Who: Jay and Peter
Where: New Orleans City Park Fireworks
When: Sunday July 4, 2010 9 pm
What: Jay tries to prey upon Peter, Peter turns out to be more hilarious than nom nom-worthy.
The fourth of July meant one thing for Jay. She could go out in public at night and not worry about that stupid curfew. She only had days until her birthday and until she had to move out of the Inmans, and until then it was sneaking around and trying not to get caught. But when you were used to having an extremely active lifestyle and then you went to doing nothing, sneaking out was the least you could do. It was also a strong motivator when you knew if you didn't you were far more likely to attack one of your family members. Not that she exactly had a family, but still, she'd never be alright with attacking one of her foster siblings because she was too slack to go out and hunt on her own. They couldn't know what was going on because then they'd all look at her differently and she wasn't ready for that. They wouldn't understand. She hardly understood, but she was taking it all in stride. They on the other hand, would not. But that night she had been far too excited about actually being able to leave the house when she could be out of the house that she forgot all about grabbing a snack or anything before heading to the fireworks.
Which led her to be one very hungry young vampire surrounded by tons of potential snacks. She didn't normally look at people like they were snacks. In fact, she had been thinking a lot about what Max had said about only taking from the people who deserved it. Yeah, well hunting serial killers and thieves was one thing when you were full but it was completely different when you were hungry because you hadn't left the house in a couple of days. She was at the park, so in theory she could have left everyone and gone and searched for a deer or something, but it would have been significantly harder with all of the noises from the fireworks and all of the people out and about. She knew the time would come when she went after her first human victim and she was having a really hard time telling herself to it being no to right now. So she tried her best to separate herself from the big crowd of people. If no one was around, then no one would be hers to take a bite out of, right?
Wrong. Even the further away she got away from the fireworks display there were still people mingling around. Why couldn't they just be normal and go watch the fireworks? Why couldn't she enjoy being around more than a couple of people for the first time since the zombies? Freaking vampirism ruining her usual social schedule! They never told you about that crap in those vampire movies! She was going to just have to take the plunge. Pick one and go for it. The first person who caught her eye... She still couldn't shake the nagging feeling that Max was going to pop out of nowhere and tell her not to do it, but she didn't need a conscience right now. She needed breakfast. And look at that! Short guy with awesome wings was taking the center of her attention at the moment, looked like she had her target in mind.
