Current music:Morphine - Have a Lucky Day
Entry tags:kiriko, misaki, reizo, takumi

Who: Reizo, Kiriko, Misaki, Takumi
What:  Reizo's having a very fun day.
Where:  In the back alleyways near school.
When:  Monday evening
Why:  Because everyone hates him.

Reizo pursed his lips and dabbed gingerly at them with a rolled up strip of blood-smattered cloth he’d finished pulling off of the bottom of his shirt. His lip was busted, and his knuckles were torn from having hit so many people in the mouth, but beyond that and a few bruises he was no worse for wear. He sighed and leaned back heavily against the chain link fence the box he was sitting on was positioned against, and surveyed the scene he’d just created. Several other boys were all laying on the ground, most unconscious, but a few were groaning and holding various parts of their beaten bodies. Looking almost unimpressed-- either by the paltry numbers or the lack of real injuries he’d managed to inflict-- he fished a bent cigarette out of his pocket with a bloody hand and tucked it between his lips, lit it, and tipped his head back to stare up at the sky.

He knew the others, the cowards, were a ways off, surveying him from a distance. Would they bother attacking him now that their numbers were lessened? Did they have some sort of ace fighter like he always saw in the movies, just waiting to show up at the end and beat him to a pulp? He decided it didn’t much matter as he stood up, grabbed his school jacket and moseyed off. Every encounter seemed to be getting more vicious and he didn’t feel like waiting around for more morons with bats to show up. Pretty soon they’d be showing up with knives.

He turned a corner, ignoring the sound of rapid footfalls on cement behind him. They stopped a distance away and he knew they were just gathering up their beaten members to properly tuck their tails between their legs and speed off. Something of a smile tugged at his lips as he heard the footfalls again, slower this time and accompanied by a few groans.

It almost amused him. Almost.

Misaki grinned, were she an anime character she would have gone all super deformed and chibi at the moment. Nodding and giggling happily, glad that Kiriko was in such a good mood suddenly, she beamed at the boy winking some. "That's right,Minaruko-chan you can help out too. But we need to get you an apron so you don't get messy and your momma's not going to be mad. Maybe Shirai-san has an old T-shirt that we could put over your clothing. That's what my Niichan used to do for me when I was finger painting."

She wiggled her fingers with a smile at Takumi as she said, "And Kiriko-neechan is right. Daifuki is always better when it's a suprise. It tastes really yummy, but don't eat too many or you'll spoil your appetite okay?"

Misaki hummmed happily as she headed into the kitchen to put away the kidbeer, she didn't want Takumi getting the wrong impression of Reizo. Even if they were kidbeer, she still wanted him to have something healthier to drink, after all Minaruko-chan was a growing boy. Hearing Reizo she laughed some, "Well the first time he fought them Shirai-san needed help from other people but now he's gotten stronger. And koinu-niisan, Kiriko-chan already did her part mesureing out things. It's not fair, you promised me that you'd at least help and beside." She gave him a small smirk. It was very light and she only used it on people that she actually cared about, at her home this was Hikaru, Tomako, Nami and Kaito, and put her hands on her hips, "You wouldn't want to disappoint Minaruko-otoutosan by not showing off that you can help out making something fun like this right? Making sure that he knows that it's cool for tough guys to know how to cook...and you wouldn't want to go back on your promise would you Shirai-niisan."

Misaki looked at Takumi and beamed at him, "Shirai-niisan bet me that he could outcook me, but then he said he would help me make the Daifuki, and tell me where he got the really good cookies he has in hs cookie jar."

She knew she was being a sneak, she knew it was a bit on the wrong side, but if it got her the chance to see if Reizo could cook, well then it was okay to be a bit devious, right?

Snatching the band-aid, Takumi plopped himself on the ground to tend to his wound. Usually Mama would wipe it down with that painful stuff, but Reizo-niisan didn't give him any and Takumi wasn't about to put himself through more pain if he didn't need to. So instead he braced himself before picking out a couple of the obvious pebbles and willed himself not to make a sniffle of complaint, eventually taking the band-aid out and placing it on his knee with shaking hands. Pressing it down carefully, he crumpled the paper and shoved it into his pockets.

Tilting his head as Kiriko-neechan spoke, Takumi's eyes widened. W-would she really let him help that much?! Breaking into a full-blown grin, he threw himself at Kiriko with a squeal.

"Wahh, Kiriko-neechan's so nice!" he exclaimed. Arms still wrapped around her, he looked over at Misaki-neechan curiously before nodding eagerly and breaking away from Kiriko-neechan.

"Reizo-niisan's cool no matter what!" Takumi defended, before nodding. "Un, I'll go get one of his shirts. If I stay reaaaally clean, can I have a cookie then Misaki-neechan?"

For added effect, he kept his big blue eyes wide and hopeful as he clasped his hands in front of his chest.

Kiriko responded as if she was being hugged by a particularly slimy toad rather than a small child. Unsure of what exactly to do with her arms, she just held them in midair. Stiffly, awkwardly, she patted the kid's head, but didn't quite relax again until he let go of her.

"Um... You should let Shirai get a shirt for you, you wouldn't want to pick the wrong one."

Still a bit bewildered, Kiriko looked over to Misaki. Was she trying to be sneaky with that proposition...? Either way, it certainly worked in her favour. On the other hand, maybe she should help... Now that there was a little kid joining in, she didn't really want to get stuck with the cleanup.

"Let's just hurry up and make it - how long has it been since we started? No way it should have taken this long."

The look Reizo shot Misaki was a mix of awe, annoyance, and unhappy acceptance. She was really pressing the whole cooking thing, and even if her arguments weren’t very convincing, the persistence was. “Fine,” he grouched, “I’ll help. You win. Happy?” He was about to mosey back into the kitchen, but he stopped to watch Takumi first.

“Oi, you want your leg to rot and fall off, kid?” He thrust the bottle of disinfectant at the boy, eyebrow cocked and lips twisted into a moue of distaste. He didn’t much care for the thought of having the kids parents mad at him. He was unsure of they were aware of who he was, but the brief interaction he’d had with them (mostly just a comment tossed here and there when he walked by their home) lead him to believe they didn’t and a tongue lashing could very well come. Shirai wasn’t exactly a common name, so he wasn’t too surprised.. Still, they’d also seen him walking home bloody and bruised from time to time, so maybe that would be a deterrent..

The demanding look on his face dissipated when the child launched himself at Kiriko, and something like sheer horror for the bugger took over: he could already hear the sound of a slap and the wail it would produce. He winced preemptively. Nothing happened.

Wordlessly, he ambled over towards his room. He wasn’t going to let the kid into his room unsupervised, and not having him in there at all was probably for the best. “Put that damned disinfectant on,” he called over his shoulder before disappearing into the door.

Misaki smiled some and giggled. Well finally she would actually see if he could cook or if it was all bravado in the Matsuri online. She glanced over at Kiriko and turned her head to pretend to cough though it was to hide a bit of a giggle and she smiled at her friend, "Kiriko-niichan isn't used to getting lots of hugs. But I'm sure you can get her used to it."

"Normally we would be done, but even though it's taking longer it's fun because we're all hanging out." She beamed at her fellow classmate. Watching Reizo throw the disinfectant and go in she looked at Takumi. How could he think a kid like this could use the disinfectant properly. True he probably could but...he'd probably spray too much on, and that would be a real pain. Heading into the kitchen she got a napkin, and then tore it in four. One she wetted with soap and water, one with just water, and two were left dry. Walking back over she smiled careingly at the boy, "Mind if I help with that?"

She grinned and crouched down some to take the disinfectant, "Here, I do this all the time for my otouto and imouto. First we clean out all the bad stuff in there with this." Misaki gently washed out the cut after carefully pulling the bandaid loose. "Then we dry it twice."

She wiped the blood off with one of the dry napkin peices and then put them inside the last napkin. Ginning she tilted her head, then suddenly slapped the boy's palm hard enough that it stung only long enough that he would ignore the pain in the knee when she disinfected it. "All done! And yes, you can have a cookie, but you have to make sure it's okay with Kiriko-neesan and Reizo-niisan first, okay. Since it's his house and she's going to be your cooking partner, so what she says goes."

Takumi froze when Reizo mentioned his leg falling off. Gaping at him, and then down at his leg, Takumi stared at it for a long moment. It wouldn't really fall off, would it? Because he didn't want to only have one leg! Then he definitely couldn't show his sister that he could jump over the pile of boxes and Reizo-niisan would never teach him how to fight and-

The bottle thumped against his chest, shaking him out of his thoughts.

Lower lip trembling and eyes already glistening with tears, Takumi wailed, "I don't wanna lose my leg-"

He cut off with a hiccup as Misaki-neechan crouched in front of him, offering to help. And immediately he plopped down, eyes impossibly wide as he watched her clean the cut.

And as much as the slap hurt, Takumi was still concerned about losing his leg.

"I-is that enough?" he whispered. "Is my leg okay now?"

Even the mention of a cookie couldn't shake him out of his thoughts. Not when there was something much more dire to worry about.

Kiriko fetched the promised cookie for Takumi, but handed it to Misaki to administer. It was quite obvious who was more comfortable with the motherly thing, and she was more than happy to lurk in the wings and be the deliverer of treats.

"I think you'll be fine. Misaki-chan knows what she's doing."

With the cookie delivered, she went back behind the counter for what had to be the millionth time. Reizo was actually going to cook with them? Huh. Chalk it up to Misaki's insistance.

... But between him and the kid, the food would probably get ruined.

Kiriko sighed. She wasn't the best cook in the world but at least she wasn't completely useless.

"No no, it won't fall off. It would need lots of bad germs in there. My Kaasan is a scientest, so she told me about this when I was little. I used to fall down a lot and worry all the time about it too. But you know what...as long as you already took care of it, the germs will go away." Misaki took the cookie and smiled at Kiriko. She wondered if Kiriko would make a better big sister then her. She never seemed to get upset or worry too much.

Handing it to Takumi Misaki tilted her head, "Reizo-niisan was just making that up to get you to put it on so you wouldn't get sick. Want to know a secreat. Reizo-niisan acts tough but he cares a lot about people and things. My grandmother always said you can tell how a person will treat things by the way they keep their house."

Reizo returned with a dark, normal t-shirt. It was obviously worn, the color had faded from a vibrant blue to something dulled and bordering grey. Two phrases were printed on the chest: The Man and The Legend. An arrow was attached to each claim, one pointing up towards the face and the other pointing downwards, towards the wearer‘s crotch. Well at least it was PHYSICALLY clean.

He wasn’t close enough to hear just what Misaki was saying to the kid, but the way she leaned over conspicuously towards him made it evident enough: it wasn’t something she wanted him to hear. The dark glare he was wearing by the time he was close enough to hand the shirt off to Takumi was withering.

“What’re you whisperin’ about, Rabbit?”

Taking the shirt with his small hands, Takumi put it on with some difficulty - it was a bit larger than his usual clothes, and he nearly swam in it. It was after his head popped out of the collar that he realized Kiriko-neechan and Misaki-neechan were talking. Head moving back and forth as though watching a tennis match, Takumi looked puzzled.

"What are you guys talkin' about?" he asked, finally taking the cookie from Misaki-neechan. Nibbling on it to test for edibleness and taste in general, he quickly took a larger bite.

The dark look evaporated, replaced instead by one of almost gentle annoyance. Reizo could always swear he felt his eye twitch. Misaki’s cluelessness was adorable at times, exasperating at others, and sometimes, just sometimes, he wanted to kick her, but that feeling was thankfully rare. .. Thus far.

“How nice I am?” He rumbled out the question, more to himself than the others, long arms folding over his chest as he half-watched Takumi struggle to pull the shirt on and the two girls yammer. He’d never really expected them to hit it off, but here they were.. In his house, baking or cooking.. He couldn’t remember what the plan had originally been, just that this was all, somehow, his fault. Except for the brat, anyway. The brat was just a side effect of his new house.

Casting a baleful eye down at the much younger boy, he ushered him far enough away from the girls in the pretense of helping him grab something out of the cabinet, but once he was hunkered down in front of it and pretending to look through it, he tipped his head casually towards Takumi and with a low conspiratory whisper asked: “So which is prettier? Dark or pink haired one?”

Practically skipping after Reizo-niisan in his excitement, Takumi continued to eat the cookie and watched Reizo-niisan quietly as he crouched down in front of the cabinet. Still nibbling, Takumi blinked when Reizo-niisan asked him which one was prettier. Looking over at the two girls and then at Reizo-niisan, Takumi blinked again.

"Umm... Kiriko-neechan, I guess," Takumi said after a long moment. Tilting his head, he asked, "Why? Does Reizo-niisan like one of them? Or..."

His eyes grew wide, and of course his voice rose slightly. "Ehhh? I don't think I'm old enough to have a girlfriend, Reizo-niisan!"

And then he looked back over at the girls, hands still clasped around what was left of the cookie. Leaning closer to Reizo-niisan, he whispered, "Does one of them like me..?"

Hey you two, we're ready to finish these and eat. It's getting late," Misaki called out to them and then giggled at the comment from Takumi. She had caught his voice about who was cuter and it made her pause. Misaki glanced over at Kiriko and had a mental sigh. It was true in a lot of ways, Kiriko was tall, shapely, had a fine face, elegant looking brow and looked way more mature then Misaki. Her hair was the perfect black, and her skin was just rightly tan.

Where as Misaki had always been on the slightly pale side, redish brown hair like her family, and big eyes. She looked like she should have been in middle school not high school. She'd dyed her hair to stand out more from her sisters. Maybe people didn't see that as cute.

Reizo stared gravely at the young boy, before giving a solemn nod and patting him on one of his tiny shoulders. It was odd to see the large boy, who looked positively massive hunkered down next to Takumi, looking so serious at him.

“Not just one, both of ‘em,” He whispered to Takumi in a low, serious tone, “And you’ve got to pick one before the night is up. See, where they come from, cooking with someone is like askin’ them to marry you.. And you already agreed to it.” He heaved out a sigh, tossed the boy the best sympathetic look he could, gave a shrug of his wide shoulders and stood back up.

Well, at least that proved to make the night a little more amusing. When he looked back at the two girls, the look he swore he saw flash across Misaki’s face almost gave him pause. It’d been a set-up for the joke, and surely neither girl would be crestfallen at a little boy picking one over the other, but he admittedly had no experience with either of them in the whole ‘girl’ department, so maybe.. Well, that look had just been imagined, right? They hadn’t heard him ask the question…

Frowning, he made his way back to the girls.

“So what’s left?” He asked Misaki, peering curiously into her face, and leaning a bit closer than he meant to.

One could almost hear Takumi's brain shattering into a million pieces. Reizo-niisan couldn't be serious, but he would never lie to Takumi either. Reizo-niisan was a brave, honest, strong man. It would be impossible for Reizo-niisan to tell a lie!

"Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?" Takumi exclaimed. "I can't get married! I'm too young and Mama would never go for it and Miko-chan will get all weird and, and, I don't want to marry any of them! I wanna marry Reizo-niisan!"

And, in a dramatic flurry, Takumi threw himself at Reizo. Arms wrapped tightly around Reizo's legs, Takumi sniffled. The last line was expressed in a shout, so frazzled was Takumi that he forgot his "indoor voice."

Almost. Because this was a serious situation.

Misaki blushed furiously when he did so and quickly ducked her eyes not to look at him, "Uh...we have to put the fillings in and fold up the dough and such. Er..."

She turned and looked at Takumi with a 'What the hell' look, or at least one that she could muster. She looked at Reizo, then Takumi, then Reizo again and then burst into a grin. "Well congradulations Takumi-kun! I'm sure you and Shirai-san will make a lovely married couple. I'll work on the cake for you."

Kiriko clapped her hands together in a display of enthusiasm that she was apparently channeling directly from Misaki.

"We should marry them right away, don't you think?"

She smiled down at Takumi.

"Then you and Shirai-san will never have to be apart! Wouldn't you like that?"

Of course, her sinister intentions weren't far hidden beneath the surface...

Reizo stared down at the young boy attached to one of his legs, eyebrow cocked and any sort of amusement in his face draining away. An array of emotions kaleidoscoped across his face, ranging from shock to mild anger, and finally settled on one of annoyance when Kiriko stepped in. He wished desperately for something to throw at her then, but the closest thing at hand was Takumi, his cookie jar, Misaki, and a phone.. And as much as he wanted to toss Takumi at the girl, he didn’t think he’d ever hear the end of it from Misaki.

“Hilarious,” he responded dryly to the two of them, rubbing his forehead and looking back at the boy. He shook his leg in an attempt to shake him off. “Guy’s can’t get married to other guys!”

"But I caaaaaaan't!" Takumi whined again, clinging harder to Reizo's leg. "I told you, Miko-chan will pick on me and-"

He stopped, staring at Misaki-neechan with wide eyes. Girls were going to... chase after him?

He clung harder still to Reizo.

"That sounds scary!" he exclaimed, hands fisting around the material of Reizo's pants.

"You won't think it's scary when you're older," she muttered.

Absently, Kiriko wondered if Reizo was used to dealing with this. Naturally, he must be - this kid was his neighbour, and they seemed familiar enough that Reizo was "niisan" and the go-to person for boo boo healing. Maybe he had a soft spot for kids or something. If Reizo weren't such a terrible role model, it might be kind of sweet.

"Besides, guys can so marry guys. And girls and girls, too." She looked to Misaki. "Right? So, we'll get married if you get married."

She smiled at Kiriko, glad that they thought alike.
