WILL [Nyx] [21 Oct 2008|08:52pm]
Slow-falling leaves went before him as he walked. The forest around his home in upstate New York wore bright fall shades by day. But here in the night all those colors had turned to silver and gray. It was as he preferred.

Time would show what good his conference with their wayward son had done. If any. But the Dark One's mind was now turned toward one creature bound to him in a way wholly different from the bonds he shared with his children. It had been long since he had seen his wife. The last time had been filled with silent recrimination. And Erebos understood. He knew what he had done. Banishing Phlegethon was not her choice; it was his. But done so publicly as it had been, she could only support his decision.

It did not mean she agreed.

It did not mean she condoned.

But she would support him. It was their vow to each other - to stand together in all things, even when the other did not agree. Phlegethon. Erebos did not allow himself to mourn the loss of their once-son. So doing would change the truth of the matter; the boy had already chosen his path. Erebos merely forced him to keep to his feet - and to keep their family far removed from the consequences of the boy's future choices. They had not seen the last of Phlegethon's rebellion. That much was certain.

Erebos stood in the center of a clearing spread over with leaves. Had he not given her enough time to herself to come to terms with his actions? Had he not given her enough time to find some modicum of peace with the decision regarding the river of flame? He was soon to find out.

"Nyx."

The word filled the deep and shuttered places in the world, on a frequency only capable of being heard by one set of ears. With arms that crossed over his chest, the Darkness waited.

Would she come?
