Who: Kanaye, Maeko.
What: Concern? I guess?
Where: Kanaye's House
When: Evening, after Kigakiga shift.

Maeko had been to Kanaye's home before but not as a guest. It made her nervous - large places often did. They made her feel very much like she wasn't meant to be there. If there was a doorbell she was ignoring it, she had had quite enough of buttons that made noises.

She'd arranged to visit before, right? So it should be okay. She knocked, first almost inaudiably and then again a little more firmly.

Maeko couldn't say she didn't approve of the idea of working hard but she was more than a little worried about the fact that Kanaye sounded like a motivational speaker, especially having had a whole lot of experience with faked smiles recently.

"Are you...sure you're sure?" She asked, fully aware of how stupid that sounded. "You're talking very fast."

"That's because I'm so happy to see you!" He said quickly, smiling. "And I'm sure. I'm fine, Maeko. No need to worry!" He laughed happily, grinning. "What do you want to do?"

"I guess..." Maeko was still unconvinved. Mainly becuase this kind of completely contradicted something he'd said all of a day ago.

"I was just visiting to check up on you, really, you had me kind of worried."

"Oh, I'm fine. I think we should do something! What do you want to do?" He asked, smiling.

Maeko shook her head. "No clue, sorry. I'm happy just to sit here. It's been a tiring few days."

She was still debating whether or not to pry. He'd told her just yesterday he wasn't okay with this. And much as she couldn't approve of running from one's responsibilities she somehow doubted he'd changed his mind so completely. She figetted a little.

"What changed since last night?" She asked eventually, slowly and deliberately and choosing words as carefully as she was capable of.

"Nothing's changed. Nothing's changed at all..." He said, smiling.

"Then knock it off. If it isn't okay then this whole thing is really kind of creepy." Maeko said, frowning.

Kanaye kept smiling. He nudged his head over to the dresser, where a letter was.

This was beyond creepy. This was enterring territory like - Maeko didn't even know. Spy stories? Maeko picked up the letter carefully. What was with the letter? She was right here. Surely -and this seemed awfully stange as one of her thoughts, being very opposed to 'just talking' - he could just talk. The only reason not to would be...

...was someone listenning? Did that mean someone was listenning? Maeko suddenly felt very unsafe.

"Hey, is it okay if I read this?" She asked, trying to sound calm. Maybe it was, she didn't even know, some kind of joke.

Kanaye nodded. He gestured to the door and put a finger on his lips.

The letter stated:

Dad's still being an asshole. I think he's doing everything that is now putting a surveillance camera in my room. It's kind of annoying, honestly. On the other hand, they can't follow me to some places. Such as, oh, paradise. We can talk in the butterfly room. Is that ok with you?

That was creepy. Very, very creepy. Maeko was more than happy to get out of here very, very fast.

After some thought she pocketed the letter, leaving it was likely a bad idea, and nodded.

Kanaye smiled and walked out of hte room, holding open the door and nodding, smiling at the at the door, which was the same one that let Maeko in. "Good to see you, Minako." She just nods and leaves. "Shall we be going to the place, then, Maeko?"

Maeko had almost expected him to open the door right into paradise then (and she had still nodded, which was probably a good demonstrtation of just how much she wanted out of this place).

And she still wanted out of this place, but manners came first and she bid good evening to the maid they passed before walking for the door a little too quickly.

"Yes, that sounds nice." She said, trying to keep her voice from shaking.

He walked out with her, looking behind him as the servants watched him go. Then, he silently walked towards the butterfly room. "We can't drive...Sorry, Maeko. Want me to carry you?"

Maeko was just relieved to be out of there.

"I don't need carrying, I can walk." She said, almost laughing at the idea. Or laughing becuase that had just been so weird there wasn't much else she could do. She followed quietly until they got to the aresa of town she knew better and then hurried on toward the noodle alley entrance.

Kanaye nodded and opened the door to the butterfly room, sighing as he walked in. Waving to the hands, he smiled. "Glad to be out of there..."

He turned to Maeko. "Anyway, what did you want to talk about?"

Maeko almost started to answer before she was tackled by hands. It had been a long time, after all. She attempted to pull them off of her and eventually succeeded.

"What- What the hell was going on back there?" She was briefly interrupted by the hands bringing a white and brown lump. They seemed proud of it and the Tom doll seemed to have a deathgrip on it. "Were they really - yes, it's very nice - -were they really recording your room?"

"Yes. Listening in, at least. I think I crushed the recording devices. I'm not sure if I got all of them though." He said casually. "My dad is trying to get me to agree to being the heir through punishments if I don't agree. Like, say, not being able to see you. And that would be terrible..."

Maeko was conflicted. On the one hand she'd never even contemplated the idea of not doing one's duty. On the other hand, this whole situation was completely crazy.

The third and fourth hand seemed to sense her distress and a completely useless blanket ended up over her head. Thank you for that, useless things from inside her head.

She sat down on the couch, folding the useless blanket in her lap.

"That whole thing...it just seems surreal." She sighed. "Are you okay? You really are all healed up, right?"

"Physically? Yes. I'm perfectly fine. Now, mentally is another matter..." He sighed and sat down on the couch next to her. "Dad's doing the same thing he did when I was younger. Except I didn't know anything else back then. Now..." He sighed. "I just don't know."

He smiled at her. "Enough about that. How are you?"

"That's good, at least." She patted the blanket as the hands returned to playing with the dolls. "I was worried you might have hit your head or something."

She decided to answer the question before prying further.

"I'm fine. I've just been a little busy recently." She said. "A lot of people were withdrawn over summer, the student council's lost a whole lot of members."

"Yeah. Murders aren't exactly good for PR." Kanaye said, leaning back. "I'm surprised people are still attending this school. It's probably because there's only been "two" deaths so far." He did, in fact, do air quotes over the two. "They've "stopped" so I can see why people still stay in."

She laughed. "My mother believes the tabloid newspaper stories. She's been talking about withdrawing me. It's not going to happen, though. My father won't hear a word-" Terrible wording. "-...doesn't think it's a good idea. It's not like there's any other schools nearby he'd approve of, anyway."
