Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:emi, tom

Who: Tom and Emi
What: Emi finds Tom in the woods
Where: Near the schools campsite
When: shortly before the school hike
Why: Cause he couldn't have left the puppy alone all weekend!.

It was because the puppy kept running ahead. That was Tom's big problem. Now that it'd had a taste of freedom, and affection even, it kept running as far ahead as it could in a search for more people. Tom sometimes wondered if the dog wanted to find people to be friends with, or force them to spend time around Tom. Strangely the dog still didn't bark a lot, almost like he knew barking would draw attention, and if Tom was caught, the puppy would have to go, and that would work against the puppies ultimate plans you see.

Tom contemplated his reasons for being out here. He knew he didn't want to deal with any of the hassle of his classmates, he knew he didn't want the structure of the school trip. However if there was a murderer in the school, then they would have the whole school, alone, and with only tents in the way. Thomas knew he needed to stay close enough to the school trip, if something happened, he wanted to be there.
Of course Tom couldn't leave his dog sitting in the dorm room for the whole weekend, nor tied to a tree at his hidden campsite. And so here he was with the small creature bounding through the underbrush in a way that was just a bit less stealthy then Tom would have liked.

"Getting out of the room? You keep him locked up in a room?" She frowned at Tom, but proceeded to rub the dog's belly after it rolled over for her. Dogs were such push overs. Not that she wasn't subtly being one herself at the moment. Though the more she started thinking about Tom's statement, the more she began realizing what was wrong with it.

"Wait, are you trying to keep him in the dorms?" Emi questioned with what was almost disbelief. What dummy would try to do something like that?

"It's not that I'm trying to... I don't have anywhere else to keep him. I found him in an alley one night, it was raining, and I..."

Tom paused, not wanting to admit he was worried.

"...I took him to a vet, to make sure he was okay. I fed him and then put him back here I found him. He followed me, all the way back to the dorms. He won't leave me alone."

Well, she was wrong. It wasn't the dog or herself that was the biggest pushover there. It was definitely Tom. There weren't that many people who would go to such lengths for a small dog that they could've just as easily taken to a shelter or something. Even if it had been following him he could've always done that. But there was definitely a clear reason now as to why the creature would follow him in the first place. "You're a real sucker, aren't you?" She asked in a very unimpressed tone that was not expecting a reply.

Smiling again, she carefully reached to pick the puppy off the ground to get a better look at it. And also because every fiber of her being couldn't resist not picking it up and cuddling the creature no matter how much she made it seem like that was not her intention.

"What did you name him then?"

She may not have been expecting a reply but she would get one none the less. Tom rolled his shoulders.

"I dunno, he's not the irritating creature I'm forced to deal with regularly. Either way, since I don't intend to keep him, I never gave him a name."

"You're not going to keep him?" Emi replied as if he was crazy. Given the circumstances that was probably a wise choice on the boy's behalf. For whatever reason she really didn't believe that. He went through way too much trouble to care for the dog already. Still... she looked down at the puppy in her arms for a moment as she gently rubbed its head, and then looked back up at Tom.

There was one way to figure out if he was being serious or not. "Well, if you don't want him, can I take him?"

Tom had a thought it was fine to give the dog to Emi, but could not bring himself to give it away.

"Well... uh... I have his food dish, and all of things. I think he's gotten used to the room and his bed."

He shrugged.

"What if... you take care of him when I can't? Since I appear to need someone who can do that."

Rather than frown over the rejection, Emi nodded with a very I-totally-knew-it smile. Though she was a little more excited at his offer that came afterwards. "Really?!" She quickly asked in her joy, but quickly put a calmer and more serious look back on.

"I mean... that's kind of stupid for a situation like now when we're both gone. But otherwise I wouldn't mind at all." She finally set the puppy back on the ground. "You really have to give him a name though."

"If we both go some where we may just have to take him with us."

Tom looked at the puppy in Emi's arms. He nodded toward her when she mentioned the name. Tom put a hand to his chin.

"Why don't you do it?"

Nodding once more, she immediately began contemplating the name possibilities. Honestly, she wasn't really too good when it came to naming anything. There were just too many choices. The dog needed something original, cool, and sophisticated to balance out its incredible amounts of cute. It also needed a name that would make a statement!

"Count Maximilien Acacius IV, ...But that would be hard to fit on a tag. I guess we could just come up with a nickname from that, though," she suggested. "You can come up with that."

Tom looked down at the small pup.

"That's an impressive name for someone Japanese to try and pronounce."

He shrugged and reached out to scratch the puppies ears.

"Think we'll just call him Max."
