Something to talk about?
Who: Nayuki, Misaki and OPEN
What: Delivery and Flowers
Where: Hanakotoba Flower Shop
When: After School
Why: Nayuki has to deliver something for the flower shop. It's a good excuse as any to visit Misaki, right?

Nayuki wasn't sure, but he was beginning to suspect that his employers were playing favourites. "Or maybe they're just testing the new guy?" For whatever reason it truly was, he felt somewhat cheated on today's workload. Needing only to deliver one ream of promotional flyers and Official Recept Pads, he felt rather cheated. He shook his head as he found himself nearing his destination, it wasn't his place to complain about it. He was getting paid for the job, regardless. Parking his bicycle behind the utility post in font of the flower shop, he locks it in place and unstraps his bag. He takes a few moments to take his crash helmet off and fix his hair while looking at his bike's side-mirror. "Rats... they're starting to curl again. I'll have to visit the barber shop in the weekend."

With everything set, he enters the flower shop. As usual, there was nobody manning the register. The soothing mix of fragrance welcomed him. "It'll never get old." Carefully placing the parcel on the countertop, he reaches for the electronic buzzer and gives it a gentle tap. The room suddenly comes alive with the sound of chirping birds. He chuckles as he realizes that the shop owner had changed the sound-byte for the doorbell yet again. In each of the times he's delivered a package to the shop, the buzzer never had the same sound. He began to wonder just how anyone would be able to tell if there was a customer here. While waiting for the recipient's arrival, Nayuki decided to take a good look at the new batch of flowers for sale.

"You'll be in a doctors care if you're not careful where he bites," Hikarus said as he came from the back room wiping his hands from dealing with some wet sea weed. He smiled brightly at Nayuki adn Misaki.

"So you're from Nagano? Hummm, can't say I've been what's it like there?" Hikaru asked letting them in the back. Misaki shot her brother a look that said 'Be nice' and he just smiled.

Nayuki chuckles and releases his hand from the pug's jaws before bowing formally to Misaki's older brother and trying to match his smile. "It's alright. Even if little Trowler here's not completely immunized, he's just giving out mild bites." He gives the dog another scruffle and follows Misaki inside. "Well... for one thing, it's less windy over at Nagano as the city does not face the ocean as Iburi does. Another thing is how the whole place in general is slowly being developed and re-developed from being centered around Temples and Castles..." He shrugs and brings out his mobile phone, "...into Electronics and Arts Industries." He shook his head as he realized just how much of what he said was a force of habit during his corporate grooming days. He decides to focus his attention to Hikaru, and continues. "It used to flood a lot before when rains would seemingly not end. But with the new water systems implemented under the very streets of Nagano, such are often avertend." He snaps his fingers, as if remembering something worth mentioning. "Oh. You'd love to pay a visit to the Zenkou-Ji. The way the flowers in the Temple grounds are arranged is captivating."

"He got his shots just the other day," Misaki explained as she set him down on the floor. "It sounds amazing. I'd love to see such a place some time, and it's true that we get a lot of wind."

"My fiance and I are going to the Zenkou-ji during our honeymoon," Hikaru explained as he motioned for Nayuki to sit. "But tell me something. You sound like you know a lot about it's business history. Who are you parents?"

Foot-In-Mouth Disease

"I could take you all there for a vacation in the future, if you like." He beams a smile to Misaki, "I'll just have to pester Sumi if we could crash at their guesthouse. That one's as close as you can legally get to the Zenkou-Ji." If Nayuki could punch himself in the face right now without looking strange, he would have done so. Just like the first stumble he did with the detective on his first month in town, he got careless again. And now, Aoi Hikaru displays just how sharp he can be from behind his kingdom of flowers. Nayuki had to think fast and act natural. He did not want to lose it all now that he's settled in. "My parents?" His eyes begin to wander after meeting Hikaru's gaze.

"Well... My father's Tonbo Hazumu and my mother's Ikeda Yasuna." Nayuki recited his cover details. "They used to work for a big electronics corporation. They used to bring me along to some of the places that their work takes them. I even found myself attending some functions with them." He replied in a casual manner, as those points were true. "But they've recently retired from all that... And they're just rolling money into stocks and investments." That last part, however, was a complete lie. It didn't sit too well with him, but it was necessary for him to keep living in Iburi.

"Hold it, you're friend has a guest house?" Misaki looked excited. "That sounds amazing. What's it like?"

Hikaru raised an eyebrow,"So why send their son all the way out here? Wouldn't it have been easier to have you go to a private school in Nagano? And for that matter, why are you working if your family is that well off?"

"Uh-huh" Nayuki nodded as he finally took a seat between Misaki and Hikaru. "Sumi used to take the Student Council for retreats there. But I'm sure we can use that place if we let her know early enough."

He then holds his hands up to Hikaru, grinning sheepishly. "Ah. That part it's entirely my fault. Where do I start..." He then claps his hands together, "You see, my folks thought that if they exposed me early to their line of work, that I'd sooner or later develop an ambition for it. They were partly right. I've been doing well with arithmetic and sciences, but mostly because I enjoy making them smile. When they retired, though..." He corrected his posture, sitting upright to prevent himself from leaning onto the table. "Well, my drive to pursue their same career went with it."

He scratches the back of his head, chuckling, "It sounds silly, doesn't it? Anyway, getting somewhat to the point. My folks didn't know that the company they used to work for was headhunting me as early as middleschool. They sponsored some programs and competitions to select the best possible students they can rear to hire when they graduate. I was unfortunately become a constant blip on their radar." Nayuki faced Misaki and tilts his head, "Sumi was also included." He then turned his attention to the flowers on the table, reaching out to gently touch the petals. "I told my parents about that and how it was interfering with my intentions of finding my own way." He let out a sigh, resisting the urge to fall silent from the flood of memories. "Thankfully, they were very understanding and were quick to my defense. They told me that, as much as they wanted to see me in their line of work in the future... They believe I'm very capable of choosing my own path."

Nayuki lets go of the flowers and gives his attention back to Hikaru. "My folks helped me get out of that company's reach by sending me to where they have very little influence." He points to the floor. "That's how I found my way here in Iburi. I got an apartment of my own and enrolled into Nanakamado. Even if my family's well-off, I didn't not want to burn through their fortunes just because of this. So, I told them that I'd work for my living expenses. It took a while to convince them to allow me that luxury, too." He then beats a fist to his chest, "So, here I am, now."

Hikaru sat back and took in what he was saying. So did Misaki but for very differnt reasons. Her ears perked up at the comment about math and science and there was a visible twich in her body as if she was just stuck with a rather sharp needle. Her brother noted this and tapped the table before her, then reached under and squeezed her hand. Which she quickly squeezed back.

"It doesn't sound silly at all," Misaki said softly as she listened and blinked, "You're very lucky that your parents are so understanding about that. Some parents can't get it in their head that sometimes what they want to do isn't really what you want to do. And like you said you wanted them to smile."

Hikaru paused and looked concerned, "Did your family report this company? It seems to me that they're takeng unfair advantage of schools and the children there."

Misaki blinked, "But how do you do it? It's hard to live with another person to make ends meet, let alone live on your own."

[[OOC: I found my notepad file. Fake mother's name is NOT Ikeda Yasuna, but in fact Ikoma Yasuna. Sorry for the confusion. The Landlady was also written wrong T_T She's Isawa Anoushka]]

Nayuki held his hands up to Hikaru and shrugs. "As far as the city and education board is concerned, the company's just upholding their Enrollment-to-Employment system. They've got so much influence in Nagano that it's surprising they haven't abused it yet." Either both of the Aoi siblings did not notice him leaving out the name of the company all this time or they just didn't bother to find out, he's thankful either way. He then turned his attention back to Misaki, putting his hands back on his lap. "Living alone, I was really expecting the worse conditions. I was even considering a second part-time job to make ends meet. But, surprisingly..." He pulls out his wallet, brings out his work ID, and gently places it on the table for the Aoi siblings to scrutinize. "Well... You're both aware of my current employment, right? They have a strangely above-average payroll, and they even have incentives for students. The harder the workload, the higher the rate." He shrugs again, "It's not really in my place to question their accounting, but it's due to them that I'm managing to get by." He pulls out an electronic keycard and sets it down next to his work ID, it has a black magnetic stripe and the numbers 201 embossed onto it.. "My folks helped pay for the Apartment at South District. So, for all intents and purposes, I now own a unit in Karaba Apartments. And all I have to worry about are the utility bills and groceries. The landlady there was also kind enough to accept appointment as my legal guardian here in Iburi."

Nayuki goes back to staring at the flowers on the table. He decided to blurt out everything he was allowed to tell them in one go to cover the most basic questions. It would be bad if he slipped one of these days and provide something from his past. "As for Nanakamado Escalator School... My transfer there was not without conditions. I have to maintain a high average for my marks, or risk losing admission for next year." He smiles fondly to Misaki, "Thanks to you, I managed to adjust well enough to catch up on the current curriculum." He then takes a deep breath and leans back on his seat. "And that's my life in a nutshell. I hope I didn't bore you two with it and inadvertently make you lose your appetites."

Misaki shook her head and blushed slightly, "No you didn't. But if you really feel that this is odd, why haven't you gone to the police about your questions about the company."

"Well they have been in business for a few years now," Hikaru pointed out. "Your parents help pay for your apartment? That's very kind of them, and very kind of your landlady." He wached Nayuki's actions towards Misaki and sat back.

"Now, I would suspect you're hungry so I'll go get the food. Take a break and relax. Okay." Hikaru said and got up. "Just don't flirt too much with my sister."

W - Wha!?

"F - flir--- But I..." Nayuki froze where he sat, blood rushing to his cheeks. He turns after Hikaru, bleating, "I - It's nothing like that!" In which he realized that Misaki might misunderstand, so he turns his attention to her. "I mean, you're a really wonderful girl, Aoi-san, but I wasn't planning on anything like that." He then facepalmed as he thought what he just said might have gone across wrong. "I mean, it's not that I don't like you. But it's the kind of like that makes me want to be there for you and stuff like that. And not the like kind of like." His hands were waving everywhere as he tried to explain himself to Misaki in panic. "I mean... You're just too precious a friend for me to... I mean... If things went differently, I might've fallen for you, but..."

Just when it appears that Nayuki's about to break, he quickly grabs the wrapper of the sweets box he brought in and immediately put it over his head... which is directly followed by him gently, but repeatedly banging his now concealed face on the table. "Good job, Nayuki... Where did all the etiquette go?" He thought to himself, as he started imagining his best friend rolling on the floor laughing at his folly had she actually been present to witness the whole thing.

Misaki watched him for a moment, then started to giggle and covered her mouth some, "pfffft. Na-Nayuki-sempai...he's just teasing. It's what he does to every boy that comes into the shop. There's nothing to worry about."

She blushed deeply at part of his comment and took a sweet, "Um...thank you for the candy and the compliments then."

Oh, whew...

"Oh... He's just... joking." Nayuki stopped tapping his forehead against the table and turned to face Misaki's general direction. The bag over his head conceals his relieved expression, but he can be seen visibly sighing to the same effect. Clearing his throat, he slowly takes the bag off to reveal a somber look. "You have a good brother, Aoi-san." He looks over towards the kitchen, "I don't have any siblings, so I don't really know how it's like." He stares at the sweetcakes a bit, shrugging. "Well... Sumi's the closest I've got for a sibling. But I'm sure you can tell the difference."

Nayuki starts idly folding the paperbag into a crude origami turtle. "I meant what I said earlier, Aoi-san. I'm really glad that I met you." He does the finishing touches to the origami turtle and presents it to Misaki. "I don't feel so alienated outside of campus, anymore. I'm not as homesick, but I do keep in touch with my auntie and friends. I've told them about you and the flower shop. Sumi even jokes that I've grown dependent on you." He meets Misaki's gaze for a moment before focusing his attention back to the flowers on the table. "And you know what? ...She's probably right."

Nayuki shakes his head and takes a deeb breath. "I do hope things work out for you and your precious one, Aoi-san. And... as creepy as it may sound... coming from the new guy. I hope I can become someone you can count on." He slowly pushes himself off the table and stands, then bows to her. "Maybe one of these days, you can tell me the story behind your pink hair and contact lenses?" He stopped himself short of saying "And perhaps we can give you a reason to need them no longer." He turns to face the kitchen. "Maybe I should go and help your brother?" And with that, he turns to face the direction of where the older Aoi-san disappeared to.

"What are you doing, Yuuki?" The voice from the back of his head fumed. "Your life's in shambles. You're trying to live a new one. And you think you've got the time to meddle with someone else's problems?!" Mumbling under his breath, he replied. "Yes... If I can help her. Then perhaps there's hope for me yet."

"Yes he's just joking," Misaki smiled though that wasn't the complete truth. She knew that Hikaru wouldn't just joke about that unless he believe there was some truth behind it. But she wasn't about to tell Nayuki that. Seeing him relax she felt a bit better and looked at the table top playing with the plate. "Sometimes having siblings is great, other times it's not so much. Maeko-chan is more of a sister to me then my own older sisters are, which is saying something. But I know what you mean though, friends are different then family."

Misaki flushed when he met her eye and was glad when he looked away. "I...your welcome, but I'm not someone who you should be dependent on Sempai. I'm not strong, I tend to run away when things get scary, and I cry...a lot. It's not a good thing to be dependent on someone whos so...so...weak in a way."

She reached up and grabbed him by the arm, "Tonbo-sempai..."Misaki paused, she didn't want him to wander off just yet, "Tell...Tell me more about Sumi Chan?"
