Who: Kanaye, Maeko.
What: Concern? I guess?
Where: Kanaye's House
When: Evening, after Kigakiga shift.

Maeko had been to Kanaye's home before but not as a guest. It made her nervous - large places often did. They made her feel very much like she wasn't meant to be there. If there was a doorbell she was ignoring it, she had had quite enough of buttons that made noises.

She'd arranged to visit before, right? So it should be okay. She knocked, first almost inaudiably and then again a little more firmly.

Maeko nodded, not really sure why this wouldn't be the case. "She translates."

She fidgetted with the blanket a little then shrugged. There was nothing weird about her home. It was everyone else who was weird.

"Are you okay? you can talk about it more if you want, I'll listen and..." She sighed. "If it really is so bad that we had to come here then maybe the reaction to you suddenly vanishing into nowhere won't be the best. You might not have another chance later."

"Ok, anything actually worthwhile...?" He asked, looking at her curiously.

Kanaye shrugged. "What are you implying? Do you want to do something or something? You can just ask, you know."

"Translation's worthwhile!" Maeko said, almost sounding certain of herself.

"That's not what I meant." She said after a moment's pause where she tried to decide whether to be flustered about that. "I just...you seemed really distressed before. If you're upset then you can tell me, okay? ...And it might not have been such a good idea to come here. If you might be being followed to the point where this is the only place it's safe to talk don't you think someone will have noticed you've vanished?"

"Ok, anything that isn't making her work for him? It's a relationship, it's supposed to be equal..." he grumbled to himself.

Kanaye looked disappointed. "Damn. And well. At least they can't hear us. I think they'd just think that they lost sight of me, anyway. Nothing more. They can't exactly say "he went invisible" or anything, right?" He shrugged.

"I guess they can't say that but. If they lose you aren't they just going to try harder next time?"

"They'll never find this place. I have a safe haven somewhere, at least. If worse comes to worse...I'll think of something. I have to go to school, at least, right?" He asked, smiling. "Are you sure that wasn't what you meant?" He asked.

"Yeah, you can get here from school, at least..." She stopped fidgetting with the blanket and placed her hands on top of each other carefully. "You know your own situation better than I do. If you really think it'll be okay I'll take your word for it."

"I was just worried, is all!" She said, puffing out her cheeks a little becore apruptly changing the subject. "Sagaki might be able to help. If anyone knows anything about recording people and being kind of creepy it's him. Maybe he'll know how to make sure you know if there's any recording happenning."

"Exactly." He said, nodding. "Thanks, Maeko. It means a lot!"

"Yeah. I plan on asking him about stuff. He should know a lot about it. At the very least, he can advise me on what to do." He shrugged.

"Enough about me. Are you ok?"

"'s fine." She said, smiling. Her left hand, which had healed well enough to eventually go without dressing at the beach (Maeko had attributed this to the salt water being an effective antiseptic or something) but then suddenly got a lot worse after returning from Toshimi's place (Maeko had blamed this on the buzzer. Somehow) and had been very hastily and clumsily bound when she'd checked up on her boyfriend before was now bound more carefully. Her right was uncovered for the first time in a while. It wasn't horribly scarred but her time with the witch had certainly left permanent marks there.

"And I'm fine! Looking forward to the weekend already, though."

Kanaye's eyes wandered over her hands, sighing as he looked at her. "If you're fine, what happened to your hands? Are you ok? Are you SURE you're ok? Don't lie to me, Maeko. Your hands have been horrible off and on after your place." His eyes narrowed.

"Yup, I'm sure!" She smiled, nodding. "They got way better while we were at the beach. I heard sea water is a good antiseptic so..." She held her right hand up almost proudly. "I just hurt the other in the dungeon or something."

"That's bullshit and you know it." Kanaye said bluntly, sighing as he grabbed them gently. "This has been going on ever since your place. You need to stop doing this. It's hurting you." He said, looking her in the eyes. "Just...Stop it, ok?"

Maeko apparently didn't know it was bullshit because she looked confused. "I'm not doing anything." She said, shaking her head. "They're just taking a long time to heal, that's all."

"They shouldn't. They should have healed by now. You're doing something to them. You're hurting yourself. Pay more attention next time you're nervous. Stop doing that to yourself, ok? It's gotta hurt..." He said, sighing.

"Whatever. what now?" he asked, leaning back.

"I'm not- ...fine." Maeko was certain she wasn't doing anything. But resolved to continue not doing anything. She withdrew her hands, placing her right over her left. "I'll try, I guess."

"I don't really know. I was just visiting to check on you. I'm sorry if I might have caused any problems with what I said back there."

"Not at all. It's fine." He sighed. "I'm sorry for dragging you into this. And with that stupid meeting coming up..." He laughed to himself. "We're kind of screwed, aren't we?" He said, smiling at Maeko sadly.

"Entirely." Maeko agreed, trying to find at least some humour in he whole situation. She couldn't and sighed but returned the smile. "I don't...I'm sure it'll be okay."

She wasn't sure at all. But she should be sure. And it was important to always at least try to do as you should.
