WHO: K1, Thomas
WHERE: Keiichi's dorm room...
WHAT: Breaking, entering, and training
WHEN: Pre-trip

It had been a long day for Keiichi, considering that he was coming home after a rather tenuous discussion with Shiori. He wasn't really in the mood for much, not even cooking. Besides, he'd already had ramen.

Walking down the halls of the dorms, he found his way to his room. Sliding his key into the lock, he opened the door easily, and stretched. Sliding his backpack from his shoulders, he looked towards the back of the room, and shrieked. Loudly.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING IN MY ROOM," he thundered, well, as much as Ito Keiichi could thunder anyway. He was gobsmacked. Stunned.

"Brought you something." Tom said. "You should keep your voice down, it ruins the whole point of NOT drawing attention to us. That's why I picked the lock."

He pointed to the bed where a European broad sword lay shining in the light that fell through the window.

"It's known as a bastard sword, or hand and a half sword. Light enough to be used with one hand, but the extra length on the hilt is enough to grip if you want two hands for extra power."

"You PICKED MY LOCK," Keiichi managed, although at least this time he'd closed the door first. "Isn't that sort of thing, oh, I don't know, illegal?"

Shaking his head, he tried to get past that fact. It was pretty clear Sakagi played by his own rules. That, and he seemed to be trying to be helpful.

"On second thought, never mind." Crossing his room, he picked up the sword on his bed, sliding one hand up the hilt, and then following it with his other. Just about room for a hand and a half....he supposed that was why Thomas had called it that.

It was also, to his surprise, slightly lighter than the prop sword. He figured that was because the prop was meant to be used two-handed.

Holding it, testing the weight, he turned back to regard the other boy. "Thanks," Keiichi said, nodding. "This is much better than the silly prop."

"There is a very distinct difference between what's legal and what's moral. The involvement of Paradise in our affairs will create concerns with legality, and we will often have to do things that are technically illegal in order to do what is unquestionably moral. For example, I couldn't just hand over a deadly weapon to you in one of the common rooms could I?"

Tom stepped closer and examined the sword in Keiichi's hands.

"The art of crafting a sword is far more then just putting a blade on the end of a handle. Most swords are built for balance, there's equal weight between the blade and the hilt, you can balance it on one finger. The balance is there because it's designed so that your wrist is the pivot point. You don't need to swing from the shoulder. Your elbow or wrist will give you as much cutting power, with more speed.

It's also very sharp, so be careful, though I anticipate that you will cut yourself, so it would be good to invest in some bandages."

The other boy didn't say anything, but he knew that Thomas was likely at least partially right. Who knew what they'd have to do if this all continued. They'd been lucky, in some sense, not having to deal with real world threats, always being able to do battle in Paradise.

Shiori's optimism aside, Keiichi was pretty steadfast in his belief that this shit wasn't over. Not by a long shot.

Flexing his wrists, he saw what Thomas meant. He had more control over the blade like this than he did swinging his prop sword like a bludgeon.

"I can see why," he deadpanned, looking at the sharp blade. "I have a pretty substantial first aid kid on hand, though I might invest in some larger wrap bandages now. Wrap my arms wrist to elbow just in case..."

This was perhaps the most ludicrous discussion he'd ever had, considering he was a chef. Not a warrior, even if that was the role Fate seemed to have thrust him into.

"Once you've got the hang of this you can switch up the katana but that requires more finesse. It's similar to the shape of some cooking knives."

Thomas looked around the room taking in all the decorations Keiichi has placed around the room.

"We'll also need to take some time for me to punch you."

He turned to look back at Keiichi.

"If you're going to insist on throwing yourself in front of your teammates, you should know how to take a hit."

"Funny. I thought I was doing a good job of getting smacked in the face by tentacles." The comment was deadpan, but he did feel like he took hits pretty well for a guy who generally hadn't taken a lot of abuse in his life.

Still, he was pretty sure Thomas was serious.

"If you want to take a shot at me," Keiichi stated, squaring his shoulders and looking at the other boy, "go ahead. Shirai-san knocked me off my feet. Let's see how you do."

Ito-san really had given up on trying to make sense of anything.

"I could knock you down, possibly even break your collar bone if you just stood there and took it. But.."

Tom paused for a moment.

"Learning the way I did is not going to work for you. We start small, work on tensing your muscles to take light hits and building up also learning to know your limits, when it's important to block and when to dodge. It should take some time, but the alternative is you throw yourself in the way of the wrong thing and wind up dead."

Quietly, Keiichi looked at the other boy. He didn't mind accepting help when he obviously needed it, but still...something was off about this conversation.

"Something's odd about that place, though," Keiichi said. "Realistically, I got hit harder by that...thing than I've ever been hit in my life. Makes me wonder what those Dia spells actually do."

Something should have been broken when he went careening into the column. Bruised, shattered, whatever. But no. A few Dias later and he was mostly okay, just sore.

Basically, Thomas was offering to teach him how to fight. Somehow, he was of the belief that Thomas would probably be the best one in the group to do that, save maybe Reizo.

"...alright, then," he finally agreed. "Let's do this."

"I know. Part of me wishes that Kondo hadn't healed me, there's no telling what the persona magic does to our bodies. It may be a good idea to avoid getting healed until we can confirm that it's not doing anything harmful."

Thomas seemed to be lost for a moment, clearly he was thinking about something. Whatever it was though, he neglected to mention.
He turned toward Keiichi, and took the sword. He placed it aside, and moved the other boy into a good position.

"Alright, we start out light, and work our way up."

... And thus do we begin the montage of Thomas showing Keiichi how to take a hit.

Cue Keiichi, in slow motion, recoiling from a hit to his shoulder, and shaking out his arm in pain while a cheesy 80s song of your choice plays. "Push It To The Limit" works if you so desire.

Another slow-motion image, this time of Keiichi doubling over from a blow to the midsection, a slow-motion garbled "nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo" escaping him.

Minutes later, Keiichi stands, fists raised in front of his face in blocking position, unable to evade yet another blow. It's pretty clear this is going to take some more work.

It takes the two of them about an hour or so before Keiichi managed to actually start being able to take a stronger hit.
Eventually Tom looked at the clock, and stepped back.

"It's almost midnight. I still have some thing I still have a few things I need to check out. You'll need to keep working on this. And practicing with the sword, but hopefully I'll have my plans for a practice area up and running soon."

He tapped his chin.

"Maybe you could try encouraging Shirai to hit you for practice in the interim."

Thomas shrugged, and moved toward the door.

Keiichi had the distinct feeling that he was being talked down to. This was, of course, never a feeling he liked, but hey, the other guy in the room was a better fighter than he was, and Keiichi wasn't going to go towards his sword to deal with a minor offense.

"I don't think I'll be doing that," he replied. "The encouraging of Shirai bit, anyway. I'll practice the rest."

Returning to his bed, he took a seat upon it. It was...so much nicer when things weren't complicated.

Tom opened the door as Keiichi spoke.

"It's up to you. I'll be in touch."

And with that he was out the door before Keiichi had a chance to look up.
