Who: Kozue + Kiriko.
What: Return from home. Room-mates talk.
Where: Their room.
When: After snacking.
Why: To spam the community.

When she had dropped off her bags, earlier, Kiriko had not been in. Now, Kozue came back, still clad all in fancy black clothes appropriate for someone who had lost an immediate family member. She slipped into her dorm room, not pausing to knock, with an eager, quick survey of the room. If Kiriko was there... well, Kozue needed to ask her something. Kiriko was good at this; no, frankly, Kiriko enjoyed this kind of thing. Surely, if anyone could answer her question, Kiriko could. That was the mantra that chorused in Kozue's head.

Kiriko was indeed present, and upon seeing her friend enter the room, she sat up with a smile, lowering the screen of her laptop.

"Hey, how'd it go? I'm sorry again for skipping out on you. But, you know." She made some vague gestures apparently meant to indicate "but my parents would have been there and I've been ignoring their calls for months and they've already told everyone what a horrible daughter I am and I'm really not so eager to see them if I can help it." Having already explained the situation before, she trusted that Kozue would understand.

Kozue seemed to relax, slightly, relieved that Kiriko was there and she wouldn't have to wait. God. She'd explode if she had to wait much more. She closed the door, and smiled, leaning against it. "I know. And it was really pretty depressing. Especially with the red lilies everywhere."

She let that unpleasant thought hang a moment. It was a memory nobody really wanted to revisit.

"Don't worry about it. We got back like more than a quarter the funerary costs in condolence money, anyway, apparently grandmother scared the living daylights out of a lot of people, and it's all over now."

"Oh, so you weren't the only one she was terrorizing?" She ignored the bit about the lilies save for a brief nod. She hadn't even considered that. Hopefully she wouldn't have to visit any chilly funeral homes any time in the near future. That would probably just involve answering a lot of questions about odd behavior.

"How was your family about it?"

She shrugged. "Well, you can imagine me, my brother, and my mom." She looked down, briefly, and then back up at Kiriko, with more earnestness in her eyes than was almost ever there.

"I have a question... I guess some advice I need, if you don't mind taking a minute? I thought I could ask you, since you've been so incredible at like... taking charge of your own life, recently."

It was hard not to puff up a little at that. She suppressed her smile (badly, for once) and sat up a little straighter on the bed, closing her laptop to give her full attention over.

"Sure, what did you need?"

Kozue took a few steps over. Not exactly dragging her feet, but hesitance was obvious in her steps and her posture, until she sat down on the end of Kiriko's bed and took a breath. "So, I'm not getting married after gradution anymore. What do you think I should do instead?"

She tilted her head back, eyes sweeping over the ceiling. She was definitely a bit jealous of the relatively hassle-free out that Kozue had stumbled upon - sure, somebody had to die in the process, but nobody whose time wasn't long overdue anyway. She looked back down to Kozue.

"Well, what do you like doing? Do you think you'd want, like, a career, or?"

She blinked. Bit her lip. Looked back at Kiriko. "I don't know. That's kind of why I'm asking—I need someone to tell me what to do and you're really good at making choices. And you like telling people what to do, too. It's like, a win-win situation."

She grinned a little bigger at that.

"Well, I still need some kind of input, right? If you don't want to work then why should you bother?"

Eyes to the ceiling again, and she made a faint 'hmm'ing noise.

"Maybe you'd be like, a good personal shopper, or one of those people whose job it is to dress people before they go on TV. We're still just first years so you don't have to know exactly yet, right? If we can't think of anything better later on you could always be my personal secretary."

"Those are great ideas!" Kozue beamed. Literally, like sunshine for a moment, at the suggestions. Especially the last suggestion. She scrambled up to her feet. "I could do that! I think, at least, if it wouldn't be too much work. Although..." She pursed her lips. "That does sound like a job, and I'd probably be awful at typing things up and transferring phone calls. That's what a secretary does, right?"

"Well, maybe. I'll think about it!" This was offered breezily, and Kozue turned back towards the door. "I've got to grab something, I should be back later."

Kiriko was left sitting on the bed, blinking, not entirely certain what had happened. Eventually she decided that the best course of action was just flipping open her laptop and choosing to selectively remember that bizarre conversation.
