Action Scene: Showdown between Ginny and Harry
Ginny gripped the railing of the second floor of Flourish & Botts, waiting for Harry to walk through the door.

She was nervous.

They didn't part on good terms and she didn't have a clue what Harry wanted to talk to her about. She only hoped he wasn't going to break her heart again. Ginny did not think she could bear it.

Harry entered the bookstore in a rush. He wasn't late, yet, but he was coming dangerously close to being so. He didn't need Ginny's added anger.

He already had enough of it already.

The shop was fairly empty, but it didn't surprise him. It was the middle of summer and a weekday and people did work on occasion. A lot of things had to be done still and far too much healing, but everyone still got up and many still went to work.

"Ginny?" he called into the silent bookshop.

"I'm here," she called out as she waved to him from upstairs. Ginny turned away from the railing, trying not to let a wistful expression remain on her face. Harry looked good.

Harry gaze shot up to the second floor, and he grinned crookedly before taking to the stairs. He wasn't sure what he was going to say, only that he needed to see her again.

He hadn't meant to hurt her, he truly hadn't, especially not in the way he had.

He had deserved that slap, no matter how sore his cheek or how bruised his ego had been for the rest of that night.

"Hey."

"Hi." Ginny smiled as she struggled not to seem anything less than bubbly. "How have you been? It's been awhile since I've seen you."

"I've been busy. I plan on taking my NEWTs soon," Harry shrugged and leaned against the railing next to her. He'd hug her, but he'd get punched, so he kept his distance.

"Ah. Does that mean you're coming back to Hogwarts in September?" She half hoped he wouldn't. It would be uncomfortable for her to see Harry day in and day out in her classes, no matter what happened today.

"No," Harry said with a half smile. "I'm hoping I'll be able to go to the Ministry once it's restructured and take them there."

"Oh." Ginny tucked her hands behind her back, unsure what to say. "You wanted to talk face to face. So talk."

"I did," Harry agreed, gripping the railing with both his hands. He gazed down at the other patrons on the other floor and frowned. "I'm sorry. You're right. You're always right, Ginny, and I hurt you this time. And I'm so fucking sorry for it."

Ginny's mouth dropped open and she turned away. She didn't quite believe the words she told Harry at the Malfoy dinner, because she didn't want them to be in true in any way, shape, or form, but here was Harry telling her it was all true. He was breaking her heart.

"But how?" she managed to say. "You never gave any inkling of liking blokes that way. And it's Snape. He's not even attractive like Malfoy."

"I'm sure Malfoy feels the same way," Harry joked lamely, and almost instantly wished he hadn't. "I don't know what to tell you, Ginny. I don't."

"Malfoy agrees with me?" It was a strange thought and it was probably a once in a lifetime occurrence. Ginny shook her head. "And what am I supposed to tell you, Harry? I can't forgive you for this. I just can't. Maybe if it was anyone else, but not Snape."

"So if I had said it was Malfoy it wouldn't have been as bad?" Harry's eyebrows shot straight to his hairline at that thought.

"If you said it was Malfoy, I would have socked you and cursed you with a Bat Bogey, but I would have been okay with it in the end. He's a prat, but at least he's not bad to look at. It's like you dating Padma or Parvati or Cho. They're pretty and they at least are nice. Snape isn't any of those things." Ginny shuddered to prove a point, ignoring the loud thumping of her heart.

"It doesn't make it any less true though," Harry pointed out, smarting from her response. He'd never thought of her as shallow before, and if felt like just one more shattered illusion too many for one day. He really should have spaced these meetings apart.

Ginny gave Harry a look. "I thought I knew you, Harry. I've known you since I was ten years old and I feel like I am seeing you for the first time. J-just tell me why him. What did I do to make you turn away to him?"

Harry grasped her arm and scowled. "Ginny, you did nothing, nothing to make me turn to him. Hell, I don't even know why I want him so fucking badly, all I know is I do, and he's probably just stringing me along like this is some huge game and all I know is I haven't felt anything but love for you as a little sister since I went camping in a godawful tent with your brother and Hermione."

Harry released her and sank down onto a small pile of books. "I don't want you to hate me, Ginny. I really don't but I don't blame you if you do."

Ginny looked stricken as Harry continued to talk. Her Harry wanted Snape so fucking badly and he thought of her as a little sister! It hurt, it hurt so badly that Ginny wanted to cry.

Her lip trembled as she sank to her knees in front of him. "I can't hate you, Harry. I've loved you for so long that I don't think I can ever stop." She could feel tears welling up and she stared at the floor so Harry couldn't see them. "I think you're making a big mistake, and I'm sorry for feeling that way, but I want you happy."

Harry tipped her chin up and pressed a kiss to her forehead. He hated it when she cried, he hated when most women in his life cried when he got right down to it. He never knew how to make them feel better and usually ended up sticking his foot in further. "I'm sorry, I really, really am."

Ginny jerked away from Harry. She couldn't bear the thought of him pitying her. It was worse than when he ignored her in the Chamber of Secrets years ago. "I-I'm sorry too. I have to go."

Ginny rose to her feet and hurried away before her tears could fall.
