Who: Kiriko and Reizo.
What: Appleologies.
Where: The Beach.
When: After Toshidungeon, last day of the beach.
Why: That was humiliating.

The problem was just that she had too much pride to swallow. This was probably objectively true, but it was also very little comfort, and so she fiddled anxiously with a strand of hair hanging over her shoulder as she marched across the beach towards its lone occupant. This was necessary, she reminded herself.

Alright, quickly. Like ripping off a bandaid.

And it couldn't possibly make it any worse. If she hadn't gone and embarrassed herself in the first place it would never have come to this!

She stopped at the shore and let the waves lap over her feet, folding her arms across her chest. Calm. Still. Okay.

"Hey, Shirai?" she waited for acknowledgment. "I just wanted to say that I'm sorry about freaking out on you earlier." Even though you did sort of deserve it.

The water splashed down on the top of the boy’s head, plastering his shock of dyed white hair tight against his skull. A moment passed thereafter, Reizo’s eyes hidden by his sopping wet hair, and the breath he was sucking and exhaling out calmly through his nose only hitching once, the noise made unnecessarily gruff and crude against the picturesque backdrop of the beach.

He sunk deeper into the water, strands of white hair floating freely in it before even they too disappeared beneath the gentle ebb of the water. He was still for a second, visible only as flesh-colored ripple underwater on the sloping sand.

In a moment he was beneath her, and an even more confusing moment he levered his head in between her legs and powered the both of them up through the water so that she was nearly completely out of it, sitting (likely perplexed) on his wide shoulders with his hands tight on her ankles.

“So do you always turn into a jealous, angry bitch when you’re on the rag? Or am I just getting special treatment?“ He said, tipping his head back to look up at her properly and dig the top of his skull into her stomach for good measure.

“You like heights?”

An irritated little noise? Well that was... decent. Sort of a victory? She stood and watched him with her hand still drawn back (ready to spring backwards across his face if he got too close), then just stared confused when he dunked underwater. Was he that eager to avoid an answer?

And then suddenly he was underneath her and she was 6 feet higher in the air than she had any right to be, shrieking and pinwheeling to keep from falling over and somehow managing to stabilize when he caught her ankles (though not before a desperate grab for the back of his head). Slightly hunched forward with her arms out for balance, she managed to shout some indistinguishable protest along the lines of "whatareyoudoing" and kick at him with her heels, though the latter sent her flailing to regain balance once again.

"Do I-- what?! I'm not... No, put me down!"

Put me down

A silence descended after that statement, oppressive and thoughtful, the sort that wasn’t a silence at all, really, because the infrequent seabird caw could still be heard, and the tide still lapped calmly against the beach, but one that you created by the stunning realization of the stupid thing you just said dominating your thoughts, the phrase itself sliding through your vision in honking big red letters.

It didn’t help that a grin had slid across his face, evil and satisfied, either. His fingers flexed gently on her thin ankles, almost dancing across them, and his wide shoulders rolled, tipping her with them as he drunk in the mounting terror of the moment, and give her time to really start to appreciate what she’d said.

“If you say so,” he said, voice dropped several timbres into something sinisterly smoky.

He rolled his neck forward and slid his hands up, hefted her up above his head and propelled her through the air with a grunt. The distance really was sort of impressive.

Her bizarre combination of a shriek and a "whoa" was silenced suddenly, drown out by the (rather painful) sound of her back slapping the water. Silence for a few moments, the kind absent of honking red letters, then a loud gasp and flailing splashes as she broke the surface once again, this time with a sheet of dark wet hair covering her face completely. Her teeth gritted, her shoulders drawn up to her neck, she hooked a finger to draw back the curtain of hair and reveal the glare that anyone sensible would have already known was under there.

"I hate you."
