Adelaide would be lying if she said the wink didn't worry her. She and Josie might not have known each other very well or for very long, but she was sure in that some instances, that wink would really mean trouble.
She smiled at the small mammal who had taken Josie's place on the floor next to her. With the hand that hand been nudged, she reached up to scratch lightly at the spot behind one of her ears, and even though she knew it was still technically the woman, she couldn't help reverting to the sort of baby-talk she always used with animals, small children and plants. "Hi there pretty lady," she cooed quietly. "Aren't you just gorgeous?"
