These afternoon receptions held on the verdant expanse of yard belonging to some impressive home or other were Apate’s least favorite sort of function. Something about being outside in the sunshine made people hesitant about making the sort of deals she excelled at brokering. It wasn’t as if the mortals had any clue what a nosey bastard Helios was, at least not consciously, but perhaps there remained some long-buried thread of remembrance of his tattle-tale ways. Because the wheeling and dealing that she would normally be doing at an indoor gathering, even one held in the afternoon, was completely lacking at this get-together.
( And the sorts of bargains she made at evening dinners would never happen at an event like this. )
