happen.

Smileing gently at Maeko she asked, "Akuba-san, what can you tell me about Sato-san? Did you know him well?"

"We weren't close." Maeko said. "We were in the same class last year and his year until..." She trailed off and started a new sentence. "He was polite but we didn't really make friends. He skipped lessons a lot, except literature. He always showed up to literature. He visited the Anti Bullying club a lot last year but most of the time he wanted to talk about things that happened before he came to Nanakamado. Because it wasn't anything we could do anything about he was eventually refferred to the councellor directly so that we could deal with people who we could help instead. After that I didn't speak to him much. Because he didn't show up to class often the only time I really spoke to him was at the club."

"So Sato-san came frequently last year to your club. Did anyone talk to him after? What did he talk about might I ask?" Mokoto inqured. This could prove useful if there was the possiblity of things happening there that could have lead the boy to look for outside help.

"You said he skipped classes, how long was he gone for these periods, do you know? Also, did he ever talk about friends he was meeting when he left or where he went to?" Mokoto glanced at the other officer, "Ah...yes his family mentioned something about the literature, did he speak to anyone why he would come back for that class?"
