WHO: Guidance Counselor & Kozue.
WHAT: Mandatory Meeting.
WHERE: School Office.
WHEN: After Yoshi's dungeon.
WHY: Apparently Kondo needs guidance. This is probably true.

Kozue sat in the chair in the Guidance Counselor's office, hands crossed in her lap, determined not to be uncomfortable. She hadn't been back in here since––well, actually, she personally hadn't been here ever, really, but she did have hazy memories of her Shadow's rather inflammatory visit to the Guidance Counselor's office. They'd replaced the lamp, at least. She wondered if Hamasaki-sensei had any recollection of the event.

He probably did. But she wasn't going to give him the satisfaction of looking frightened that he'd bring it up.

She had a sense that sleep in forever and buy myself a designer purse would probably not fly as a response here. Kozue shifted slightly in her seat, and glanced for a moment upwards, thoughtfully. "No, I haven't really gotten any good ideas yet."

But it didn't engender in her the same sense of terror as it had a few months ago; it made her feel tired, yes, but not suddenly desperate to claw for anything she could reach out and grab.

"I see," he said. His voice was neutral, but he was gesturing to the candy bowl again.

"Have you discussed this with your family at all?"

"My mother said she's going to support me making my own decision," she said, obligingly helping herself to another candy. And that was true, even, although it had been meant more in the spirit of marriage than career. What her parents wanted her to do, Kozue wasn't even really sure. Her mother was still flexing the new and glorious breathing room in the family; right now, it was about Maria, not Kozue.

"But you have no decision as of right now, correct?" Hamasaki touched a hand to his chin in the kind of gesture that was more meant to indicate thinking than doing it - he looked much more ponderous as he reached across the desk to fish out one of the hard toffee candies none of his students liked.

"Perhaps it would be prudent to ask for suggestions?"

"Nope, no decision." She took another candy to insulate herself against the sudden, brief spike of wanting desperately to be told what to do; she had gone down this road. She didn't want to be down this road. But it still, once in a while, looked so tempting, that…

"To ask who for suggestions? You, Hamasaki-senpai? Or someone else?"

"A person who you trust. Someone who can give you structure." It took him a moment to answer - he did not want to be so rude as to open his mouth while there was still candy in it.

"Everyone makes mistakes, but it's better to try to get input in order to avoid them, don't you think? Especially with something as important as your future. Has anyone ever told you, 'Kondo-san, you might be good at this?'"

"Thanks for the suggestion," she said, nodding politely; her hands went back into her lap. God, what she would not have given for this three months ago. "I'll think about who I should ask." Yes, she'd think, very briefly, but she had already come to her conclusion. She'd ask nobody.

He gave an affirming nod and a smile to go along.

"Have you thought about what you might be good at, or received any input from others? As I recall you didn't intend to sit the entrance exams in your third year, correct?"

"You're right, I'm not planning to." Which was always a load off--and it would make high school more fun, she knew, because of all the stress she'd be avoiding as entrance exams approached.

As for what she was good at… It took her a moment; but there was not that same interference that had been there before, telling her that the answer was nothing, nothing at all. "I'm good with people. So I think I'd like to work with people." What surprised her was not the response, lying and making things up was easy; but that now, having said it, she found it was true.

"I would just like you to know that even most people-oriented jobs - such as mine - require at least some certification. It may be worthwhile in the long run to try to bring your marks up." He spoke gently, in a voice meant more to remind than impose. "But, why don't you allow that to guide you when you choose your electives for next year?"

Marks. God forbid. But Kozue nodded; it was at least something to think about, although there was the balancing factor of money. With enough money bad grades could vanish, or at least be rendered unimportant. With enough money and connections, both of which Kozue possessed in spades.

"Thanks, sensei," she said, with a nod that was meant to say yes, I'm chastened, I'm educated, I'll think about it. "Is there anything else?"
