Who: Maeko, Kanaye
What: idk. Talking, I guess.
Where: Nanakamado
When: Just as clubs are finishing.
Why: wanted threads.

Maeko, proper and mature class rep of 2B, stuck her tongue out at Gendou's back as he walked off. It was her totally effective way of getting the last word in thier arguements. Student council meeting done, she unwrapped the anpan she'd been too busy to eat at lunch and wisely decided to eat it and run at the same time.

Some choking later, she arrived at the playing field with half the anpan (and most of a hurriedly bought 'oh no, I can't breathe! drink!' bottle of bromonade) in hand. She wasn't sure it was entirely normal to cheer when it was just practice and she just waved when she got close enough to tell which of the players was Kanaye.

"Yeah. It was, um-" Maeko tried to find words to describe her home that wouldn't sound completely pitiful, more concious of the power difference between the two of them than before. "-very well soundproofed! And high up. And... not really built for a family."

"It's fine, I can pay for myself!" She almost sounded afraid for a second but didn't stop smiling.

Kanaye laughed, completely going with the explanation. He WONDERED why she used such odd words, but didn't want to offend her. "Yeah, I can see how that can be a problem. Are there stairs, or is it just an elevator?" he asked happily.

Kanaye blinked. "I know you CAN, Maeko-chan, but you're paying for your dorm and you have two jobs anyway. If one good thing comes from being rich without doing anything, it's paying for those less fortunate. Let me do it."

"There's stairs. I havn't used the elevator since I was a kid."

Maeko almost relented and accepted, not wanting to cause offense overtaking not wanting to owe Kanaye any more than she already did. But then she managed to take great offense to the term 'less fortunate'.

"Please." She said, still trying to be polite. "Misa-chan's paying her own rent now so I don't need to save quite as much. It'll be fine."

Kanaye smiled and nodded. "Good. You afraid of them?" he asked softly.

Kanaye was confused. Don't girls like it when you give them stuff for free? "Um, sure, but why? I have more then enough for the both of us, Maeko-chan."

"Of course not!" Maeko said a little too quickly. "The stairs was just better excersise."

"It's just important to me." Maeko said, tugging at her fringe. "I mean, I'm very grateful anyway but- it's just important."

"Exercise is very important!" Kanaye remarked, while whispering "If you ARE afraid, don't worry about it Maeko-chan. We all have our fears. I don't care."

Kanaye nodded slowly. "If you insist, Maeko-chan." He wondered why, but didn't bother to ask. "What shall you have, then?" he asked, smiling.

Maeko nodded. The more afraid she was of something, the less likely she was to admit that she was afraid.

Now that she had managed to win that with minimal conflict, Maeko decided not to think about that too hard. "Anpan! For sure!"

She tried to come up with another conversation topic. "How are the soccer team doing so far this year? After Aomori-sensei..."

Kanaye smiled. "I'll be having some of that as well, then. I've never tried it, so..." he said, shrugging.

Kanaye tapped his feet. "Oh, not too bad, not too great. The only one that really cares is Suzume...and, I guess me. But paradise and you are more important then that, so..." he shrugged again.

"You never had anpan? But it's so good-" Maeko once again launched into a monolouge about the many vitues of anpan.

She stopped to inhale after a while. "Oh, sorry!"

"Oh. I guess at least people were still at practice...but paradise does take priority."

Kanaye chuckled. "Don't worry about it, Maeko-chan. You're cute when you're talking about something you like. It definitely has to taste good, if you like it so much." he said, leaning back and stretching.

Kanaye yawned. "Yeah, it's a bit of a shock. I mean, the coach dies, and we get a completely incompetent new one. I'm more surprised people still show up."

Maeko nodded enthuseastically. "It really does!"

She calmed down a little, partly out of respect for Aomori-sensei but mostly because soccer wasn't anywhere close to as interesting as anpan. "I can imagine. Is Ito-sensei still trying to make it all...wrestle-y?"
