Who: Misaki and Tom
What: Questions Questions Questions
Where: In the hallways of the school
When: Before Lunch
Why: Because Curiosity killed the cat.

Misaki was watching around the corner of the stairwell to the third floor classrooms. She knew Maeko chan wasn't going to be happy, but she needed to find out just who Segaki-san really was. He'd wound up with them in Paradise, but unlike Emi, or Kozue, he'd not been invited per-say. She never thought he was going to do what she had told him, or that he was going to believe her. She'd just said it as a means of getting him to go away, and now she wondered if she'd just jeopardized the whole group. Though he did act weird when she hugged him. Maybe he liked boys, she mused.

Heading up the stairs quietly she looked over the classrooms till she found the one she wanted and slipped carefully past some of the seniors. Shutting the door Misaki was glad no one was in the class. She'd seen Tom's book bag when she'd noticed him that morning, he, like Gendou, stuck out. Then again she stuck out too with her hair color. Walking over to the desk, she sat down and gulped. This wasn't right, a small voice kept telling her, but she had to find some way to be of use to the others.

Taking a deep breath, Misaki braced herself as she lifted the lid of the desk and peered inside. If anything could tell her about Segaki-san, it could be found in his desk.

"That's not true!" Misaki shouted after him and hurried to follow. "You're wrong about that. When most people say they care about you, they really do. And I'm not going to turn my back on a friend. I'm serious Sagaki-san!"

She paused, "You really don't get it. People can die in there Sagaki san, I don't want to see you as one of them."

Thomas had had enough. He spun around and his hand lashed out, roughly grabbing Misaki's arm.

"STOP IT!"

His voice came out in a thick growl. Careful practice had taught him how to avoid drawing unwanted attention even when upset but boy was Tom close. He seemed almost hurt by her words, as if suggesting she was his friend was the cruelest taunt she could have come up with.

"I know what you are trying to do, and I'm not buying it. I'm not going to fall for this, any of it. Just leave me alone and let me do what I need to!"

"Let. Her. Go."

Maeko, running errands for the school council as usual, had appeared on the scene at exactly the wrong moment. Faced with some foreigner manhandling her Misa-chan, she didn't think beyond working out what the closest, most effective improvsed weapon would be. Her bag was still downstairs and so she chose the hardback notebook she was carrying. She rushed at Tom, swinging the agenda for next week's student council meeting.

For the first time Misaki was really scared of him. Her eyes went wide and she whimpered when he grabbed her by her arm. It was like yelling at a small little bunny. Misaki felt her face flush both embaressed, hurt, and terrifed.

The embaressment soon subsided first, but the terror was still there. "L-Let G-go Sagaki-san. Please...you're...you're hurting me."

She tried to pull away, fear clearly eteched upon what was once innocent eyes that had tried to convince him that they were friends. Now she wasn't sure what to think.

Tears formed in the corner of her eyes, as she tried to move away, "No...I...Sagaki-san...I'm te-telling the tr-truth...I..."

It was only when Maeko came in swinging that Misaki some what manged to calm her fear. Seeing her friend's anger she got between them trying to hold Maeko off, "Maeko-chan! No...No...It's my fault okay. I went into the class room and was looking through his things. Please don't be mad at him. He was only reacting as he should. I...I was in the wrong. Please don't hurt Sagaki-san!"

The pain in her eyes was enough for Tom to quickly release his hand. The confusion on his face was obvious. How could she continue to act like this even in the face of his anger.

Maeko charging in to attack was actually a relieving moment for Tom. Having someone try to hit him was familiar territory, comfortable, he knew what to do here.

He ducked low as she came in for the swing, since he'd already let go of Misaki, it wasn't difficult to sidestep past Maeko, and move away from both of them.

He stood back, his cold eyes watching, not saying a word. Body tensed for an attack. With Misaki now standing between him and his attacker.
In a moment he would leave, but he needed to make sure they wouldn't follow him.

"How dare you..." Maeko growled, still clenching her notebook. "How dare you touch her?"

It finally registered in her mind that this was Tom, who she had given information in return for his staying away from Misaki.

She gripped the notebook tighter, wishing she'd had the foresight to bring her bag up with her. A screwdriver would have made a much more effective weapon. The book would have to do.

"Misaki-chan, move out of the way. I'll get rid of him for you."

"No! Maeko-chan, please stop! I'm the one at fault. Be mad at me! I went in his desk and everything. He...I was following him when I shouldn't," the younger girl blushed and looked down.

"I'm sorry Maeko-chan, but please don't hurt him. Sagaki-san isn't at fault here. I am, so please be mad at me over it." she pouted and looked at her sadly.

"No it's.... I didn't..."

Tom frowned This whole interaction thing was what he'd hoped to avoid, and why he didn't interact with people usually.

"It's fine. I'm leaving"

Rather then explain his thoughts, and possibly further create a situation, Tom figured leaving would just be easier. He took a few steps bakc and turned around.

"Sagaki-san...I...I'm sorry. I won't bother you again. I promise." she looked down.

"Don't come back." Maeko growled. She should never have trusted someone like Tom to keep his word. "Don't ever dare touch her again."

Her grip on the notebook was still not loosening.

"Maeko, please stop it," Misaki shouted and looked down. "Just please...He didn't do anything wrong. I'm the one that was peeking into his desk. He had every right to be mad at me, so please don't go yelling at him."

Misaki looked down trying not to cry. Her arm hurt but she wasn't about to say anything.

Tom inwardly sighed. He was beginning to worry that even the minimal amount of interaction he was having with these people was too much. He'd lost the confidence of one source, and that Aoi girl... he had no idea what that was about.

He turned a corner as quickly as possible, and began moving toward his room, checking to make sure he wasn't being followed.
