[23 Sep 2013|09:07am] destructionmods Characters: OPEN to ALL characters Setting: The Facility Ballroom, Saturday 8/31, 7pm to 3am Summary: Destruction Island's 4th Annual Anniversary Gala Event Ending the week long celebration of the opening of Destruction Island was the Anniversary Gala. A formal, black tie affair, the Facility Ballroom had been built years ago specifically for this event. Transformed into an elegant banquet room, complete with dinner, drinks and dancing. Swathed in red velvet, sparkling crystals and fine black and white china, the event was by far the most luxurious thing to take place on the island each year. As with all events, all residents and government members were not only invited, but heavily encouraged to attend. Tailored formal wear was provided by the government for everyone and anyone who wished to attend and tickets to the event were provided for free. For this evening only, musicians, wait staff, caterers and others were brought in from off the island so that no residents would be required to work during this time, freeing everyone to enjoy the evening completely. 47 comments|post comment

[22 Sep 2013|09:17pm] destructionmods Characters: OPEN to ALL characters Setting: The Beach, Friday 8/30, late afternoon to evening Summary: Resident Appreciation Celebration One in a series of many scheduled events, the Resident Appreciation Celebration was likely the most highly contested by those forced to live on Destruction Island. The name was likely a misnomer, considering most residents felt neither appreciated nor celebrated. Still, the event continued despite the ruse. It consisted of food vendors, alcohol, musicians and bonfires on the beach. Attendance was further encouraged by giving all non-essential employees the day off so that they may particpate. Others were offered considerable monetary rewards for offering their services to promote and/or work at the event. 29 comments|post comment

[22 Sep 2013|09:09pm] destructionmods Characters: OPEN to ALL characters Setting: The Marketplace, Thursday 8/29, morning through evening Summary: Annual Harvest Festival As the end of summer neared each year, the government sponsored a series of events on Destruction Island. Consisting of a week-long event schedule, government agents and officials and residents alike were encouraged (and often required) to participate in one of more of the celebratory events. The goal was to build morale amongst those employed by the government and to show the residents that the government was invested in their happiness and well-being. Whether or not this message came across clearly, or was believed, was rather subjective. Generally, however, the Harvest Festival tended to be a relatively neutral event. Sellers were encouraged to pedal their wares at 'sale' prices, their income to do so supplemented by a Harvest Bonus. Season goods arrived by boat days before and residents with applicable talents and abilities staged outdoor musical performances in the marketplace to attract residents. Seasonal and specilty foods were featured and most people on the island would at least stroll through the area to see how the event was unfolding. 44 comments|post comment
