Background: Lee Jinki, born in Los Angeles, California, moved to New York after getting accepted to Columbia University. His high school career wasn't anything special; rather, it was somewhat boring and uneventful. His family has high hopes for his future, hoping for him to live out his life as a doctor, either as a surgeon or as a physician. His life as a high school student was filled with his head buried in a book, and constant studying and planning (which paid off, as he graduated at the top of his class), with little time to fool around. Naturally, it was safe to say that he didn't have a social life, or many friends, for that matter.
However, for those couple of people he did manage to become friends with (his "study-buddies," they joked), they teasingly called him "Onew," but most commonly "Dubu." (He can't really remember how that came to be, but:) Because they were such a close-knitted group, they, as a joke, decided to give each other code names. He had wanted a cool, "fresh," name, but, to his dismay, they called him Onew (not that the name wasn't "fresh," it just sounded weird) only because, at the time and to this day, the only "sophiscated" word he could say in Japanese was "new." ("Atarashii desu ka?" in a heavily-laden American (mixed with some Korean) accent). And the nickname "Dubu" came from his cheeks (somehow, it reminded his friends of tofu).
If there was anything more on his mind when he was eighteen, he wanted to leave home - get as far away from his family as he could (which sounds cruel, but after eighteen years of a constantly strict background, he needed to get away). When he got his acceptance letter to Columbia University in April, he couldn't have been happier. It was only a matter of months, and he was out of his home and in the city that never sleeps, New York, New York.
Not wanting to disappoint his family, he stayed true to their dream and plans to go into pre-med. However, while he is at Columbia University, he is majoring in Korean. (He is a first-generation American-born Korean in his family, and though his parents talked to him in their native language and he learned it when he was younger, in a moment of adolescent rebellion, refused to speak it and abruptly forgot everything he knew. That was one of the stupidest decisions of his life.) To get some outside experience for his medical future, he has a paid internship at Bellevue Hospital, working in the surgical department, and has been for about a year and a half.
When he first moved to New York, the bustling city took awhile to get accustomed to, and even after two years (he is dorming, but plans to move out soon), he still has yet to fully adapt to the lifestyle. Unfortunately, he still hasn't made that many friends in his area, what with his freshman and sophomore year filled with many required classes and not so much socializing. (Although he doesn't have much of a social life, he is very personable and amiable with his bright smiles and quirky personality. He just has yet to utilize those skills.)
Preferred RP Style: Anything - paragraph or *action,* AIM, MSN, IJ, it doesn't matter. Anything Else: I'm not too sure what type of assumption anyone will have of me if I say this, but, I was Lee Junki's mun from a while back. Yeah, I'm back. :D
