cornered! by gossip
WHO: Kozue and Yoshi.
WHAT: Snoop, snoop, snoop, gossip!
WHERE: School, outside 1-B classroom.
WHEN: After Kai's dungeon.
WHY: She can't stand curiosity.

After class, Kozue wiggled out of her seat, shot a stern look to the weird boy who had been trying to slip some kind of note into her school bag, and took survey of the classroom. Where was her target--er, friend? Where was her dear friend Tachibana-chan?

She peered around until she caught sight of Yoshi's braids disappearing out the door; slipping around some of the bigger students and feeling thankful for being tiny, Kozue followed, calling out: "Hey, Tachibana-chan! What's up? Got a second?"

Her smile was wide, her friendliness genuine, but this was how one Kondo Kozue hunted; it wasn't like she bore the other girl any ill-will, she was just consumed with a terrible need to know the truth. Well, not the truth, if anyone is being honest. The dirt. The scandal. All the details.

Yoshimi, oblivious to the fact that news of the situation was making its way around the group like a bad case of mono, perked up and turned at the sound of her name.

"Huh, Kondo-chan?" Certainly not her least favorite person to run into, especially with no Kiriko in sight. "Got a bunch of 'em! I don't have anywhere special to be right now."

She couldn't help but be grateful for the distraction; soccer season was over, the cooking club had become a lot less appealing since her run-in with Keiichi, and showing up to art club meetings on a regular basis was getting boring fast.

"What about you?"

"Oh, I have tennis practice and, I think Ikebana club. I'm really not sure when they meet," she responded, dismissive as ever. She said no more about them, but her tone and the way she waved her hand and tipped her head slightly made it clear that these were hardly places to be and certainly not special. She blew off clubs twice as much as she went, these days, anyway; if she had contributed in the first place, the tennis club would likely have kicked her out by this point, but there was hardly any difference between her attending and not attending.

"Want to grab ice cream or something?"

"That sounds great, yeah!"

Yoshimi nodded vigorously at the suggestion of ice cream; Kigakiga's rotation of bizarre flavor ideas rarely bored her, and skipping out on clubs was always more fun than the alternative (unless the day's art club meeting was going to involve a significant amount of male nudity, but she hadn't caught wind of anything half so interesting).

"So, what's the occasion? Just catching up?"

Kozue smiled broadly; her response was meant to look unstudied and spontaneous, and to some degree, it even was. "Well, with all the crazy things that have been going on, I really don't feel like we hang out as much as we should! You know, being that we," she waved a hand between them in a significant but vague way, "have a lot in common, yeah?"

"How's stuff been for you?"

Because despite their common ground, Kozue realized that they didn't really travel in the same circles (otherwise she'd have known a lot more about their 'common' activities, and probably a lot sooner), and she didn't know all that much about Tachibana, beyond surface details and strange anecdotes.

“You know, I’ve been thinking about that sort of thing – how I never seem to find any time to just hang out with anyone these days. All this anti-bullying stuff keeps you busy, doesn’t it?”

Aside from fighting Shadows – or, as it stood, helping other people fight Shadows – Yoshimi could only guess that their common ground included a certain nonchalance when it came to the art of love, but she didn’t seem to object to the implication; after nearly a year, even the best attempts at secrecy couldn’t keep a few stray whispers from getting around the school, and she just thanked her lucky stars that poor Shirou wasn’t the most perceptive of souls.

“It’s all been good, I guess. Never enough hours in a day, but I get by alright.” She cocked her head to one side, trying to remember the last time she’d really talked to Kozue. Or anyone. The results were rather disconcerting. “What about you? Any great new adventures?”
