Lorna was settled on the roof with a mug of cocoa in her hands waiting for Jubilee to do her thing. She'd set one of the cameras trained on the area, so anybody who didn't want to brave the snow and cold could watch from the camera room.

"Okay, they need to hurry the hell up," she said, even the slight green glow around her and Jubilee got brighter, along with the heat she was emanating. "I cannot keep this up forever."

Pete had set up the benches from the old picnic table he kept near his trailer during the warmer months, easily setting them up with one in each hand near his home before unloading a few lawn chairs he had leaning up near the back under a few tarps. It was weird to see them against the paleness of the snow, even in the dark, but if anything that made it easier to see where he was going.

He made a nice little theater area for at least himself and the Guthries, and perhaps a few other bodies if they wanted to hang out. The trailer conveniently blocked any stray wind so overall the night was pretty perfect for a fireworks show.

He hadn't asked if Paige was toting the rest of the crew along, but assumed the chances were pretty high that she was, making some extra hot water just in case, leaving the fixings for hot cocoa on his kitchen counter to be served out when needed. For some reason it wasn't even occurring to him that things were a little different now, mostly focusing on getting everything done before they were too late to watch.

He was inside for the moment pulling mugs out of the cupboard, the main door open, the screen shut to keep as much of the cold out as he could. Aloysha seemed to sense excitement in the air and had his nose poking against the glass, peering out into the darkness expectantly.

It hadn't taken any effort whatsoever to convince the littles that they wanted to go see fireworks, and once everyone was bundled up, Paige and Sam headed down with them to where Pete had been setting up some seats. It didn't hit her until after she'd brought it up to them that maybe she was supposed to go down alone, but Pete would understand. It was a rare opportunity to see the kids in genuine moments of happiness, and there was no way she was going to not bring them and give them that chance.

She was carrying Lew sideways by the time they made it down to the benches, and she gave him a kiss on the cheek before depositing him on a bench. The fireworks hadn't started yet, and Pete appeared to still be in his trailer. After getting the go-ahead from Sam, she left the others to settle into their seats and headed into the trailer, smiling at Al as she pulled the door open and cooing, "Hey, Al! How's it goin', buddy?"

She gave the dog a scratch before straightening up, making sure that the door closed behind her, and finally turned to look around the room, spotting Pete over in the kitchen. Smiling, she waved. "Hey."

Pete heard the kids even before Paige got anywhere near the door but didn't look up from what he was doing until he heard someone actually enter, glancing over his shoulder to see Paige. A smile crossed his face but he went back to what he was doing for the moment. The scent of cocoa filled his nostrils as he made his first mug, still not sure how many more he needed to add to that. At least he knew he had enough to serve everyone, as he'd done it several times during Guthrie-get-togethers already.

Al, of course, was happy to monopolize her for a few seconds, as if all his wishes had been answered, minus the fact that he wasn't outside yet. Still, there were people in the house now, which meant he was at least where part of the action was.

Pete looked over again in time to see the wave, nodding to her in greeting as his hands were occupied. "Hi, how many do we have out there? I heard little voices out there too." For some reason, even as he spoke, turning his eyes back to hot cocoa, his cheeks tinted a little bit, as if he was finally remembering the last hour or so. "Is Sam out there too?"

She started toward the kitchen, glancing over her shoulder. There was going to be a lot of cocoa to pass out, but it was nothing Pete wasn't used to. "We have all of them."

"Yeah, Sam's out there." She nodded, sitting on the edge of the window seat and clapping her hands, trying to get Al's attention as she watched Pete. "We rounded up the whole gang. Well, actually most of the gang was hanging around anyway so there wasn't a whole lot of real rounding that needed to be done."

"You need a hand with that?" She gestured toward the cocoa, not entirely sure how to go about addressing the issue that had been brought up on the journal. Or the non-issue, as it were. Stalling and rambling seemed like the best way to go.

Pete wasn't terribly surprised considering when the Guthries did anything it usually seemed to be either one or all of them, hardly much in the way of in between. At least with the kids there it would potentially make things a little less awkward, considering how much he'd acted like a nitwit with Sam. He reasoned that the guy was probably used to it by now if he'd picked up on his beyond-friendship fondness for Paige ages ago, as had been implied.

Al was more than happy for the attention, fishing a squeaky toy from beside the refrigerator, happily trotting back to Paige with it, planting his head on her leg while contently chewing.

Pete was glad he'd set the mugs out already, and worked on pouring cocoa into each one, then peered into the container of hot water to make sure there was enough inside. "Actually, yeah, there is something you can help me with if you want. Come see if this is going to be enough water or if I might need to heat up more?" He could tell already that there was more than enough, but that was hardly the point in getting Paige in closer proximity.

She pulled the chew toy from Al's mouth, patting him on the side of his head as she squeezed the toy, holding it up to toss it into the dining room. Playing fetch indoors probably wasn't a good idea, but as long as she didn't throw it near something breakable, it would probably be fine. As Al bounded after the toy, she stood up, tugging her gloves off and pocketing them as she headed over to check the water.

"Sure thing." She nodded as she tilted the container toward her a little bit so she could see inside better. "Looks fine to me. Unless there's more folks out there by now."

Pete felt a little flash of victory as he heard Paige moving toward him, clearing his throat a little as if that would help compose him for potentially anything story about how there was something else he needed for the cocoa, but by that time she was already close enough. With a lopsided grin he hooked an arm around her waist, tugging her lightly in and planted a kiss on on the side of her mouth, only for the fact that it was more convenient than moving her any more before she had time to react.

The grin stayed even after he finished, opening his mouth to say something only to be interrupted by an adolescent giggle coming from the proximity of the screen door. His attention moved in that direction, but he couldn't see past the darkness. Still, his call was amused. "Hey, no spying!"

Paige didn't know what she'd been expecting, but she was pretty sure that it wasn't that, and she didn't have time to do much more than raise her eyebrows as he did it. She was about to let him know that his aim was a little bit off when she heard something that sounded suspiciously like one of her sisters giggling just outside the door. She whipped her head in that direction, squinting to try to catch if it was Mel or Lizzie... or both.

"Some people," she muttered jokingly, shaking her head. Turning back to Pete, she raised an eyebrow suspiciously. "You knew exactly how much water you needed. Tricky."

"Those darn sneaky Guthries." Pete replied while feigning a sigh, stirring a cocoa to distract from the fact that now his earlobes were turning a bit of the same red as his cheeks. Smooching he'd intended, getting caught so early he hadn't. Oh well, it was bound to happen sooner or later, though it was still pretty soon to be...well....soon.

"Why, Paige Guthrie. To think that you would go and suggest a thing." He attempted as flat-faced as possible, and of course failed, the smile showing up again as he offered her a mug. "We can probably send them in to grab theirs."

"All of them. Just awful," she agreed, smiling up at him as he stirred cocoa, blush spreading across his face. It was adorable. She ignored the fact that she was blushing just a little bit too and laughed as she reached to stir one of the mugs he hadn't hit yet.

"I would and I did," she nodded, accepting the mug with a grin. She sipped the cocoa, nodding at he his suggestion. "Maybe grab them for Lew and Annie?"

"You know, I think I'm gonna have a hell of a time un-training myself to keep my mouth shut about some things. Like how cute it is when you're blushing." She grinned again before taking another sip of the cocoa.

Pete nodded, happy to play waiter for the two youngest, knowing how hot the liquid was even if he made an effort to make it easier to drink. That and they were the most likely to spill before they even got it out of the trailer.

"Oh, no no no, don't feel that you have to do any of that on my account....so I don't implode from embarrassment or anything." He went about stirring a few more of the hot chocolates before replying. "That would be a big....big mess." He couldn't think of any better excuses to prevent it, or any reason why he should really attempt to think of any, so instead he simply called out to the others waiting outside of the trailer. "Come and get it, Guthries!"

"I'll try to hold back," she assured him, nodding as she scooped up a couple of mugs for the twins. Truth be told, it had been a long enough time keeping it all to herself that she probably wouldn't have to worry about slipping up at all. She laughed when he yelled about the cocoa, backing toward the door with the mugs and suggesting, "You should just get a dinner bell. Ring it and we'll all come running."

She turned just in time to narrowly avoid colliding with Caro as she bounded in for some sugar and handed the twins' mugs out to Sam as Jeb ducked beneath their arms. She gave her older brother a smile before scooting out of Jay's way and heading back to wade through the crowd and grab her mug.

"But then I'd have to feed all of you dinner, and we both know how that would turn out. I'd rather not poison my favorite people." Pete replied with a firm nod. "Besides, once you start using the bell then everyone else will know that it means dinner and you'll end up feeding, and consequently poisoning, like....everyone." Cooking was somewhat famously not one of Pete's strong suits, not after he'd actually burned through a stainless steel pan a few years earlier by leaving it on the stove for too long. Boiling water was harder than it looked, though at least he'd perfected it enough to make hot drinks since then. That's what five years and a good teacher got you.

As soon as kids started to pour in Pete began handing them mugs. He offered Sam somewhat of a sheepish smile before grabbing the last cocoa for himself, taking a drink from it before he said something notably stupid, in person this time. When the kitchen had been vacated again he laughed. "Think we'll need any more water for seconds?"

Pete had a point, and she laughed as she juggled mugs and went to hand them out to Sam, who had already been on his way in to get cocoa for Annie and Lew. The twins seemed to be enjoying themselves, from what she was able to glimpse before her brothers went barreling through to grab some cocoa for themselves, thanking Pete before heading back out to watch the show.

She smiled and rolled her eyes at Lizzie and Mel as they brushed past, looking at her and giggling quietly. Even though they quickly disappeared through the door, she had a sneaking suspicion that they weren't going very far.

"Well, that depends," she took a sip of cocoa before continuing. "If you're actually asking, then no. I think seconds are a bad idea because they're just gonna be up all night with all that sugar. If you're just looking for excuses again, then yes. We definitely need more water."

Pete had a feeling that there were still people hanging out to see what was going to happen in the kitchen, so Pete looked back, calling out to the darkness. "Whoever's out there, could you bring Al out with you? I'm sure he'll want to be where all the action is."

The door opened a second later, and both Lizzie and Mel poked their heads in, calling to the pup who dashed after them, bounding out the door and down the few stairs onto the snow. The girls shrieking was enough of a warning that for the moment they were away from the door, and Pete took the opportunity to steal a proper kiss this time, pulling back before adding. "I'll put it in the microwave so we can just come back to it when people want more. I don't need to burn through another pan."

Paige wasn't exactly surprised when her sisters both popped in to call for the dog. She was absolutely positive that when she went back to her room to sleep, they'd both be asking her half a million questions, probably with Caro chiming in as well. It was something to look forward to, really. A sense of normalcy, no matter how much she had never really cared for those types of questions, even back home.

When the girls disappeared and Pete kissed her again, she smiled, leaning up and trying to ignore the fact that her face was turning ever so slightly red. She laughed at his suggestion, nodding. "It would be tragic if you did. You're gettin' better at boiling water without setting off smoke alarms."

"Did you want to go out there? Or..." She shrugged. Paige knew that they should go out, but there were things they needed to talk about and there were definitely alternate activities she could think of that she'd be just fine with doing, but given the fact that all eight of her siblings were there, probably with two of them already standing by the door again, most those activities probably weren't the best idea just then.

"I learned by removing the battery on the alarm before starting and putting it back when I was finished. It took a while, but I can do it now." He sounded notably proud of himself even though the statement itself was rather pathetic.

"The fireworks probably won't last too long." Pete reasoned, smiling to himself, having been convincing himself already that ditching them completely wouldn't have been very nice considering Jubilee was putting an effort into them. "We can come back inside after, or if it looks like they're taking a while we can come back in before they're done." Seeing some of them was better than missing all of them, wasn't it?

He went for his jacket, which he'd plopped onto the counter some time before, pulling it on, though didn't bother with any other winter gear other than his boots. He could handle the weather for a little while. "We could watch a movie or.....something." The last word obviously wasn't indicating that he couldn't think of anything else for them to do, but he was being mindful of potential eyes and ears. "Sound like a plan?"

"Probably not," she nodded. Jubilee couldn't keep it up forever... unless someone had given her sugar, in which case there was probably no telling how long she could go. "And I'd like to see at least part of them."

She watched him pull his coat on and then glanced toward the door, raising an eyebrow as she could have sworn she saw a blonde head moving far too close to the doorway for it to belong to somebody minding their own business.

"Movie or something sounds great," she nodded, grabbing both mugs and moving toward the door. Smiling, she raised her voice slightly and added, "Think I should announce that we're coming out of the trailer now and that Lizzie and Mel should hurry up and pretend they ain't standing right there?"

As she expected, there was a muffled shuffling of feet outside as the girls scurried back to their seats, and she smiled again at Pete. "So predictable."

Pete was laughing again as he moved past her to open the door, peering out at the motion in the darkness as the girls found seats for themselves. Idly he wondered if it was going to be just as difficult to avoid being spied on once they decided to break off from the rest of the group later. For as long as he'd muddled over the idea of them being together he imagined that the curiosity of the other Guthries was always going to be something that would need to be dealt with. That and generally sharing. Thankfully he'd integrated himself with them so well that maybe they wouldn't notice to much. He doubted it.

"After you," he chirped to Paige, holding the door open so she could pass through with the cocoa, feeling a little bad that part of him wished the fireworks would end as fast as possible.
