Who: Kozue and LOTS OF OTHERS?
Where: That ramen shop in Noodle Alley that doesn't card for beer.
What: Fun times without having your ID checked.
When: An evening, before the Sunday of Maeko's dungeon.
Why: Jun told me to.

At least two of the waitresses knew her by sight, which, Kozue reflected, was probably a bad sign.

One of them had even asked her where her date was. "I'm just here for noodles" wasn't a very convincing answer; especially since she'd also come for the alcohol. Now she was sitting on a stool at the bar, her feet dangling (of course they didn't hit the floor, nor come close at all), enjoying a veggie noodle bowl and a very large beer. It had seemed like a good idea initially—food not from the dorm kitchen, and a drink was really called for after the week's events, and maybe there'd be a cute boy. Now? It was just kind of pitiful-seeming, getting food alone, and she was beginning to suspect that the beer was not nearly as low calorie as was advertised.

The cute boy front was also, sadly, a disappointment thus far. But she was more optimistic about that than about the calorie problem; boys could walk into bars, but calories probably couldn't walk out of drinks. At least, she didn't think they could…

Kanaye sighed. Misaki's interlude had helped him in some ways, but it had hurt him in others. One of those ways it hurt him was that the maids had discovered his activities, and they alerted his parents. They were more irritated by the fact it was THEIR sake that they were drinking then the fact he was drinking in the first place, and told him to stop stealing their stuff and to get his own. They had changed the lock on the wine cabinet as well, so he nowhere else to go. He had heard of this place in Noodle Alley that didn't ID people from one of the people he talks to at school, and decided to go there.

Walking through, he was glad at what he had saw. He had expected it to be some sort of hive of scum and villainy. Now, it was more like a ramen shop with a slightly inattentive owner. He smiled as he looked around, glad he wasn't going to be jumped, when he noticed Kozue. Now was probably a good time to talk to her, he thought. "Yo, Kozue-san. How are you today?" Kanaye asked as he walked over. He ordered some noodles and a beer from the bartender, who nodded and went to get what he had asked for. "Here for the beer?" he asked cheerfully.

Kozue glanced up, her glass halfway to her lips. Well, that answered that question, at least; she lowered it slowly, and nodded. "Hey, sempai. Well. The noodles, too," she responded, although considering how much of her beer was gone, versus how much of her noodle bowl was gone? Her explanation wasn't particularly convincing. "You?"

Well, she had been wishing for cute boys—Kanaye was certainly among the pick of the litter, but really? He was also infatuated with Maeko and kind of an emotionally imbalanced man-child. (Kozue reflected that she actually knew too many of those; maybe it was something about being a Persona User, and Kanaye with his claims of 'we're all crazy' was on to something.) And she was so not going there.

But, she reflected, as he ordered at the bar next to her, at least she'd have someone to talk to for a while, instead of amusing herself staring at the doorway.

Three's a crowd...

"I don't think I'll make it back home in one piece."

It was a tiring night for Nayuki. His legs were heavy, his rear end had gone numb and his stomach kept reminding him that it was way past dinner time. Being one of the very few bicycle couriers able to be dispatched by the Toturi Publishing Firm, his area or responsibility almost encompasses a fourth of Iburi's entire region... And tonight, a visit to the docks was something he wasn't expecting to do. Now, on his way home, a nice meal and a good bath were the only things in his mind that kept him going. Seeing a familiar zone up ahead, he decided to take his respite in one of the many restaurants comprising the city's famous Noodle Alley.

He didn't bring any cash with him today, so he kept on pedaling until he found one shop that displayed a welcoming marker of an Electronic-Pass. Dismounting at the side of the said restaurant, he did a few hops and leg stretches before chaining his bike onto one of the available parking spaces. "Lucky~~" He chirped to nobody in particular as he took off his windbreaker and walked in. Nayuki was instantly greeted by the available staff and found himself seated at the long counter. Returning their smiles, he looked up at the list and pointed to one of the big-bowls in the display. "I'll have the Gomoku Soba combo, please." He quickly snatched the mobile phone from his belt bag, pressed a few keys and handed it to one of the waitresses. "I'd like to pay by Mobile-Wallet, too, if that's alright."

With his order taken, and his mobile phone whisked off for electronic confirmation at the register, Nayuki decided to take a good look at the restaurant's interior. The Semi-Circle seating by the walls made it look like it was originally designed as a family restaurant. But the addition of the barstools and the long counter he was seated at clearly meant otherwise. This was confirmed for him when he found stacked crates of Sochu and Sake being carted in by someone who he suspected to by the owner of the establishment. "At least nobody's smoking here." He thought to himself. Tobacco wasn't his forte, and that fact is still true to date. His appetite would've been destroyed, even if he was famished.

And then he spotted a slightly-familiar face. The tall, blonde young man walked past him in a confident manner and approached a gloomy young lady with long golden locks a few seats away from where Nayuki sat. He would have mistaken the two for fashion models had he not overheard the young man's voice as he greeted the lady. "Oho~ If it isn't one of the sempais at gym class?" He leaned back against the counter and quietly observed the exchange from the corner of his eye while he waited for his meal.

But four's a party~

Things had not been going well for Yoshimi as of late. First, there was the incident with Misaki and the PA, then the investigation team had torn itself apart, and then there'd been the unmitigated disaster with the angels. All in all, it felt like an excellent time to start drowning her sorrows, but she hadn't been able to find a party worth crashing.

Enter her favorite ramen shop. She skulked in, feeling tired and hungry and more than a little antisocial for once, but did her level best to acknowledge her classmates as she made her way down to the far end of the bar to place her order.

"H-hello, Kondo-san. Hello, Satou-senpai. Hello, er, other senpai?" She blinked. Weren't the boys a little goody-goody to be hanging out in this particular shop? Then again, with the way things were going lately...

"...everyone having a rough week?"

Misaki slowly walked along the quiet streets of Noodle Alley, she was nervous and couldn't sleep. She didn't feel right sleeping in their room, every night had been a struggle since Maeko-chan had gone missing, and her dreams were plagued by fights, strange horrible angels from Serphium Garden, and images of faces of people hurt by everything. The most frequent were that of Keiichi-sempai who looked blue and dishartened at what he had done to the group, and Kanaye-sempai, who's face of anguish had left a very deep impression on Misaki. But the one that haunted and terrified her the most was the smiling Maeko-chan the day she locked the room. The innocent kind face that hid a revolting ideal of what Misaki was.

I was a bird in a cage to her, wasn't I? All this time... Misaki thought dejectedly. She wanted to talk to Maeko, know that it wasn't true. That Maeko saw her more then just a bird she had to keep caged and protected. It...made her sad just thinking about it.

Here spirits were slightly raised at the welcoming noise from inside a resturant, and she peeked in. There were four people that she reconginzed sitting there. Yoshimi-chan with her dark braids had just walked up to the bar and she was dressed in jeans, which actually suited her very well. Misaki made a mental note of it, since she'd been using images of the group as models for some of her drawings. Yoshimi was talking to Kozue-chan, which made Misaki hesitate. It wasn't that she was angry with Kozue, she just didn't understand why the girl had disregarded her sempai like that. Didn't she know how much she had hurt Keiichi-san. Next to her was Kanaye-sempai, which made Misaki swallow some. She didn't want to become a pest to him and glanced over at the last person there, Nayuki-sempai who was in uniform.

Walking over to the group, she paused and smiled. "Ah Good evening everyone, Kozue-chan, Kanaye-sempai, Yoshimi-chan, and Evening to you too Tonbo-sempai. I didn't know you knew the others. Um...can I ask why you're all here?"

And suddenly half her class was here. Or, at least, it felt like it. Kozue idly wondered how the owner of this place really felt about serving alcohol to fifteen-year-old girls, but since she was benefiting, she wasn't going to ponder it too closely.

First, Yoshimi wandered in, looking a little surprised; Kozue had nodded to her question without actually bothering to respond (of course it was a rough week), and had just peered over at the so-called other-sempai, when Misaki entered. Kozue raised her hand a little to wave. She quirked her head slightly at Misaki's question, though: "Oh. We're… well, we're not here on purpose together, I think we all ran into each other." She'd contemplated a flip answer: the beer, Misaki-chan, but had discarded it after a moment's thought.

Kanaye was about to respond to Kozue when Nayuki walked in. Kanaye was momentarily distracted from his response, long enough for Yoshimi to walk in. And when he went to say hello to her, Misaki, of all people, had walked in. Kanaye cursed. Obviously, whatever God existed had obviously decided he wasn't going to get a drink. "Allo, Misaki-chan, Yoshimi-san, Nayuki-san! How are all of you today?" he asked, smiling. "I'm here to get drunk, mainly. Yes, Misaki-chan, I'm aware, and no, Misaki-chan, I don't care." he stated as his order came in. He smiled, paid and tipped the waiter, and then starting eating. It was tasty.

"Oh, I see, well I just wanted to know," Misaki sat down next to Nayuki and looked over the list of food then chose a non alcholic drink and a small bowl of ramen. She raised her eyebrow at Kanaye's comment.

"Um...Sempai, what was the question?"

How in the----

2009-10-20 06:18 am UTC (link)
Nayuki sat upright in surprise. He wasn't sure if he was thinking out loud or if the people he was now with were mind-readers. His thoughts leaned towards the former as he was definitely not drunk enough to even consider the latter. He was hoping to just surrender to his impending ramen stupor, but with the arrival of more people from Nanakamado High, he wasn't sure if it was possible now.

"Ah, hello, everyone." His legs were already numb, but he summoned enough energy to stand and smile in greeting. "Quite the coincidence running into you all here." He wasn't really quick to catch on, but Nayuki wasn't too tired to notice the slight hesitation coming from his pink-haired underclassman. In response to Misaki's initial inquiry, he just shrugged and grinned. "I just finished dopping off three dockets. I didn't expect the trips to be really far, so I wasn't counting on having my dinner here." He thumbs over to the menu up on display. "They do have some decent selections here, though I haven't personally tried the local brew." He quickly holds his hands up in surrender to Kanaye, "It's alright, sempai. What you do outside campus is no business of mine. Just don't let any of our professors catch you."

As Misaki took a seat next to him, he leaned over and whispered to her, "I'm not sure what's been going on lately, but these past days couldn't have been good for you." She was all-smiles right now, but he was sure it was just to keep up appearances. Nayuki new that much, as he had been the instigator of such on many occasions. The distress that he could hear behind the young girl's P.A. message was undeniable. "If you need someone to help you or just someone to talk to, Aoi-san, I'm right here."

With that, he turned his attention towards Yoshimi, nodding his greeting and offering her a seat next to Misaki. "Ah, hello, there. I've only seen you at gym class before, so we haven't properly been introduced. I'm Tonbo Nayuki of Class 2-B. Transferred into Nanakamado a couple of months ago. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Misaki paused when he whispered that in her ear and looked down. What could she say, her best friend was turned into an evil shadow that needed to be rescued after it locked her in her room? But still she nodded slowly and smiled some at Nayuki.

"I...thank you sempai." she said softly and took up her tea sipping it slowly and smiled some.

"Cheers," Kozue said to Kanaye, glad that at least someone else was drinking; besides, that was an excellent excuse to take another long drink from her own beer, and with school mates and team mates here, well, she could use it. And Tonbo-sempai was right—they did have a good selection.

"Iburi is the best for beer," Kozue said, turning to the transfer student and nodding; "You need to try it if you haven't." A pause, as she looked at her glass (less than half full, already? Darn) and mentally shrugged. If it was high calorie, well, she might as well have a whole bunch and then just exercise like mad tomorrow. "In fact, I'll buy everyone's next round, since we all met up here."

If that's the case...

When the waitress returned with his combo meal, Nayuki quickly pointed out the drink that Kozue held in her hand. "I'll have what she's having." He then took a good look at his current company and shrugged. "Better yet, please tell the cashier to hold onto my phone for a while. I'd like to order the same drink for everyone here." He watched the waitress nod and walk away to till on their drinks, and he wondered what just brought him to actually do that. He quickly turned his attention back to Kozue and grinned apologetically, "Uhm... I'm sorry to have hijacked your offer like that. It's just that... I felt like doing this... being the new guy in town, I've still yet to properly meet some of you even if I see you all in campus." He quickly clasped his palms together and bowed his head to everyone. "I hope I wasn't being too hasty... or rude... But, please allow me to treat you all for this night's dinner."

Nayuki wasn't sure if he could blame fatigue for his sudden strange behaviour, but he was definitely sure that he shouldn't pass up this opportunity to get to know more people. Underage Drinking wasn't exactly part of his plans, but he's had his share of liquor back in his days at the Matsu Compound. Champagnes, Vintage Wines... and even hard drinks at times. His Uncle was relentless at grooming him for the role. I guess that's one thing I'll have to thank him for. Thought, it made him a bit worried that he might have just ruined his image in front of the first-years. Especially the pink-haired sunshine sitting next to him.

Quickly propping himself back up, he looked at Yoshimi and Misaki, "Uhm... You two COULD order something else to drink, if you're not looking to be introduced to alcohol just yet." He could feel his inner self facepalming at this point. "Just let the staff know so they can replace the order." He takes hold of the soda can that came with his combo meal and raises it to the four other Nanakamado students at the counter while he stutters on his toast. "To this coincidental encounter... may we enjoy each others' company... a - and not end up making fools of ourselves later." He added the last phrase partly as a lame joke and partly as a prayer, and waited for the rest... wondering how they'd respond to his boisterous act.

Misaki raised her eyebrows at hearing the offere from Kozue and tried to beg off, "No, no it's okay. I really don't..." But then Nayuki started off on his "I'll buy drinks for everyone' act and she was stuck. She couldn't exactly say no to him, he was a nice person and new to town, soo...she humbly bowed her head some and gave a consencial nod.

It was only when he started to babble about other drinks that she loosened up some. She'd had small amounts of wine at her mother's cocktail parties. Misaki though didn't like beer. There was just something about the taste that bothered her pallet, so she quickly reordered a virgin strawberry daquri instead.

When Nayuki raised his glass and started his toast she stared at him, then ducked her head down and started to giggle and laugh. Her giggles were an infections type of sweet and bubbly, and it felt good to let off the tension she had been feeling in her chest since the inccident. "Pfffh, Sempai...that..." *giggle* "I...I'm sorry but...that toast..." she wiped off her eyes.

Then quickly raised the tea glass she already had and said in a calm voice, like she had to at the parties, "To us, may we long prosper after everything is over, said and done. To those with us here and those that are not, may we meet again soon, and may we always believe in the bonds we are making, both here tonight and every day at school. Kampai!"

Kozue laughed at Kanaye's response, pleased that she didn't have to raise much the same concern. Seriously, why would you bother drinking if if wasn't to get drunk? Speaking of that, she cast a sideways glance at Misaki's frou-frou, alcohol-less drink. Should she have been surprised? 'Virgin', even? No, probably not. And think of all the calories.

"Don't worry too much about it, Tonbo-sempai," she said, looking back to the treat-you-for-a-round hijacker. She clearly wasn't upset, though—after all, thanks to him, she was eating and drinking free all night. "I'll still cover one round, but not this one—I offered, after all, and it wouldn't do to go back on it."

Oh, the beauty of pretending to be more generous than you actually were, for appearance sake. In truth, Kozue had no problem whatsoever with not paying, but she had to try and insist on at least covering what she'd offered.

"And the round after that is on me!" Yoshimi offered, having downed two-thirds of her glass in just a few minutes. Her initial plan had been to sulk in the corner and get drunk, but she was starting to feel a little buzzed, and a buzzed Yoshi was a happy, social Yoshi. At least for the first hour or so.

"Nice to meet you, Tonbo-senpai!" She clearly meant it, too, making a poorly-balanced attempt to high five the second year.

Down Down Down Down Down...

*Klink* *Klink* came the sound of the evening gathering as they all came in on Misaki's toast. Nayuki was grateful to her for catching on his social folly. The upperclassman went further in alleviating his worries by making the gesture look enjoyable. "...part of the fun, huh?"

He nods in approval to Miss Goldenlocks, quietly smiling as her name escapes him, while she proposes to take the next round. Nayuki accepted his first pint of Iburi's beer and swirled it a bit before spending the next few seconds to completely gulp it down in one go. It didn't matter to him anymore how he was going to go home after tonight, his legs were already hurting from the long bike trips he did for his part-time job. Deciding to cut loose and just relaxing with good company was all that mattered now. As he set the empty glass on the counter, he realized that the brew was surprisingly light.

Turning his attention to the twin-braided first-year, he nods in response and quickly notices her attempt for a high-five gesture. She was in good spirits that he didn't want to kill the moment. And so, he thought of meeting the girl's gesture halfway by stepping off his seat to reach for a Hi-5 contact. Nayuki just wasn't expecting his legs to give way at that moment. And thus, his attempt to reciprocate the High-Five ended up as a collision course towards Yoshimi. "Gaaah! Not good, not good, not good!" In that split-second, he hoped he had enough energy to redirect his fall toward the floor instead.

"KYAAA~" As Nayuki moved out of the way, Yoshimi overshot her target and went crashing heels over head towards the floor. Luckily, years spent tripping over anything and everything in her path had left her with catlike damage-avoidance reflexes, and she landed dazed but uninjured.

"I'm okay!" she assured, rotating her wrists a few times to make sure that they weren't sprained. "And I am so sorry, Tonbo-senpai, I didn't think that was going to happen!" She got up and dusted herself off, glad that she'd decided not to wear a skirt.

Kozue jolted back, startled, as Yoshimi and Nayuki collectively tumbled down like complete drunkards. That was just ridiculous. For a moment, she had the desire to just drop her face into her palms and sigh. They hadn't even had anything—well, Tonbo had just chugged one, but it could hardly have taken effect that quickly.

And if the injury question was dealt with, it was time for the waste/mess question: "Did either of you spill anything?" She asked, looking around carefully, before taking another long swig of her own new beer. Keeping up was important, after all.

Nayuki let out an anguished laughter as he remained face down on the floor. He could feel the eyes of the entire room burning on his back and, right now, there was nothing he could do about it. "I - I'm alright. I'm okay! Sorry about that." He carefully propped himself up with his arms, but couldn't get up completely on account of his legs not responding to him. "Is anyone hurt? Goodness, I hope not." Hanging onto the base of the barstools, he slowly pulled himself up in a standing posture with his knees completely straight. He took a good look at Yoshimi and Misaki and started bowing apologetically. "I'm really sorry about that, I didn't think my legs would be THAT tired. I didn't hut either of you, did I?"

The kind restaurant staff supported him as he made his way back to his own seat, the large bown of gomoku ramen ready for consumption. In a hopeless attempt to divert attention, he points to the large bowl, "Hey, check it out? Now is THIS a big bang for your buck, or isn't it?" He let out a nervous laugh soon after.

Nayuki's comment made Kozue giggle, although less for the noodles and more for the innuendo. What, you didn't hear the innuendo? Because she totally heard the innuendo.

"So that's a good start." As long as it didn't draw undue attention to the fact that a sixteen year old boy was drinking beer and falling all over himself. Hopefully, it wouldn't… Ugh, but if they got busted, the explanations she'd have to give.

To brace herself against that possibility, she took another long sip of her own beer. "So what do you think? And what are you drinking, Misaki-chan?" She turned, peering at the bright, fruity drink when it finally arrived. "That looks kind of weird."

"Well, it's too late for me to avoid embarassing myself. I suppose I don't have to be nervous for the rest of the night, any longer." Nayuki was already starting on his noodles, as he knew that the fastest way to get drunk was to take in alcohol on an empty stomach. And he wasn't exactly ready to fall into a drunken stupor yet. His legs had already given way, but that's due to fatigue. He's perfectly certain that the rest of his body will follow after tonight. He looks at the drink Misaki's holding in her hands as Kozue calls attention to it. He swallows his meal, grins and says, "Give Aoi-san a little bit of slack, I think this is her first time taking any kind of cocktail... even though it's non-alcoholic." He gives Misaki a mischevous wink and returns to his ramen.

He speaks out to Kanaye and Kozue, "So, what do you both recommend for something light?" He gestures with his nose, pointing to the drinks in their hands.

Kanaye quirked an eyebrow at Nayuki and Misaki. A daiquiri? Seriously? He laughed. "Weak. Weakity weakity weak. Seriously, why the hell would you even get light alcohol? Get some of the sake, or even a beer." he said smiling. He took another drink and smiled. "This is good stuff."

"And it's not that heavy, all things considered," Kozue chimed in, "although I think they have something lighter, it's a Z-z-err, a German thing." Whatever it was called. She waved her free hand in a circle slightly wider than she might have otherwise gestured with, and took another long sip of her kind-of-lightish beer.

Oh, crap, she'd be out soon. Whose round was it next. Hers? Had she really been taking sips that large? Now, that wasn't ladylike at all.

She turned to look at Misaki: "So it's a strawberry smoothie, Misaki-chan? I'd think that you'd at least want a little bit of sake in it or something. Do they put sake in daquiris or is it something else?" This, to the general group—maybe to the room at large.
