Patience had rarely been a word applied to Zeus. True, he could wait, when conditions warranted it. Wait for his wife to stop screaming accusations, so that his own words had more impact when he replied. Wait for his opponent to make a mistake, one that he could capitalize on and achieve his goals. Wait for gratification, because sometimes the delay made the results that much sweeter.
( But waiting for his daughter to be returned by the faithful Nike was wearing on his nerves. )

Waffles would have been nice. On any other day, Bast would have stuck around after waking up in Bes’ place, especially since he’d promised breakfast, and hung out for a while before going to find trouble. Probably with him in tow. But before she even opened her eyes, she knew her prediction had been right and she couldn’t put it off any longer.
( She was going to have to go see her mother. )
