Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Paige and Pete
What: Coming up for air, and lunch! And doggy care.
Where: Pete's trailer
When: Saturday Afternoon
Warnings: Shirtless guys, lots of flirting, fluff, doggy style (kisses, that is. From the DOG, you perverts)
Status: Incomplete

The lack of common sense in wanting to let the dog outside for the first time since early, early that morning while still being damp from an hour-long shower was not completely wasted on Pete as he made his way toward the door clad only in a pair of haphazardly adorned jeans, Aloysha practically clinging to his heels. He felt a little bad for having neglected the pooch for almost half the day but Al didn't seem to mind too much. No whining, no door scratching, or at least from what Pete had noticed. Taking his early thought into consideration, he transformed just before his hand found the door handle, the blast of cold air lost on him as the dog bounded past him into the snow, more happy to flop around it in than do his business apparently. It was only after he'd shut the door again and changed back that the last draft drifted along the floor, chilling up Pete's toes, drawing a Russian mutter of displeasure from his lips as he headed into the kitchen for the bag of dog food next to the fridge.

Even from the other side of the trailer he could hear movement in his bedroom area, where Paige was finishing up in the bathroom. The warm, likely still-steamy bathroom with its warm, comforting, toe-thawing water, and likely a still-partially nude girlfriend parading around. The word was strange to him, even not saying it out loud, but hadn't it been long enough avoiding it entirely? A year and a half, he could easily decide now, was way too long to be paranoid about offending other people over something that wasn't entirely their business to begin with. Not that it still wasn't Sam's business. He decided he wasn't going to think about it anymore, as associating his best friend with Paige in a familial sense seemed a little weird when put into context with the morning's activities. He also managed to note that getting more than an hour of sleep at some point later would probably be beneficial.

His cheeks had suitably tinted again, though not quite as much as normal, distracted by filling the dog bowl with Aloysha's lunch as he contemplated turning the mp3 stereo sitting on the counter on.

She caught him watching her out of the corner of her eye and felt herself going just a little bit red. When he spilled the kibble, she laughed, shaking her head. Her stomach growled, and she realized that Al wasn't the only one who needed food.

Paige grinned when he leaned in to smell her hair, turning her head slightly to look at him. Food. She needed food before she got sidetracked, even though she was pretty sure that she could survive easily without food for a while longer, so it wasn't really... no. Food.

"Omelet sounds good," she agreed, nodding. Nice and fast and easy and filling. She turned, looking up at him before admitting with a smile, "I haven't sniffed you, but you probably smell pretty good too."

She leaned up to kiss him, then turned back to the fridge to dig out the ingredients they needed. "How many eggs do you want?"

The words that came to mind for Pete when he thought of "omelet" weren't that far off from Paige's, though his mainly lingered on 'easy' and 'fast'. That was greatly important, after all, especially when watching her prance around in his shirt only made him think of how fast he could get her out of it again.

He was distracted again, but this time he had nothing to drop embarrassingly all over the floor, so instead he simply straightened after happily returning the kiss and walked to the cupboards to pull dishes and pans and glasses out, not even sure if they needed them all. It was better to be safe than sorry, and whatever they didn't actually use he could just put back. Later. Much, much later.

"Do you want me to put some music on? Or a movie? Background noise of some species?" The sound from the television carried well enough into the kitchen, and for some reason he was sort of in the mood to hear "So Long and Thanks for All the Fish" again. The movie was still in the dvd player too. Unfinished, yet again. "Hmmm...we should use whatever I have in there, probably. I think they only have a few more days left, and I probably won't use them on my own before then."

When he walked to get things out of the cupboards, Paige couldn't help but watch. The man looked great without a shirt on, and she was grateful that he'd decided against wearing one, even though it was freezing cold outside. Finally forcing herself back to the task at hand, she loaded up her arms with the cheese and vegetables and turned to deposit them on the countertop.

"Um... sure," she replied, shrugging. Music, movie... it didn't particularly matter to her either way. Background noise was background noise, and she'd most likely be ignoring it for one reason or another. "You pick. Though I guess we could keep on 'watching' Hitchhiker's in twenty minute installments..."

Grabbing the eggs from the fridge, she moved away, nudging the door closed with her foot before starting in on making the omelets. Cracking the eggs into a bowl, she laughed. "At this rate, Lorna's never gonna get a turn with it. And I think I'm okay with that."

"Or just let it play in the background and ignore it like we always eventually do," he reasoned lightly, abandoning the kitchen for a brief moment to turn both the television and the dvd player on, coming back once more when the sound of the movie began filling the trailer as comfortable background noise.

"I'll get it to her eventually." He meant the promise, not that he had any idea of what the time frame would look like. Considering how distracting Paige was, even before the more recent adjustments to their relationship, he often wondered how they managed to get through any movies at all when the kids weren't around. It was easy when you wanted to keep a mob of youngsters distracted for as long as humanly possible.

The topic made him think about the night they'd played the game over the voice messaging system with Bobby and the others, and a lopsided grin crossed his face as he continued to set up. "So, I'm curious, in a bit of an ungentlemanly sort of way." He glanced over his shoulder for a second before returning his gaze to the dishes, continuing on thoughtfully. "The dream was about me, right?"

"She probably forgot all about it by now," Paige shrugged. It had been days since Lorna had asked about the DVD, and she'd undoubtedly had bigger fish to fry in that time, such as dealing with fallout from the whole massive freakout event.

Paige moved to start cutting up the vegetables as he went back to the dishes. She raised an eyebrow and looked up at him when he said that he had an ungentlemanly type of curiosity about something, but when he looked back down at what he was doing, she did the same, frowning slightly as the question was asked. She wasn't sure how exactly a question about a dream could be ungentlemanly, and she didn't remember telling him about any dreams... oh, except for that.

"Dreams," she corrected, turning slightly red as she continued with the vegetables. There was really no need to be embarrassed about it at all, and she cleared her throat before deadpanning, "And no, they were mostly about Jean-Paul. Sorry."

She grinned at him quickly, not quite able to keep a straight face for as long as she'd hoped she would be able to. "That last part might've been a lie."

"I'll remind her when we're done with it. I mean, when we're finished we probably won't watch it for a while again anyway." It wasn't as if he'd never seen it before, or would miss it too much if it was away from the trailer for a few days. Besides, if she was still upset about the other night chances were she'd want a distraction all the more anyway.

When the JP's name fell out of her mouth Pete's shoulders started to bounce, giving away the fact that he was laughing and trying to hide it. "I wouldn't doubt it though. Jean-Paul probably gets let in to all the best dreams." His brain tossed him a mental image of JP getting past the bouncer for someone's subconscious and walking right into their dreams, only for the next guy in line to be stopped before he got another step further.

He glanced back over his shoulder again just in time to catch Paige's grin, that alone drawing a laugh out of him. "I actually lied a few times during that game. I don't know if I should feel bad. They should warn people when they're going to ask interesting things." He glanced back at her, laughing sheepishly. "I don't think they were paying much attention to us either way though."

"Probably not," she agreed. She would have been good with just handing it over then. She'd seen it. She knew how it ended, so it wasn't like there was some big build up to finally finish the movie. Though it would be satisfying to actually get there eventually, at the rate they were going, Lorna could probably watch it a few times before they even neared the end.

"Yeah, they had their own... thing going on over there." She shrugged as she turned on the stove. It had been a little bit frustrating, knowing that most of the rest of the people in the game were actually sitting together. It had made it feel like they were just sitting in on someone else's fun, but in the end she was glad that they hadn't been there for all of that. Looking up from what she was doing, she raised an eyebrow at him. "You lied? What did you lie about?"

"Maybe we should see if we can find her her own copy at some point. By the time we're done it will be Christmas anyway. I'm sure one of the scouts can find a copy by then if we ask." He chuckled a little to himself, though he'd given JP a long enough list of 'things to keep an eye out for' already. So far he'd done a pretty good job. It seemingly helped when it apparently took little to no time to search buildings.

"I don't completely remember right now, but there were a few times I was either sort of in shock of the question, or embarrassed because of the company." There was a slight pause before he added. "I don't have dreams about Jean-Paul, though. Not those kind anyway. I think there was one where a few of us went to an amusement park and he won a giant smurf doll, but that was about it." He was actually sort of sure that it was Sam who had gotten the doll, but the facts were a little fuzzy at the moment.

Paige nodded in agreement. There were a few times during the game that she'd hesitated or just flat out not participated. It was a good thing that there weren't really people around to notice or call her out on it. Except for Pete... but it seemed as though he was too busy doing the same thing.

"I don't really have... sex dreams about Jean-Paul," she clarified, looking down at what she was doing and hoping that he wouldn't notice her turn just a tiny bit red at that word. "They're pretty much more in the Smurf category."

Or they would have been if most of her dreams in the past couple of years hadn't just been awful, horrible nightmares. She used the spatula to split the omelet into two pieces and slid them onto the plates. "If we do it again, I'll signal you when I'm lying. Not that we're probably going to do that again any time soon, considering..."

Playing the game was likely going to be considerably easier now that Pete knew pretty much where he and Paige stood, though that didn't mean he would still be willing to offer information to people other than her. He could learn to master some sort of "I'll tell you later" look, or codeword, or hand sign. Or....just tell her later.

He saw the redness and smiled again, shaking his head. "Sorry, I didn't mean to make it embarrassing. Not that I shouldn't have known the topic would be embarrassing, but I didn't mean for it to be awkward. And even if you did happen to have dreams about someone it's not that big of a deal. Your subconscious is just...funny. You'd be just as likely to have a dream about anyone, I suppose." He paused before adding. "I had a dream with Sting in it once. Obviously not a sex dream, but he and I talked about how Bono from U2 was a big jerk." There was another pause before he once again added. "I don't actually know if Bono is a jerk." He didn't know if the guy was still alive after everything that had happened, but present tense didn't hurt anyone.

"I'm sure things are fine by now, or will be. We'll be making spectacles of ourselves again in no time, don't worry. I vote we have some sort of code word. Like....'banana', or 'pumpernickel'. Or something that will likely be less food related once we eat." He was eying the omelet almost greedily. "That looks fantastic. It smells fantastic. And you should be warned that I'm thinking something along the lines of 'like omelet, like chef' but I won't actually say it because that's incredible cheesy." Another pause. "Like the omelet. I'm done now. I've filled my quota for the day for lame things that pop out of my mouth at random."

Paige tried to keep her smile from spreading too big as Pete apologized for making it embarrassing, then kept on rambling about how it was okay to have sex dreams about people and how he once had a non-sex dream about Bono from U2 being a Jerk... but it was a nearly impossible task. By the time he was talking about that and moving on to how they would soon be making spectacles of themselves again, she was outright grinning.

"Maybe something less obvious, too," she nodded. There was a good chance that someone would think it strange that one or both of them were replying to questions with the word pumpernickel. She snorted when he made two jokes that more than qualified as cheesy. Picking up the plates, she handed him the one with the bigger chunk of omelet, leaning up to kiss him before heading over to the table.

"It's still so early in the day, too," she shook her head sadly. "And I like the lame things that pop out of your mouth at random." A sound outside the trailer caught her attention and she moved to the window, pulling the blinds aside to peer out... at a giant ice pirate ship, complete with plank. Which Sam was walking, while Bobby and Lew and Annie stood on the deck, being piratical.

It looked like they were having fun, and she smiled. It was nice seeing them play. Not just the twins, but Sam and Bobby too. Staring for too long might get her noticed, though, and as she had no desire to have to get dressed again any time soon, she turned to go back to the table, smiling at Pete. "Sammy's walking the plank out there. I think I saw snow sharks."

"Hmmm, yeah. Don't want people to blow our cover by asking questions." The kiss paused the ranting, and he was glad for it, smiling as he followed her to sit down, carrying two glasses of milk. When she said how much she liked him ranting like that he laughed to himself a bit, his cheeks tinting a little as he sniffed at the air above breakfast. "Thank you for cooking."

When Paige's attention moved to the window, he watched her, fairly sure she would explain where the sound had come from without him having to follow her. He nearly choked on his first sip of water when she mentioned that Sam was wandering around outside, his eyes bugging a little as he looked back in the direction of the window, as if he could see over the distance and through the remainder of the blinds. "Sam's out there?" There was a pause before he added. "How long do you think he's been hanging around outside?"

Oh God, how loud had they been? He flushed even more brightly as he looked to the side, the gears turning as he actually tried to remember.

Paige hadn't even really thought that far. She'd been too hung up on the fact that the twins seemed to be having the time of their lives, and how good that was for them. Once Pete brought the question up, though, her eyes widened and she looked at him. Hopefully not too long.

"I... I didn't hear them before?" It wasn't much, but it was something, right? "I'm usually pretty good at hearing the twins' voices. Even from a distance." But maybe not when she was so very distracted.

Pete was bright red, and she chewed on her lip, glancing toward the bedroom. They'd been in the bathroom for a while. She shook her head. "I don't think they... heard anything. Not unless they were standin' right outside the trailer, and I... Sam ain't dumb. He wouldn't just be hanging around out there with the twins if he knew he might hear something he don't want to."

Pete started shoving omelet in his mouth, as if that would make everything better and all the doubt of their situation go away. At the very least it was occupying his mouth with something other than words, which was a start. After a few seconds of chewing, his expression perked up, his eyebrows arching as he looked down at his plate.

"Mm!" The murmur was enthusiastic, the chewing slowing a bit so he could enjoy the mass he currently had a little longer. It wasn't surprising that the omelet was so good, after all, Paige had cooked several times before and it was never a disappointment.

When he swallowed, he gathered the courage to get up and head to the window to peek out, though he brought the plate with him, picking off a piece of it with his fork on the way and offered it to her when he was close enough. His gaze followed hers to where the kids were playing and he smiled. "I don't think they'd notice anything."

She pulled her attention away from the piracy on the lawn to watch as Pete took a bite of the omelet. He seemed to like it, and she smiled, standing to go grab her own plate before another shout on the lawn made her turn to peek again. Pete was moving then, coming to join her at the window, and she opened her mouth to take the offered omelet, chewing thoughtfully as he looked out at the twins.

"Yeah, I don't think they would," she agreed, reaching to steal his fork and then steal some more of his food. Going back to grab hers from the table was an option, but it was so much easier to just eat what was right in front of her. "I don't think they did, either."

She broke off another piece of omelet and ate it, looking up at him as she chewed. Smiling, she shook her head. It had been at least a year and a half of wanting exactly what was happening just then. Maybe not omelets specifically, but the rest of it... in some ways, it was surreal that it was happening at all. She reached up to snag more from his plate, popping it into her mouth with a smile.

"Well, I'm certainly not going to ask." He scoffed a little then cleared his throat, waiting for the redness to die down once again before he took another bite of his omelet, which was apparently quickly becoming Paige's.

"Heeeeey." Pete offered as much of a whine as he could muster, his mouth hanging open to drag out the vowel as long as it would go before pursing his lips a bit at her. That lasted for all of two seconds before he leaned in to steal a kiss, then moved the plate to the other side of his body as if she couldn't reach it. Or as if he wouldn't let her have more if she looked like she wanted it. Still, his look dared her to do it, though bluffing was never his strong suit.

"Please don't," she requested, smiling as she stole another piece of omelet. Sharing was good, and when he whined about it, she rolled her eyes. The grin came back when he moved the plate to the other side of his body, and she shook her head, meeting his eyes.

"You don't want to play this game, Pete," she advised, not breaking eye contact. "I grew up with nine siblings. I'm gonna win." She nodded solemnly, breaking eye contact just long enough to check the position of the plate, before meeting his eyes again.

"No worries." He promised with a laugh, knowing that as awkward as having an internet conversation with Sam about wanting to date his sister had been awkward enough. He also easily recalled the fact that Sam didn't want details, and imagined that questioning him in regard to something like that certainly counted. Vague was good.

"I-" His mouth opened as if he had a retort, staring back at her before his eyebrows went up as if he realized that he really had nothing to say about it, or just that she was right and he was absolutely no match, and conceded, moving the plate back within reach. "Just remember this when you're more fueled than I am later." That was enough of a threat, he thought, looking a little smug about it as he plucked a mushroom off the plate and ate it.

She didn't break eye contact when he opened his mouth to reply. Paige could do the stare-down. In fact, it was one of her skills. It came in handy so very often in life, be it during school or at home... or especially now that she had to play mommy to the littles as often as she did. Pete finally realized that the game was over before it had really even begun, and she smiled as he brought the plate back around.

"I'll keep it in mind," she laughed, reaching for more of the omelet. Even if she did end up eating most of his, hers was still sitting over on the table. It would all even out eventually. And if either of them were still hungry, he had enough food in the trailer to more than take care of the problem. It was a non-issue just then. She chewed thoughtfully, tilting her head and smiling as she asked, "What exactly are you thinking I'd need to be fueled for?"

"Shoveling the roof." Pete replied without missing a beat, though he realized that didn't make much sense after he'd said it. It was the first thing to come to mind, and hadn't Paige said she liked it when he did that. Still, he looked sheepish and shook his head. "Yeah, I have no idea what that was, but I did notice that the number of kissmarks on the left side of your neck sort of outnumbers the ones on the right, and I thought that, as a good boyfriend, I should remedy that."

He nodded for a few seconds, and watched her as if he were gauging whether or not she was buying it, but knew it didn't really matter. "You know, so it matches."

Paige laughed at his response, hand going to her face to cover the laughter. Shoveling the roof. Of course, how could she have not remembered their plans to shovel the roof later? The laughter subsided as he continued, but her smile widened when he referred to himself as a good boyfriend. Pete was her boyfriend. Maybe sometime that thought would get old, but for then it was still definitely very new and very great. She bit down lightly on her lower lip as she considered his proposition.

"Y'know..." she reached for some more of the omelet before continuing, "I do this thing where I can just get rid of it all and even it out out that way. Blank slate." She waved vaguely at her neck before smiling again. "'Course that ain't nearly as much fun..."

Pete's eyes moved to her neck and stayed there for enough time that it was obvious the gears were turning. The gradual arch of his eyebrows made it even more apparent that the ideas forming were considerably less goofy and innocent as shoveling the roof, and a few seconds later he reinforced that fact by speaking.

"Well, you know..." His free hand moved to pluck lightly at her collar, as if inspecting his own handiwork. "I wouldn't mind starting from scratch. Second time's a charm." He looked thoughtful for a second. "Wait. Doesn't the saying say third time's a charm?" He sighed lightly, shrugging. "I guess this means we need to try two more times."

She continued to smile as he looked at her neck, apparently examining it... or maybe just enjoying his handiwork. When he spoke and reached for her collar, her eyes followed his hand, then went back up to his face. Her smile spread to a grin again when he corrected himself, and she nodded. It was definitely third time.

"Guess so," she sighed, reaching to tuck her hair back behind her ear. Snagging the last piece of omelet from his plate, she popped it into her mouth, waiting until she'd chewed and swallowed before asking, "So... clean slate. then?"
