A New Day (open)
Dawn.
A bright new day, the Sun barely breaking the horizon as its rays reached out to warm the land As Re stumbled to his kitchen, he mused (as he did many mornings) about how grateful he was to be back. Many took it all for granted. The sun rose, the sun set, the sun rose...the cycle was endless to their minds. They never knew what perils he faced each night. While he was confident in his abilities, and those of the gods that joined him in his barque to protect him, he also knew not to underestimate the serpent. Apep was even older than he was, and his old adversary had many tricks.
But here he was, alive enough to enjoy at least one more day. That was how he looked at it- life, day by day, never knowing what the future might hold for him. Would tonight be the night he lost?
"This will never do. We know we'll be fine, why the sudden self-pity?" He reached into the fridge for a pitcher of tea.
"Some days are just like that. Get tired of it every once in a while," retrieving a glass.
"Bah. You'll be fine. You're always fine. You know his Name. Even if you didn't the others would never let him overpower you. Set would be there before you could blink," pouring.
Those that knew Re well knew these conversations with himself were commonplace. He turned to put the pitcher back in the fridge, closed the door, and then just stood there. There was something else he wanted, now what was it? He turned to look around the kitchen. Glass, tea poured, ice...oh. The ice.
"Just tired I guess," plink, plink, plink. Three cubes. Perfect.
"Might be a good day for a nap."
"Yup, maybe."
He took his tea out onto the porch, settling himself into the chair that was now nearly perfectly shaped to his own backside and took a sip of his tea.
"Looking good, though." He smiled up at the light bursting fully forth.
