The Prodigal Son (tag: Ninlil) [31 Mar 2008|11:03pm]
Takes place after This.
______________________________________________________________________

Nergal left his reunion with Ereshkigal feeling as he always did after see her: extremely happy and very much in love. She was so frustrating, beautiful, infuriating, charming, confusing, sexy, belligerent, alluring and feisty. How could he not love her as much as he did? He even thought he made some progress with her this time; she hadn’t tried to stab him with his own scimitar yet.

Maybe if he stayed nearby, he could get her to admit her true feelings. He felt like it was a good time for him to take a break from his war. It wouldn’t lose any momentum for a while and the Sebitti were there to make sure it kept going. This would actually be a good time for him not only to spend time with his wife, but also with the other women he loved.

He would drop in on his sister in due time, Nanshe would be happy to see him again. But first, he had a more important visit to make. It had been far too long since he had made the time to see his mother. Which was silly, he always enjoyed spending time with her. He felt terrible about neglecting her, but there were times when he just got so wrapped up in his work that he let everything else slip from his mind. He often forgot to check in with his mother, his sister and his wife.

But unlike Ereskigal, Ninlil always seemed to forgive his long absences, welcoming him home with open arms. Of course, he always bribed her with some of the best figs from Iraq. It never hurt to do what you needed to make sure to stay in the good graces of one of the few people that had any influence over you.

He knocked on the door of Ninlil’s house and walked in before getting a response. “Mother? Is this a good time for a visit?”
