Mokoto was sitting alone this time in the classroom and looked rather unhappy. The discussions with the teachers, Kei's parents, and Kouchisei's father had not exactly endeared her to the situation. Not only that but there were clues that she found that made her think that a student was behind both matters and that distressed her. How could anyone one do such a thing to their fellow student? It was repugnant not to say the least bit disturbing.

She let out a long sigh as she waited for Satou and Retsu to come in. Both would be interviewed and she wasn't to thrilled at the prospect of grilling either boy. Both were known for their charms.

They had better take this seriously. she thought as she heard the door slide open.

"Enter."

Kiriko was not pleased. She did not like being interrupted from her work, she did not like being treated as though she was in trouble, she did not like that everyone in their "special" group had been called down, and most of all, she did not like appearing on a list with Reizo (though that her name came first was some small comfort). The last seemed almost a definite implication - how could any trouble any of them have caused ever be on the same level of what that delinquent got up to?

She entered as told with the most subtle of sneers already tugging at her lips - enough to showcase her obvious displeasure with the situation and not quite enough to let slip that she had no intention of co-operating with some pathetic outsider cop who had nothing better to do with her time than harass schoolchildren. What could she possibly want them for, standing around on the lawn? She couldn't know anything. The disciplinary commitee at school would have been adequate to field anything they might have done.

"May I ask what this is regarding?"

Mokoto smiled, she liked this girl, direct and to the point. This ment she could be blunt right back and that the girl would be honest with her. With a nod of the head she quickly introduced herself.

"I'm Detective Shirow Mokoto, of the Iburi metroplitan police department, Ikeda-san. I'm here to investigate into the murder of Sato Kei-san as well as the apparent vanishing act of Oubai Kouchisei. The reason I asked you down here is according to other students you were among the group that have been engaging in activities recently with Oubai Kouchisei -san. I want to know what your relationship with him is and for how long has it been going on?"

Kiriko quirked a brow.

"Murder?"

First she'd heard of it, and her expression said as much. It gave her pause. If the police had concluded murder, perhaps they had found poison or something in his system, which would mean it was totally unrelated to the other world. On the other hand, if it still was the other world and they didn't know, it could just be some cock-and-bull story.

"We're friends. Since the start of the school year, I suppose. Is it normal to question everyone a person knows, or are you just stabbing in the dark?"

That was an interesting question. Was she, honestly she didn't feel it. These kids were the ones seen with Kouchisei, and the fact was also that some of them had intereactions with Kei too, that made them people of interest.

Mokoto looked at her directly, not wavering at the question. "Yes Murder. As it stands we don't know the who or the how they did it, nor do we have a suspect, but there's ample proof that this wasn't just a random act."

She tilted her head, "So you've known Oubai-san, since the first week. How well do you know him Ikeada-san? Do you two hang out with one another?" Mokoto grinned some, "Actually when it involves the murder of one student and the apparent vanishing and re-apperence of another. Yes, it is normal."

The other brow raised as well.

"Ample proof? Such as?"

They didn't know how they did it? Another mental mark for "just bullshitting." But ample proof? Surely there was plenty she didn't know - another point to "strange and mysterious poison."

Kiriko frowned a little when the cop tilted her head. The impression she had was one of decreasing professionalism by the second. She normally wasn't so rude to figures of authority, but she usually had a good sense of how far she could push people, and thus far she was recieving no signs that she should reign it in.

"We hang out," she answered casually. She didn't feel like she was being told the truth. She had no intimate knowledge of murder cases, but it still seemed strange. "And if you'd like to know about Oubai-san's 'vanishing act', maybe you should be speaking to him? Though, the way I heard it, he ran away."

Mokoto grew serious, and crossed her arms, "That I can't discuss, as this is an investigation. Now, if you would please just answer my questions."

Mokoto raised an eyebrow. Kouchisei Oubai didn't strike her as the sort that whould 'Hang out' with anyone. In fact he struck her as the opposite, someone who was very closed up. She closed her eyes and took a breath, "So you two hang out? Where do you go and does he have any other friends that he 'hangs out' with?"

A scowl she some hearing her, "You heard, from who did you hear that he ran away? If you're his friend, wouldn't you have known about such matters Ikeda-san?"

The scowl rather delighted her. She liked that expression on people who inconvenienced her. True, seeing it on a police officer wasn't what most people would consider such a treat, but again it told her something - if the only "contradiction" or piece of interest she could find in Kiriko's story was regarding this, then they really didn't have any idea what was going on.

Kiriko put her elbow on the chair's arm, then leaned her head onto her palm, looking decidedly bored.

"I don't know. Gossip. He never really wanted to talk about it, and I didn't press the issue."

Her eyes met with Mokoto's.

"I said we were friends - not bosom buddies. I've only really spoken with him since April, as I said, so I hardly see why I should be privvy to all his personal problems. Anyway, we have a little group that all hangs out together, the members of which I presume you already know since you've called us all down for questioning."

Mokoto needed something to use against her to get her to open up more and then smiled some slowly, "You're in the first year, correct? Then I'm sure you know of a girl named Aoi Misaki-san. She's in your class correct?"

Pulling out a picture she placed it on the desk before Kiriko. The picture was of Misaki and Kei sitting at his desk a day or so before the murder. "Then you know that this young woman is of interest to us. She's been seen in the company of both Oubai and Sato at different times. Most notable a day or two before Sato Kei was found dead."

Taking back the picture she looked at Kiriko with stern eyes, "I would hate to have to bring her down to question her at the station. So can you tell me what sort of relationship you and the others have with Oubai-san? He isn't the sort to just make friends, I've talked to his father, he never mentioned friends and it appears that Oubai-san talks with his father about school and relations he has there. Your little group wasn't mentioned."

Was this cop trying to threaten her... with Misaki? Did she even have a warrant to detain Misaki? She looked back up to Mokoto, looking just as unimpressed as ever. Did they really know this little? This was a farce. Throwing in idle threats was just making her angry.

"Ma'am, apparently, we're all of interest to you, so I don't care one way or another if you question Misaki-chan, since I'm sure you meant to, anyway. Second of all, what does it matter that he's 'not the type' to just make friends? You're calling us down because you've seen us all together- so what exactly are you getting at? Are you suggesting we coerced him into hanging out with us for some inexplicable reason?"

She folded her arms across her chest and one leg over the other, leaning back in her chair.

"Our little group wasn't mentioned? Go check the reservation book at the Oubai family's ryotei - you'll find our names. He invited us. Therefore, his father must know about us."

Mokoto stared directly at Kiriko as she spoke in a calm even tone. "Ikeda-san. I did not show you this picture for no reason, I showed it to you to ask you about the various relationships between the corrisponding people. Sato Kei and Oubai san were seen in the company of your fellow classmate, both within days before both vanished. One died the other apparently ran away from home. What I'm trying to figure out is why one is dead, and the other left a home that he clearly cares about. Unless he was helped by other people."

She smiled, "So I heard, and I intend to check. It wouldn't suprise me if one student helped another avoid issues. If you do know anything about Oubai's actions it would be wise of you to talk about them. Right now it seems suspect that you're becoming so defensive over this."

"Suspect?"

The calm on her face was finally broken. The dark-haired girl unfolded her arms again, leaning forward a little in her chair, her tone suddenly unpleasant and accusatory.

"It's not suspect at all, officer. You've called me out of class - while I was doing a presentation, no less - to ask me all of these inane questions. Aoi Misaki was seen in the vicinity of both Sato-san and Oubai-san? So what? So was half the bloody school. You could probably say the same about some of the owners at Noodle Alley, have you questioned them as well?"

She stared hard at Mokoto. She knew she shouldn't be speaking to her elders that way, much less the police, but she couldn't help it. This was too frustrating.

"I want to help with this investigation, really, but as it is I don't think this is going anywhere. You have no better leads to follow than questioning a group of kids who hang out together because our group dynamics seem a little weird? It's not only pathetic - it's insulting. Are you trying to procure false confessions? Are you trying to blame us? Trip us into saying something incriminating so you don't have to admit that the case looks fishy and you've got nothing to go on?"

Her manicured nails dug into the arm of the chair as she tried to suppress her fury at the thought of what she was saying. Surely, that's what they were getting at. As though they could know anything abotu the Persona world. As though any normal police officer would find a group of kids suspicious. That was the subject of gossip and school drama, not police investigations. Why would this officer have come here except to waste time? Either it was rearranging the proverbial desk chairs to make it look as though something was being done or trying to pick out innocent kids and scare them. Even supposing they had helped Oubai-san run away, that wasn't illegal, right? How dare she treat it like they were assisting some criminal.

"Anyway, if you're not going to tell me what exactly you're driving at or what you're trying to find out, then I don't want to speak to you anymore, not without a lawyer present. I'm entitled to legal counsel if you're going to be accusing me of things, I believe. Or at least to have my parents present; I am a minor, you know."

"It is suspect when prior to this none of the students in your group had much, if anything, to do with one another. The fact is you and your friends are involved though means that I'm still trying to figure out. Oubai-san was seen at Noodle Alley two days after he had disappered. Sato-san was seen in various places around town days after the dorm reported him missing. Now suddenly one winds up dead after being gone for a breif period of time, while the other apparently has been in hiding. I want to know why it seems that he confids and hangs around all of you when, I have been informed by members of this staff that both students were loners and both have connections to clubs that your friends are involved in."

She crossed her arms, "Further more, Ikeda-san, the situation is looking more and more like a student, or students, may have been involved in the murder of Sato-san, and yes it's beening looked into as a murder due to the fact that he did not die from natural causes. There was no prior heart failure, it appeared that something on the outside may have caused his death. I have questioned the owners of Noodle Alley who saw Oubai-san after his apperence there, and quiet frankly it seems that you and your friends know a lot more then what you're telling me. If you feel you need a lawyer present then please, bring one down to the station."

Mokoto felt annoyed. This girl was trying to run around something. She knew something, there had to be more to this then just a boy ran away from home. "And for the record it is illigal to assist a minor in running away, it can be seen as kidnapping Ikeda-san."

Really, she was gobsmacked. It all came down to their group looking funny? Was this woman insane? And how on earth did she know they'd been hanging out, they'd only met a couple times publicly. It seemed like an invasion of her privacy besides being absolutely ridiculous.

"I doubt that," she answered dryly, getting to her feet. "But either way, I have nothing to worry about. This is unbelievable."

Kiriko turned towards the door, fuming, but paused with her hand on the handle.

"Oh, could I have your badge number, please?"

Mokoto folded her hands and looked at Kiriko seriously, "Do you really understand why I am asking these questions of you Ikeda-san? To be frank there was a murder here in your school, on school grounds, at night when the doors were secured. This ment that the killer had access to the school and may or may not have been inside the school at the time of the killing. Oubai-san matches the profile of Sato-san, I am trying to find out why it is that one boy is dead, and another happens to disapper from this town without a trace for several days then suddenly comes back with out any explination."

She sighed, "Futhermore, the exact nature of the death hasn't been conclusive, and it's a well known fact that Oubai-san, according to the teachers here, has only been recently seen with you and the others. I'm trying to catch a murder here, Ikeda-san, before he or she strikes again. There maybe corrilation between people that have been around both boys. We're looking into every possiblity, from a student that has issues about the boys behavior, to the possiblty of someone thinking that Sato-san or Oubai-san was too friendly with certain female students."

"The reason I am asking you about your relationship with Oubai-san, is because you also have fans here, some of which, I've observed, are not ones that like the idea of you hanging around with other boys who are not among them." Mokoto told her seriously. "Now, I would suggest sitting down and answering my questions. This is a serious matter Ikeda-san, I am not taking this lightly, nor should you. Did you even stop to think of the possiblity that one of your frinds might be targeted as well by this person?"

"Did you ever stop to think that your theory is insane, that you're chasing a bunch of kids without any motive without having even determined a cause of death, or that you've decided Sato-san was targeted by a serial killer without any evidence whatsoever?"

This time, Kiriko wrenched the door open, turning back to hold her hand out.

"Your badge number, please. This is so unprofessional."

Mokoto shook her head, "I have the right to refuse as an officer. Just as you have a right to refuse to be questioned further. However I'm not just jumping to conclusions, Ikeda-san. There's a suspect among you and I intend to find out the truth. I never said it was a serial killer, I said that there's the possiblity that the murder happened for a reason of jealosy or other matters."

"Actually, I don't think you do - if a member of the public, especially one that you're questioning, asks you for it, don't you legally have to give it to me?" Kiriko frowned. That's how she had always been told it worked. Maybe Mokoto was just lying to her.

"A suspect among us? This is just more pathetic by the minute."

With that, she left the room, slamming the door behind her. Outside the door, she rooted around in her back while issuing a warning to everyone still waiting to be uncooperative, then headed out to the parking lot to write down the plate numbers on the cop car that was parked there.

"765422341, that's my badge number," Mokoto wrote it down on a peice of paper and handed it to Kiriko before she left. Looking at the girl out the window she saw Kiriko looking for a car, then finally finding the motorcycle that Mokoto had ridden there instead.
