Bast enjoyed hunting. There was something exhilarating about tracking something or somebody down, following the trail left to find the big prize. And it wasn't always something animate or tangible that she hunted, occasionally it was a treat she felt she deserved but could not immediately have. That was true in this case, though her target was definitely not inanimate.
