School Trip, Day Two. (THE GREAT OUTDOORS)

Who: EVERYONE (npcs welcome)
What: Hiking, Meeting (Major Arcana Only), Setting up Tents, Cooking, MYSTERY FOOD X, King's Game, Sleepn (Possible bear-wrestling)
Where: IN A WOOD
When: Late May
Why: We like camping.

Aomori-sensei was waiting outside the hotel when everyone was awake, tapping a foot impatiently and looking at his watch. Ishino-sensei seemed somewhat nervous. He'd snapped at her when she'd tried to speak to him. He was always a lot more patient with the students and she'd hoped that finally going on this trip would improve his mood. She shook her head and smiled. It was her fault her colleague had to deal with all the reporters and so she had no right to complain when he was in a mood like this.

Tent arrangements:

Boys
3: Reizo/Toru/Akiyama
3: Kanaye/Yuuto/Kou
4: Gendou/Keiichi/Shin

Girls
3: Toshimi/Maeko/Shiori
3: Kojima/Renju/Mitsuko
4: Kiriko/Emi/Masami
4: Noriko/Misaki/Tori/Kozue

KEIICHI WANDERS AWAY FROM TENT
[info]keiito
2009-07-30 04:55 am UTC (link)
Like Hell was Keiichi going to put up with Gendou and Shin after the day he'd had, with someone somehow screwing with his cooking, and Reizo being a gigantic jackass.

Nope, for once, Keiichi had had quite enough bullshit for one day. And that meant that he was going to break some rules.

And by break rules, he meant STAY OUT PAST CURFEW.

Creeping quietly through the forest, he wondered where everyone else was. Maybe he could find some of his friends, or something.

Speaking of Keiichi's friends, well someone who could maybe described as such, in some way, by someone who didn't know either of them that well, but speaking of those people Keiichi was about to meet one.

A suddenly clamped over Keiichi's mouth, and another wrapped around his chest and he was yanked just beyond the treeline into the woods. With the two of them hidden, Thomas put a finger to his mouth in a hush, pointing out toward the camp, moving back through the lit area they could see Aomori walking past. Once the teacher had gotten past Tom spoke quietly, but didn't look away from the camp.

"He's actually trying to sneak back to his tent unnoticed. Surprised you're wondering around."

For a moment, Keiichi thought he was about to be the victim of a kidnap-murder. Then he realized who had dragged him into the woods, and, well...the possibility still existed.

Then he looked up and saw the teacher walking by, and it was slightly more clear.

"I appreciate the heads up," a still rattled Ito replied, "but next time, you could have gone "psst, Keiichi!" rather than attempt to kidnap me and take me back to your private woodsy home."

Sarcasm wasn't one of his strong points, but it had been a long day for Keiichi and to say he was in a bad mood was one of those "understatement" things.

"So am I. The damned third years in my tent are almost as annoying as some members of the group, and after tonight...like Hell am I putting up with them. There's only two teachers. If I keep my senses up, I can dodge them."

He hoped so, anyway.

"If I had whispered anything he would have heard us. Also my tent isn't set up anywhere near here."

Tom's deadpan tone suggested that he either didn't get sarcasm, or he was a master of it. Tom scratched his chin.

"You're with Retsu and Matsumoto... Retsu can be problematic, and hard to control, but Matsumoto would probably keep to himself."

He looked back out toward the campsite.

"Ikeda took pains to keep hidden, Shirai was bossing around Ishinomori and another kid. And the other two groups of... our "friends" are fairly out in the open.

Part of me wishes Shirai would sneak out. Things would be easier if he was the killer, but even with a supernatural method of killing someone at his disposal he's still too sloppy. On the plus side, I think I explained out meeting to Sonozak well enough that she won't go looking. At least not until we draw attention to ourselves again which is almost inevitable."

Tom looked back toward Keiichi.

"As far as the teachers go, Aomori is both a problem, and an aide for you. Anytime he's near Ishino's tent he pays her a visit, so he's not really keeping an eye out for wandering students. But he's also trying not to be seen when he does, so he's harder to spot. Banno is walking so loud that he's almost warning anyone who wants to hide."

"They were playing the "we're third years!" card. Forget that. There are times I wish I could summon my Persona here, that would learn people right quick, even if I'd never actually do it..."

Keiichi's voice trailed off, and he shook his head as he listened to the other boy's explanation of the lay of the land.

"I don't think Shirai's the killer. He might be A killer, but if this is all being caused by a possible serial killer, I don't think he's it. A giant waste of life, yes, but not our killer."

In spite of himself, Keiichi chuckled. "Yeah, we do sort of suck at not attracting attention. I'm in Cooking Club with Sonozaki-san, though. If she pulls me aside after club I'll know how well everything's gone."

"I don't think he is either. We would have figured it out by now. Though one way or another Reizo Shirai will pay for his crimes."

Tom stood form his crouch, and started to move quietly through the trees.

"Though if there is a killer, I expect them to strike. He has the whole school population here to pick from. No doors to keep them out. Which is why you need to be *extremely* careful. Walking around makes you an easy target. And so far he's picked two persona users, maybe three depending on Sato. If he is one, and knows about us, that makes you an even better target. It's why I'm keeping an eye on the rest of your team."

Tom nodded out toward where the tents were.

"I can't keep eyes on them at all times though which is why you walking around is probably a good thing, but really be cautious. If anything happened to you..."

Tom suddenly got quiet, and put a hand out as he saw Masami walking toward them.

Night was a perfect time for tea. Well, to Masami ANY time was a perfect time for tea, but as it had turned out, what should have been a relaxing nature walk earlier had ended up with her, Shiori, and Keiichi escorting a somehow-injured Kanaye back to Ishino-sensei, and her chance to peacefully drink tea had thus been ruined.

All this combined with Masami's two tentmates led to her ignoring the curfew and going on a new nature walk with her travel cup full of a new batch of green tea. Masami wasn't overly concerned with getting caught; with a kendo competition coming up there was no way the school would deliver any overly-harsh punishments the star of the team.

Of course, that didn't mean that Masami wasn't going to try to avoid getting caught. It was still better to avoid any potential trouble, plus with only two teachers out it wouldn't be too hard to keep her secret rule-breaking just that.

So it was that Masami wandered about, quietly sipping her tea. I really could get used to something like this, she thought, but once again this thought only jinxed her as she had to duck into the underbrush to avoid Aomori-sensei. It was then she barely heard an irritated voice - it sounded familiar, but she couldn't quite place it, likely because the speaker was attempting to keep quiet despite obviously being exasperated.

Masami should have known better than to head toward the voice, given what had happened earlier, but her curiosity got the better of her once again, and in the dark she only just barely managed to avoid stumbling right into Keiichi's back.

"Eh... Ito-san? And Sagaki-senpai? You two are also out?" she whispered.

Keiichi's mouth closed immediately at the sound of another voice. For a moment, he was afraid of getting caught, until he realized the voice wasn't a teacher.

"Yes, Sakuraba-san," Keiichi replied, quietly. "My tent's not especially conducive to getting sleep in, between our glorious Student Council President and the kid who smokes like a chimney. Nothing better to do, and our teachers aren't...the smartest things walking the Earth, so I figure I'll wander until morning."

Ito-san shot Tom a look that said "we'll talk later." If he wasn't dreaming, he'd have thought Tom sounded...genuinely concerned about him? Odd, that.

"What brings you to this lovely array of bushes, anyway," Keiichi asked, trying to make some kind of small talk with the other girl. He didn't know her well at all, save by reputation, impressive as it was.

"I was just looking for a nice quiet place to enjoy some tea. I have Ikeda-san and the middle-schooler Emi in my tent, so it's not exactly a relaxing environment... I guess that means we've both been driven out by our tentmates," Masami replied, taking a sip of tea afterwards.

Masami didn't have much else to say on the topic, so she decided to move the small talk in a different direction. "We didn't get to talk much earlier because of that whole issue with Satou-senpai. I've seen kendo injuries that were less severe..." Masami paused to sip some more tea, then suddenly realized her bad manners.

"...Oh! My apologies. Would you like some tea?" Masami asked, offering her travel cup to Keiichi.

"I luckily have no tent mates." Tom said, trying this whole friendly approach he'd read about.

"My parents didn't let me go on the school trip, I had family obligations. But I talked my dad into driving me out here to say hello to my friends."

He laughed a bit.

"And maybe help them set up some tents."

He waved his hand when the girl offered him some tea.

"No thank you, Sakuraba-san." Ito mentioning her name meant Tom had a reputation to put the face to, and that meant he could immediately begin assessing her.

"No thank you on the tea front," Keiichi replied, "but thank you for the offer."

She was...oddly formal. The school was full of kids from a wealthy background, but most of them didn't really carry themselves like it.

"The middle schooler's got more of an an attitude than most high schoolers, from what I've been told," he continued. "Pretty impressive in its own way. Though...I am sort of surprised. Ikeda-san's usually pretty quiet and to herself. Thought you two might get along."

Keiichi offered a shrug. "Going to keep moving though, I think. Less likely to get caught if I travel alone. Sakuraba-san, Sagakisan, I'll see you two in a bit."

Part of him just wanted to get out before the kendo girl realized that he hadn't at all discussed Satou-senpai.

The other part was amused at leaving Thomas to deal with a girl, and so off he went.

Tom turned toward Masami and let out a breath.

"I didn't know you were there when Satou got hurt. He kind of brought it on himself I'm afraid. When you just chase after every girl without looking where you're running, bound to trip face first into a tree."

He shrugged, and looked at her curiously.

"So... you're the Captain of the Kendo club?"

"I'm not the captain of the kendo team. They wanted to make me captain but I turned it down. Most of the team, even the actual captain and the coach, treat me like I am the captain anyway," Masami answered, taking a break to sip some more tea. She then stopped. Something Tom had said drew her attention away from the small talk.

Masami wasn't sure she bought Tom's(and Maeko's) explanation about the incident with Kanaye earlier. After all, she had seen kendo injuries that were far less severe, and kendoka were deliberately attacking each other with bamboo swords. To be fair, shinai were meant to try to reduce damage to others, but still...

Maybe she was overthinking it, but she had to ask. "Do you mind if I ask a question? What really happened to Satou-senpai?"

Tom put on his best confused face.

"I'm sorry Sakuraba-san, I don't understand the question. Satou-san was running in the woods fill tilt through the woods. He wanted to talk to one of the girls... I don't know who, but that's Satou for you.
He tripped and fell against a tree, and scratched his face, that's... what really happened."

He reached up his hand and scratched his head.

Tom seemed quite confused by Masami's question; if he was acting, he was doing a very good job of it. Masami decided to let the issue drop, figuring that she probably was just thinking too much anyway.

"My apologies if I was asking after nothing, senpai," Masami said, "Anyway, you said you weren't supposed to be here because of your family? I was wondering, you don't look fully Japanese. What's your other half?"

She took another quick sip of her tea. "Ah! I just remembered, thanks for your help with the tent earlier. Ikeda-san kind of dumped the job on me...""

"My Mother is from America."

Tom said, almost dismissively. He eyed her assessing her capabilities. Tom had heard a great deal about her skill and was almost curious to test it.

"Ikeda can... be like that. Despite what Ito said it's easy for her to for her to take charge."

Masami got the sense that Tom didn't really like talking about himself, so she decided not to press further. "I don't dislike Ikeda-san, but I got the impression that she's pretty blunt..." Masami said before taking another sip of her tea. To her dismay, she was running pretty low, but at least she was getting a generally quiet and relaxing time to drink it.

"Ito-san seems like a nice guy, but he sounded kind of annoyed earlier. Did he have a bad day? ...Oh, sorry if I'm asking too many questions. I don't really know too many people outside of the kendo team..."

"She is."

He crossed his arms, raised his eyes as he thought, then shrugged.

"Ito has been like that all the times I've seen him, I think he gets rattled easily. I don't mind *too* many questions.
So I have heard a great deal about your skills as a swordswoman."

"I guess I'm OK at it," Masami said demurely. Anyone who knew her reputation would be able to tell that she was just being humble; someone didn't have an undefeated record just by being 'OK.' She stopped to think for a moment(and, of course, to drink more of her rapidly-dwindling supply of tea).

"Why? Do you do kendo or something too, senpai?"

Tom cocked his head to the side and shrugged.

"I guess or something would be an accurate way to describe it."

As usual, Tom avoided giving away too many details about himself, but he was beginning to get a feel for this girl.

"Just Okay then? That hardly sounds like the way you would describe an undefeated warrior."

Masami noticed that Tom wasn't exactly very forthcoming with information about herself, but she figured it wasn't anything major. She finished the last of her tea before she spoke again.

"My teammates like to say I'm a genius or something, but I don't really..." she trailed off, not sure exactly what Tom was trying to get at.

"So you left your tent, I know where you're coming from, where are you headed?"

Any other girl would have probably placed Tom's offer as a romantic one, but Masami's reply gave no hint that she even considered that a possible motive.

"I can make it back on my own and I think it would be easier for one person to avoid the teachers than for two, so you really don't have to," Masami replied with the same smile still on her face.
