Action Scene: Sirius goes to retrieve Remus

Sirius stood on the doorstep to the house he had not been to in years. He was going to see Remus again and his heart hammered in his chest. Memories of their last night together played across his mind but he pushed them back and told himself he was here for Remus and to help him with his change only. He couldn't give away a thing about what had happened; he had to protect Remus. He eyed the place warily and took a deep breath as he lifted a hand to knock on the heavy wooden door, wondering who would answer and hoping against hope that it would be Remus.

	"I'm sure this is a great inconvenience for you," Remus smiled into Sirius's shoulder. He gripped Sirius's back and breathed in deeply, wanting to fill his lungs with this smell and this feeling and this moment. Gods, how much he wanted to hold onto it forever. Sirius chuckled and held onto Remus. He closed his eyes and pushed James's words about living in the past out of his mind. He told himself he wasn't, that Remus was here now but he still had to return him to Teddy and her.

He turned his head, pressing his lips to Remus's neck then breathed in his scent. "I know," he said softly. "But they are and we'll have to deal with them this way for now."

	Remus felt himself shudder at the mention of that horrible black curtain. "Nothing's been right since," he said quietly. Something inside him flared up in anger, or saddness, or regret... he wasn't sure what to call it, but he knew in that moment that things couldn't go on this way. Sirius took a deep breath. James had made some sense when he'd yelled at him and he'd thought about the things James had said. He had no place to go right now, other than Hogwarts and that was no place for a child, especially not the shape it was in now. No means of support to help out his Moony and little Teddy if Remus did something rash. Not that Remus had ever done so, but one never knew when someone was desperate. He knew that feeling well.

Sirius cupped Remus's face and looked at him. "Remus, don't do anything you'll regret. When the time's right, an opportunity will present itself and things will fall into place for us."

Sirius was right, of course. Remus had said before that he couldn't leave Tonks now, and it was true. This was not the time; it wouldn't be fair to her or to his son, and if nothing else, Remus knew he couldn't let down Teddy. He laughed bitterly. "There's that rationality again. Trust you to do that, Padfoot. All those years at Hogwarts I tried to make you act like an adult, and when I finally want to do the rash, immature thing, you become the voice of reason." He covered Sirius's hands. "I'm just so tired of waiting."

	"It only took several years and death to sink in Moony," Sirius chuckled. He stroked Remus's cheeks with his thumbs and smiled tiredly. "Let's get you home so you can finish resting up. Remus managed a smile as he followed Sirius's advice and imagined his smiling little boy, giggling and changing his hair colour while Remus bathed him, wrapping his arms around Remus's neck before his nap and murmering sleepily. "He is, isn't he? I suppose we should get back before my wife decides to try changing him and ends up in tears clutching a bottle again," he paused and gave Sirius another short kiss. "I'm really glad you got to meet him, Sirius." I thought it could never happen.

Sirius frowned but nodded as he pressed his mouth to Remus's once more. He wrapped his arms around Remus, pulling him close and closed his eyes. "Ready?"

He Apparated them to the front steps of Remus's home then stepped away from Remus to a more appropriate distance, regretting the lost of body contact immediately. "You all right?" He ran his hand up and down Remus's back gently.

Remus nodded. He was tired and a little sore, and he wasn't quite ready or willing to leave Sirius just yet, but he did want to see his son, and lying in bed for a while seemed like a great idea. "I'm fine. And I know you're just going to say 'of course' and 'it was no trouble,' but really, Sirius... thank you for last night. You have no idea how much it helps when you're there."
