One Good Turn (tag: Loki) [20 Mar 2008|06:24am]
Apate came home from the park in a much lighter frame of mind than when she’d left. And it was not only due to the fact that the young couple managed to scam a hefty sum out of the Midwestern tourists before the cops showed up. That had been a really nice boost of energy for her, better than a cup of coffee, but that wasn’t what put the smile on her face. She realized then that she’d had quite a bit of fun with Zelos.

Which was a little surprising, and something she’d have to watch. Just because she liked him was no reason to get all sentimental and soft. He wasn’t really going to be her friend, because she couldn’t trust him. The only one she ever came close to trusting was Dolos, and even then she couldn’t take her eye off him completely. He was sneaky and he cheated. Damn, he was something when he was being a shifty little bastard.

Zelos wasn’t nearly as crafty, and he had an honest streak that was going to let her walk all over him. How could you respect somebody that was going to be that easy to play? Though she did have to admit, the bet was a fun idea, and she was thoroughly looking forward to winning it. Just as she was going to appreciate having him escort her to the dinner in a few weeks.

Having a non-partisan companion on her arm would keep her options open to play both sides. Having an obviously strong young man beside her would keep others from trying to play her. Sometimes that worked to her advantage, but there were going to be too many wives at this charity thing to pull it off without complications. Apate did her best to plan for and mitigate any variables that she couldn’t manipulate directly. Zelos would be an indirect manipulation. Plus, he was rather good looking in a cocky sort of way. Though she really wanted him to stop calling her “auntie.” It was irritating. )

Out With the Old (narrative: open) [20 Mar 2008|08:22pm]

She couldn't face Thor. Not yet.

The talk with Loki had been necessary, and while it was meant to finally close the book on their history, it left a strange emptiness behind. If Thor saw her in this state, right after leaving the Trickster, he would be sure to know something was up. And she just wasn't sure she wanted him to know what that something was. For all his understanding and love, could he really accept her sitting in a cafe with the one who had claimed Sif's heart for so long?

She popped into Bilskirnir just long enough to drop off her samples from the furniture stores, then immediately left again. There was really only one place to go, a place Thor would recognize immediately. They had recently spent a truly memorable night here, on this particular beach. She walked for a bit, feeling the warm sand between her toes, the warm sun on her bare legs that were topped by a pair of tan belted shorts and a plain white cotton t-shirt.
