Who: Maeko, Tom
What: Stalking!
Where: Outside the closest tram station to Nanakamado
When: After school.
Why: The two crazies have a common enemy! (Other than the murderer). Also to make Tom look JUST AND GOOD by comparison.

Maeko peered apprehensively around the wall, camera ready. Gathering enough information so this couldn't be laughed off as 'just bullying' by the police was more difficult than she'd expected it to be. People were unwilling to discuss run-ins with them in detail so she was having to do this herself.

They were stood between her and thier most recent choice of target but the bright red blazer was difficult to mistake. A Nanakamado student for sure. Taller than the people they usually want for, male. She was no photographer and even she knew that the angle was terrible but it was clear enough what the situation was and there wasn't really another convenient hiding place.

She didn't particularly like watching them gang up on people. It was less awful than watching the one sided fight between Reizo and Kanaye, mostly because she could take some solace in her determination to stop them. Doing anything about Reizo was still impossible. Still, fighting them herself would be useless right now. She watched, waiting for them to attack the student.

It was likely quite surprising to Maeko that the student was in fact not simply being bullied, but fighting back.

He slammed himself into two of the nearest bullies, knocking them down. Being on the ground meant that his attackers would have a chance to hit him, but that didn't seem to matter to the boy, who stood up with an uppercut.

Ultimately, the boy took quite a beating, but managed to dish it out enough to cause the bullies to retreat, for the time being. The boy stood defiantly, despite the hits, that is until he believed most of the bullies were gone, and then slumped against the wall.

Well that was useless. It wasn't going to look at all incriminating if people were fighting back. Maeko sighed with irritation, it wasn't helping anyone if people fought the stupid way. She looked around to make sure they were all gone and emerged to check on whoever today's victim had been. They weren't in the habit of leaving people in a terrible state, it was unlikely they'd need medical attention. But she was hiding when other people were being attacked and it was the least she could do to make sure they were okay.

Until she realized who it was.

"Sagaki-senpai." She said, trying to work out whether to walk away now and spare herself the hassle. Except she was already mid-insult. "I might have known, there aren't many people stupid enough to fight back. They go easier if you let them be." She folded her arms, still irritated. If word got out that people were fighting back this would get a lot more difficult. Tom's slumping made his condition difficult to read. "Are you okay?" She added, trying and failing to come up with a more agressive way to word it.

When Tom heard Maeko's voice, he pulled himself up to standing. He didn't want her to see him weak. But realizing that it was Akuba he looked away quickly.

"I wasn't fighting back. I started it. I've been kicking them out of this area for the past few weeks ever since I heard they were harassing students here."

He reached up to wipe the blood from his eye, and spit out a quick mixture of spit and blood. He hated that mouth wounds always bled profusely, even if it was only for a little while.

"And I'm fine."

"What."

Maeko paused for a second to absorb that. She'd heard rumours about someone trying to drive them off. She hadn't believed them, people being stupid enough to fight back and getting a lucky hit was the kind of thing that would get exaggerated.

"Are you stupid?" She snapped, pausing while she stuggled against a mix of surprise and rage to find words. "People aren't going to do anything if someone else is already fighting them."

Continuing to lean against the wall and bleed Tom looked at Maeko cockeyed. He still owed Akuba, he'd broken his promise not to talk to Aoi, even though Aoi had come ot him, it was still his fault, and so he felt he needed to do something to help her.

Though her instructions were confusing. If someone was already fighitng them, wouldn't that count as people... or at least a person doing something? Which would be the antithesis of not doing anything.

"So you don't want anyone to do anything.... so that someone will do something?"

"Yes." Maeko said, not seeming to see the problem there at all. "It's hard enough to get the police to take it seriously rather than dismiss it as something harmless. If people are fighting back then they won't do a thing, it'll just be people fighting each other."

The bleeding was irritating her. She produced a clean handkerchief from her pocket and held it out. "Clean yourself up, you look pathetic."

Tom looked at Maeko and opened his bag.

"Why do women keep trying to give me old handkerchiefs to clean my wounds?"

He pulled out his first aid kit, and opened it. He produced fresh bandages, and some sterile wipes. He begin wiping off the blood from his face, and spit out more ont he ground, away from Kaeko.

He looked at her, and cocked his head to the side.

"The police won't do anything. Those kids don't do anything that could really be considered breaking the law... unless you provoke them."

The tone wasn't dismissive, more like he was taking in her plan, assessing it's feesibility and giving honest feedback.

"I doubt the school would do anything, even if it's students and teachers weren't being murdered on campus."

Tom thinkined about it for a moment.

"It's unlikely that that gang would be here when the police were here investigating, but if they were I suppose you could try and get them caught, but I would bet they'd just chase the gang off for awhile."

"Because you keep getting youself beaten, I'd assume." Maeko said, withdrawing the hankerchief. "The school won't do anything. It's not expected to, this isn't happening on school grounds." Maeko said. She'd tried that a long time ago. "I don't need the police to do anything but paperwork. If there's a good possibility that one of them could recieve a criminal record then I can do the rest."

Tom nodded, he finished applying the bandages to his face, and hoped they wouldn't have to go into Paradise until they healed.

He looked toward Maeko, and brushed himself off.

"Okay then what's your plan? What do you need me to do?"

"I don't need you to do anything." Maeko pointed out. She paused before taking a notebook from her bag. The cat with an umberella on the cover wasn't particularly intimidating. She flicked though pages a bit until she came to printed out parts of an online journal and held it out.

"The one with the peirced ear has a younger sister who he is close to. She's been considered for a Nanakamado scholarship because she is an outstanding pianist." She said, summarizing the journal entries. "Nanakamado look at the criminal record of the whole family when determining whether to give out scholarships."

She smirked. "Soon I'll have enough here that I can be selective about what I show to the police. If I can start some rumours at the right time it won't be difficult to make it look like it's entirely his doing and like the others are just doing what he says. Nanakamado'll see his criminal record and never consider the kid for scholarship again and unless he tries to shift the blame onto one of his buddies he'll be responsible for ruining his sister's future."

Tom looked at Maeko. He relaxed his stance and listened. He wasn't used to work with people, so he no doubt looked uncomfortable.

But when she actually provided her plan Tom shook his head, almost rejecting it outright.

'No that doesn't work. You can't punish an innocent for the crimes of another."

"Why not?" Maeko demanded. Tom was the last person she'd expected to be so obtuse about this. "It's one person. They're hurting far more. I don't get many weapons to work with, I don't see why I should give any of them up just because they don't involve hitting things."

"It's not about punching. You cannot punish an innocent for the crimes of another.
It's wrong on... so many levels."

Tom ran his fingers through his hair and let out a breath.

"The universe balances the scales. If you are willing to sacrifice an innocent, then are you willing to risk an innocent in retribution?"

"Is that supposed to be a threat, Sagaki?" Maeko asked, sounding like she was being choked before realizing the possibility that he meant it as an idea rather than something literal. Her voice returned to normal.

"Your 'scales' don't work. Even if they did you're not making a verty effective point here. They already attacked my Misa-chan. If your retribution crap's got anything to it doesn't that make this the right choice? An innocent for an innocent?"

"Okay then... You would rather this person be punished by proxy? Wouldn't you rather punish this person directly for attacking Aoi?
I still owe you a debt you know. What are you going to do? Go after my dog?"

He put his hand sin his pockets, and thought for a moment.

"And what if information on this gets out? Then you appear to be hurting an innocent girl for no reason. Then you are the one who deserves punishment, and Aoi could still be made to suffer for your actions.
You are looking for justice, but what you are creating is a chain of revenge, which will only end up hurting more people."
