Who: Maeko, Kanaye
What: idk. Talking, I guess.
Where: Nanakamado
When: Just as clubs are finishing.
Why: wanted threads.

Maeko, proper and mature class rep of 2B, stuck her tongue out at Gendou's back as he walked off. It was her totally effective way of getting the last word in thier arguements. Student council meeting done, she unwrapped the anpan she'd been too busy to eat at lunch and wisely decided to eat it and run at the same time.

Some choking later, she arrived at the playing field with half the anpan (and most of a hurriedly bought 'oh no, I can't breathe! drink!' bottle of bromonade) in hand. She wasn't sure it was entirely normal to cheer when it was just practice and she just waved when she got close enough to tell which of the players was Kanaye.

"Ah! Are you okay?" Maeko returned the bromonade bottle to her bag and reached up, free hand close to but not actually touching Kanaye's neck before she decided that was stupid and pulled her hand back.

Kanaye was disappointed. He wanted contact, dammit! "Oh, no, I'm fine Maeko-chan. It's no worse then the injuries I usually receive during soccer and such. It'll work out eventually." Kanaye said, laughing and twisting his neck in order to prove a point. The only point it proved was the he's an idiot, because it still hurt. He didn't let that show, though.

Desperate for conversation, he decided to try out this "subtly" thing he has been hearing about. "Do you like anpan?" he asked, smiling. "I saw you eating some when you came over, but I don't know if you liked it or just wanted something to eat."

"Huh." Maeko was pretty sure that soccer was meant to be a non-contact sport. How one could get injured in it without falling down ws a little confusing to her. She decided not to inquire, realizing her boyfriend's luck probably had a lot to do with it. "Well, as long as you're not hurt..."

That has been a mistake. There were a few subjects that, once started off on, Maeko would never shut up about. Anpan was once of them.

"Of course I like it! It's sweet and it's cheap and it's way more convenient than a bowl of food or something and it's filling..."

She managed to cut herself short, but still went on for a good five minutes about the many virtues of anpan. "-and it's preatty easy to make too, even if I usually get the kind from the convenience store! It's the best food! ...Oh, but I was just eating it before because I was hungry, I skipped lunch."

Kanaye smiled, amused. Apparently, he found something his girlfriend likes. Subtly: One. Obviousness: Zero. For once, the advice for other people paid off. "Well then, Maeko-chan. I have another question for you. How about you and me go to a restaurant and get some anpan? You skipped lunch? Well, that's no good. We'll need to correct that, of course. Let's go!" he said, starting to walk faster.

He realized a flaw in this plan about five steps later. "...Anyway, Maeko-chan, is there anywhere you want to go for food? Or shall we just go find a place that is rumored to have nice anpan?"

"Well I've eaten now." She said, "I just slept during lunch intead. But okay! That sounds nice!"

"Oh, I guess I don't mind." She said, not being helpful at all.

Kanaye stopped suddenly. "Why? Were you tired? Did you get enough sleep?" All thoughts of anpan brushed from his mind, he looked over Maeko. She seemed fine, but... "Are you sick? Are you hurt? You are alright, right? You're not having any problems with Misaki? If there is anything wrong, you can tell me, alright?"

Maeko hadn't expected that. "It's okay!" She said, smiling and waving her hands. "I'm fine! I'd have one of those mask things if I was sick. I was just sleepy, it's not like I collapsed or anything."

She sighed. "Thanks for your concern, though. Sorry, I didn't mean to worry you."

Kanaye nodded, but still looked worried. "Don't worry, Maeko-chan. I'm your boyfriend, I'm supposed to be concerned about you."

"You shouldn't skip lunch." he advised, his voice happy. "We'll have to make up for that with anpan and other kinds of food! Let's go!"

He took another five steps before he remembered something important. "I have no idea where to go for anpan. Where shall we go?" he turned and asked.

"I didn't mean to." Maeko said, shrugging. She didn't think it was that big a deal. She had eaten just now, after all. "I was going to eat it on the way to the student council meeting but Retsu-senpai had some forms I needed to take to a teacher instead. I am fine, honest!"

As if to demonstrate this, she waved her free arm around for a few seconds.

"Huh, there's a bakery I go to with Misa-chan sometimes near noodle alley."

Kanaye twitched. "Are you sure it needed to be you, or was he just trying to make you skip lunch? Because I wouldn't put it past him. He's kind of a dick." he said flippantly.

Kanaye gasped and smiled. "Really? Awesome! Shall we walk, or shall I call for a driver?" he asked happily. The 'misa-chan' kind of irritated him, however, so he continued. "Do you know why Misaki wants people to call her -chan? Isn't that kind of familiar?" Kanaye ignored the hypocrisy.

"I don't think he could have known I was planning on eating after school. He's not really that smart." Maeko said, shrugging. "I usually end up with the student council's oddjobs anyway. They wouldn't get done otherwise."

"I hadn't noticed that. I think it's pretty normal for me to call her that way. I don't know about other people so much. We can walk, it's not that far." Maeko said, then realized after a second that while she had not been running around kicking things for the last hour or so Kanaye had. "Oh! Unless you're tired..."

Kanaye shrugged. "You never know, Maeko-chan. He is an idiot, but he's also petty and vindictive. I think." he said, slightly confused. "Whatever. It's sad that you get stuck with everything, but you are the most competent member, so it's to be expected."

"I know you do, and you have every right to. And so does Keiichi-san. But she's wanting me to call her that. It's...kind of creepy." Once again, he ignored the hypocrisy. He laughed and smiled. "No, no, Maeko-chan. I wouldn't want to waste time, and I'd be a horrible athlete if this tired me out."

"It doesn't bother me." Maeko said, shrugging. "If I'm doing more it means I have more control."

"You don't have to call her that, I don't think she'd be that insulted..." She suggested, finding it strange that Kanaye would have issues with familiarity. "Really? You're pretty strong, then. I'd be exhausted if I had to run around like that."

Kanaye smirked. "True enough. Control is a good thing." he lied happily. Girls liked it when you agree with the, right?

"I'm not planning to, but I'm kind of shocked he asked in the first place. Does she have an issue with people not treating her like a friend or something?" he asked, confused. "I'm good at running, Maeko-chan. Thanks. I still can't take a hit like you can."

"I guess she wants to be thought of as a friend, yeah." Maeko said, nodding. "Well, ideally being able to take hits wouldn't matter that much anyway. You just need to be careful."

Kanaye nodded. "True enough." he said. "Well, yeah, but it's still something I can't do. There are any things I can't do that you can, but...still."

Upon arriving at the restaurant, he opened the door and bowed. "After you, Mademoiselle Maeko-chan!" Kanaye's pronunciation was getting better, but he was still way off.

Maeko didn't know enough french to realize the pronunciation was off.

She also didn't know enough french to realize that was actually french. More accustommed than most to having to work out what strange words meant, she decided to guess from context. She decided it meant something alng the lines of 'go inside'. She did so, smiling. "Thank you!"

Kanaye smiled in response. She was so cute~! I want to take her home with me! he thought, but didn't, because kidnapping is wrong. Instead, he walked in behind her. "I'm glad to help, Maeko-chan."

Looking around, he gestured to the seats. "Where do you want to sit, Maeko-chan?" he asked happily.

"Huh? Um, anywhere's fine!" Maeko said, looking around. She took Kanaye's hand again and squeezed it, smiling.

"How have you found the dorms? They must be different from being at home." She said, finally thinking of something to talk about.

Kanaye pretty much melted in Maeko's hand at that point. He led them to a secluded corner spot, but it still had a window seat. "This fine, Maeko-chan?" he asked, sitting down.

Kanaye nodded. "Oh, very much so. People don't mind it when you drink so long as you don't do anything stupid, and you have to clean up after yourself. It's quite nice. How do you like the dorms in comparison to your house?" he asked, smiling.

Maeko nodded and sat opposite Kanaye. "It's nice!"

Maeko gave this some thought. "I like it there a lot. It's a lot louder, for sure. There's more space, too. And no elevators."

Kanaye nodded. "I knew about the silence thing, which sucks, by the way, but...You live in an apartment, or something?" he asked, trying not to sound like he pities her.

As the waiter came over, he smiled. "Get whatever you like, Maeko-chan. I'll pay."

"Yeah. It was, um-" Maeko tried to find words to describe her home that wouldn't sound completely pitiful, more concious of the power difference between the two of them than before. "-very well soundproofed! And high up. And... not really built for a family."

"It's fine, I can pay for myself!" She almost sounded afraid for a second but didn't stop smiling.

Kanaye laughed, completely going with the explanation. He WONDERED why she used such odd words, but didn't want to offend her. "Yeah, I can see how that can be a problem. Are there stairs, or is it just an elevator?" he asked happily.

Kanaye blinked. "I know you CAN, Maeko-chan, but you're paying for your dorm and you have two jobs anyway. If one good thing comes from being rich without doing anything, it's paying for those less fortunate. Let me do it."

"There's stairs. I havn't used the elevator since I was a kid."

Maeko almost relented and accepted, not wanting to cause offense overtaking not wanting to owe Kanaye any more than she already did. But then she managed to take great offense to the term 'less fortunate'.

"Please." She said, still trying to be polite. "Misa-chan's paying her own rent now so I don't need to save quite as much. It'll be fine."
