Current music:Morphine - Have a Lucky Day
Entry tags:kiriko, misaki, reizo, takumi

Who: Reizo, Kiriko, Misaki, Takumi
What:  Reizo's having a very fun day.
Where:  In the back alleyways near school.
When:  Monday evening
Why:  Because everyone hates him.

Reizo pursed his lips and dabbed gingerly at them with a rolled up strip of blood-smattered cloth he’d finished pulling off of the bottom of his shirt. His lip was busted, and his knuckles were torn from having hit so many people in the mouth, but beyond that and a few bruises he was no worse for wear. He sighed and leaned back heavily against the chain link fence the box he was sitting on was positioned against, and surveyed the scene he’d just created. Several other boys were all laying on the ground, most unconscious, but a few were groaning and holding various parts of their beaten bodies. Looking almost unimpressed-- either by the paltry numbers or the lack of real injuries he’d managed to inflict-- he fished a bent cigarette out of his pocket with a bloody hand and tucked it between his lips, lit it, and tipped his head back to stare up at the sky.

He knew the others, the cowards, were a ways off, surveying him from a distance. Would they bother attacking him now that their numbers were lessened? Did they have some sort of ace fighter like he always saw in the movies, just waiting to show up at the end and beat him to a pulp? He decided it didn’t much matter as he stood up, grabbed his school jacket and moseyed off. Every encounter seemed to be getting more vicious and he didn’t feel like waiting around for more morons with bats to show up. Pretty soon they’d be showing up with knives.

He turned a corner, ignoring the sound of rapid footfalls on cement behind him. They stopped a distance away and he knew they were just gathering up their beaten members to properly tuck their tails between their legs and speed off. Something of a smile tugged at his lips as he heard the footfalls again, slower this time and accompanied by a few groans.

It almost amused him. Almost.

His little remark irritated her. What the hell did he know? She opened her mouth to suggest that maybe she'd never be interested in boys, but easily foresaw how that little remark would work against her and thought better of it. Still, if she wanted to talk about being a good little housewife, she'd give her parents a call. By the time she had turned to give him a dirty look, though, he had already gone and rounded on Misaki.

"Maybe you shouldn't call him 'puppy' anymore," she suggested, decidedly cooler than she had been all day as she drifted into the kitchen and began setting up the cutting board.

Reizo had managed to duck his head into the fridge by the time Kiriko sidled in, and after a moment of fumbling he was standing upright once more, popping the lid on a can of pop and then sipping it. He eyed Misaki pensively over the lip of the can, unsure of what to make of the girl. She was too innocent to be trying something like that, right? Probably just all in his head.

Sighing, he slicked a hand back through his dyed hair and set the beverage on the counter.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Don’t worry about it. You should probably get to teachin’ Kiriko, huh?” He ignored Kiriko’s cold tone and offered offered a cancerous grin and watched the two expectantly. After draining his drink in a few more gulps, he popped it in the trash and started sorting through cabinets, “So what, uh, do we need?”

Misaki thought a moment and looked at Kiriko. Why had her mood changed suddenly? Was it something she had done. Her brow furrowed some and tried not to worry about it too much. But she got the sense that she had caused trouble. She didn't want to upset Kiriko, not after they had been so nice to one another.

"Um...well lets see here...uh... we need shiratama-ko (glutinous rice flour), sugar...er ah...water....some anko, or whatever you guys want for filling," she was ticking things off one by one on her fingers. "Oh and katakuriko (porato starch) for dusting, or powdered sugar, whatever you have."

Nodding her head some she went over to look in her bag, "I think I have a few of those....Um...Kiriko-chan, uh what would you like in your center?"

"Anything's fine," she answered with a shrug, not raising her eyes to look at Misaki when she spoke. Having laid out all the utensils they'd need already, she set to work searching through Reizo's cupboards for the ingredients. Did he really bother to keep all of that stuff here? Apparently so; she located the dry materials without much trouble at all and began rummaging around for a bowl. The place was bizarrely organized. If her mood was less sour, she might have even had a snappy, sarcastic comment about it, too.

Being the proper little chef that he was, Reizo did in fact have all of it, but it took him several moments to help gather it all up. The anko was, sadly, in short supply due to cooking up an-dango for him and his landlord the other night, but the rest was all there. He frowned at the gathered ingredients, worried that a fifteen year old boy having all of this might lean towards him actually being a decent cook, but he stuffed the worry aside as he stepped back away from the counter.

This might have been a bad idea as well. If watching girls watching his movies made him nervous, how would watching them cook food in his house and maybe even messing up his damned kitchen make him react? He mentally kicked himself for somehow allowing this situation to develop.

“Don’t worry about giving me any hands-on experience, I learn better just watching. Kiriko-chan will surely need your undivided attention and efforts.”

Misaki gave a short nod then carefully pouted some, "Ah...Shirai-san. I usually take strawberries in the center. Can you run down to the store and see if they have some straw berry paste please."

Her eyes were on Kiriko. Something was bothering the girl she didn't know what, but she didn't feel comfortable asking her infront of Shirai. Especially if it was something that she had done to upset her.

Quickly reaching in her bag she got out some yen and held it out for him. "Here, that should be enough and uh...can you get something nice for Kiriko-chan please."

She didn't like seeing her classmate looking so down. Not after they had just been having fun. Maybe it was something she did. Misaki felt that sickly feeling creep into her chest again.

People only like you when you're happy, they only like you when they need someone around. Maybe you barged in. You're pathetic, Misaki, you know that. she thought as she waited for Shirai to leave. She didn't need too much time, but it was an excuse.

Reizo cocked an eyebrow at the girl. What in the hell? It was his house! Why didn’t SHE run down there to get it? Then again it was only a floor down and he’d be gone for little more than a few minutes anyway, and he was almost sure the pink-haired girl was pleading with him to do it. Sighing, he ran a hand through his hair yet again and snatched up the proffered money.

“Alright, fine, but you guys better not go digging around or something. I’ll be back in five.” Muttering, the tall boy jerked open the door and stepped outside, giving the two girls one more warning look before he shut the door and made his way downstairs.

“Being a host sucks ass,” he muttered to himself.

Misaki quickly sat down opposite Kiriko and looked at her in a worried way. Truth be told, Reizo's comment about her being like a rabbit was true. She did look like a worried little rabbit before a big hungry wolf. Though that wasn't what she was going for. Her main concern was Kiriko. What had she done, and why was she suddenly so sour.

Misaki looked down and then up, "Kiriko-chan, did...did I do something to upset you? You were fine not to long ago, then suddenly you got upset. What's the matter? If you want to leave, we can. I can make the food at home and bring it to school?"

She bowed her head to her classmate, "If I did something to upset you. I'm really really sorry? Can you please tell me what's bothering you?"

When Misaki asked if she'd been the one to upset her, Kiriko looked up, lifting her eyebrows. What? What gave the girl that impression, she wondered. It was the second time today that Misaki's forwardness had left her temporarily speechless. She shifted her weight uncomfortably from one foot to the other, thinking of what to say and not liking the feeling.

"It's nothing you said..." she began slowly. She didn't really want to have to get into it here. "Something Shirai said just reminded me of a... thing, with my parents."

Evading Misaki's eye as well as the question, she went back to measuring out the dry ingredients.

"You don't have to be sorry, you didn't do anything wrong. Let's finish making the food before we worry about going home."

"But...but something upset you Kiriko-chan, I promise I won't tell anyone. Please, maybe I can help," she looked at the girl with puppy like eyes. Sitting back she got out some water and mesured it.

"Shi...Shirai-san probably didn't mean what he said. He likes to get under your skin because he probably respects you and thinks that not much is going to hurt you. I think, if he knew it really did bother you, he wouldn't have said it," Misaki looked up at her. "He's not really a bad guy, just like you're not really a cold person. Like I said before, you're really strong, and it makes you stand out. That's why guys like you so much. They're just not sure how to say it to you. I know Nabashi-san in the fourth row keeps writing you love letters, but he keeps throwing them out. I guess he thinks they're not good enough or something."

Misaki smiled up at her, "You know, no matter what anyone says Kiriko. I really think you are pretty, and if there is someone that you like you should just tell them rather then waiting for them to tell you."

She blushed some and looked away, "That is ah...if there's anyone that you like."

For a minute, she couldn't do anything but stare. She looked passed Misaki's shoulder, hoping Reizo would burst back through the door and spare her the trouble of having to come up with a proper reply, but she had no such luck. Really, it shouldn't surprise her that Misaki saw things that way, but as far as Kiriko was concerned, the other girl was way off-base. Maybe she wasn't that cold a person, but Shirai was definitely a jerk who absolutely delighted in getting under people's skin! How could anyone argue that?

Her concern over Misaki having seen immediately through her was dispelled somewhat when she called her a 'strong person.' Ha, yeah right - if she was stronger, they probably wouldn't even be having this conversation. But... What was she supposed to say? She was well-practiced at being mean to people who pried a little too much or got a little too close, but she certainly didn't enjoy doing it, and Misaki was a pretty sensitive person. It would be like kicking a puppy.

... or a rabbit.

"Thanks for worrying," she answered, trying to be diplomatic, "But... you really don't have to. You say I'm really strong, right? That means I can handle it. Besides, if I'm going to talk to anybody to make it better, it would have to be my parents."

Hoping that was enough to move them off the topic, she waved Misaki back behind the counter.

"Don't worry about it, okay? Let's get back to making the daifuki." Kiriko flashed a smile. Surely that would be enough to convince her, right?

"By the way... Is there anybody you like?"

But, some additional deflection could never hurt.

Misaki gave a nod, she had been around her sisters long enough to know when to step down from the situation and leave alone. Glancing over at Kiriko she gave a light nod, but added softly, "I know...I know some times it's hard to talk to family about things, but...if...If you ever need to talk about something Kiriko-chan...I'll be happy to listen."

She smiled back at her friend cheerfully, "Because we're friends right? And being friends, it can be hard at times, but, you can always trust in someone to be there for you. If somethings bothering you...I mean...Just incase let me give you my number to call."

At the mention of liking someone she flushed red and looked down, "Well I...I don't know...I mean there was...but..." Looking up at the taller girl Misaki turned slightly red, "Please don't tell anyone right now, but I...I liked Sato-senpai. I didn't know how to tell him, and...and before I could...tell him..."

Misaki looked down and then up, "Please don't tell anyone. I don't...I don't want them knowing, at least not yet. Not till I know why it had to happen to Sato-senpai."

Smiling cheerfully she added, "And your right we should make the Daifuki."
