What's the skinny?
Who: Jack and Cameron
What: An interview
When: Tuesday, July 8th, Morning
Where: Her hospital room
Warnings: Jack's annoyance and inner cursing ;)

Cameron was thrilled. He'd somehow finagled his way past Jacqueline McCreary's father and into the room to see her. It only took a little waiting. Okay, a lot of waiting. Either way, he let himself into her room with a little knock of warning before pushing it open. She didn't look happy, laying there in that bed, annoyed. He almost wanted to smirk because she looked like she could break a glass with that aggravated look of hers.

"Hello, Ms. McCreery," he said. "My name is Cameron Louis. I'm with the Tribune," he explained. "I'm here on behalf of the paper, of course, to extend my deepest sympathies to you after the trauma you've experienced. We would also like to get your side of the story," he explained with a smile. He pulled up a chair without bothering to ask her. Before she could say anything, he let his eyes meet hers. "I spoke with your father outside. He said that you'd be more than happy to answer a few questions and give me a detailed account of what happened to you." If that didn't piss her off, he wasn't sure what would. No doubt the woman wasn't going to be happy about talking, but he always tried to do what he could to push buttons. If her father was guarding her, he was likely possessive and dominant. Which meant he ran things. His word was law and Cameron was going to use it to his advantage.

Of course he knew that she'd know he was lying. Still, he wasn't giving up that easily. He'd come out with some sort of statement at the very least. Even if it was just that she wouldn't give one and was uncooperative. Either way she wanted to play this, really.

He smirked a little. "Alright," he said. "You caught me, but you can't blame a guy for trying," he said. "And I didn't wait long. Only an hour. Maybe two." The smirk shifted into a smile and his eyes met hers. "Fact of the matter is, I want the true story. There's a lot of shit going around that is complete and utter nonsense. People are making up what they say happened, running around in a panic, and blaming you for a lot of things. I just want to know if you need any blame or if the news needs to take it somewhere else." He was about getting the story, of course, but like a good journalist, he was more about getting the truth. He wanted to know what had really happened, what had gone down, and how McCreary stood in the situation.

"So, if you can answer a few questions, that'd be great. If not, I can put you down as no comment and the readers can do what they want with that information. What'll it be?"

Jack's borderline hostile stare shifted to something slightly less aggressive as he went on. Not quite accepting, and definitely not friendly, but there were a few points being made that made sense. She even smirked a little when he wrapped up his proposal, now having a whole schpeil to go with the bold boundary-crossing attitude. She had to hand it to him- he was probably in the right field of work. That didn't mean she trusted him not to twist any words she gave him and toss her further under the bus.

"Tell me what you think happened," she finally offered, her brows arched high and expectant. "Then I'll tell you what you got wrong."

He watched her, tilting his head slightly as she seemed to give him a little bit of an in. Not quite an open door, but it was something. Just that crack that he needed to be able to squeeze in. That's what he'd been hoping for.

"Alright," he said. "Going off of the word on the street, there are a lot of different opinions. I wasn't there, so I can't really tell you which one I agree with, but I'm thinking that you weren't really to blame. There was a man in trouble, which has been verified by several choices. 911 calls, etc. Public records, of course. Some men, still unidentified men, came up to the ambulance, according to a few bystanders that I've spoken with. Your partner got in the way of that, probably just by being there. The rest is sort of fuzzy." He shrugged a little and shifted slightly so he could better look at her while still having his ipad where he could input anything she did decide to say.

"Literally," he said, shaking his head. "You shifted. My guess, protecting your partner. A lot of people are freaking out, though," he told the woman. "Turning it around like you're some rabid beast that was running rampant in the EMT services. The uprising has already started." It was going to turn ugly fast. He could already sense that much. It didn't take a scientist to know that the press was spinning it in all different directions. Opinion pieces were out there already about what had happened.

"So, how close to the truth am I, Ms. McCreary? You were just doing your job, weren't you?"

She knew he was putting his own spin on the version, even if slightly- anything to get her to cooperate with him. In a way, Jack could admire that, if only for the fact that it was so unapologetically Machiavellian. She didn't appreciate anyone attempting to manipulate her, but in this specific case?

There was possibly an advantage to it. For herself, and for the rest of the weres in the city.

"I was," she confirmed, watching him just as closely as he was watching her. "You missed the part about those unidentified men pulling guns- one had a barrel to my partner's head. They were gonna shoot him, and our patient." She paused, but her expression never changed.

"I did my job- and I didn't touch any of them. They saw me change and took off, shooting blind behind them. Which is how I ended up here."

As a journalist, his entire existence was putting his own spin on things, so she was right about that. Definitely right about that. He wanted her cooperation. It was better than going back empty handed. Anything to get her talking was the best option, after all.

When she started to talk about parts that he'd missed, he opened an app on his iPad and started jotting down the short hand version of what she said.

Men pulled guns
Partner's head
targeted partner & patient
didn't touch shooters
startled, fled scene shooting blind

With that written down, he looked up at her again. "So you were just doing your civil duty. Protecting and serving, in a sense. Good on you. Do you feel as though they were shooting at you because you were frightening to them, or because you're a werewolf?," he asked her. Perhaps both were valid reasons for them having shot the woman, but most would say the latter was the reason. That was why there was so much pandemonium. Werewolves shifting out of turn and all that.

Cameron didn't think it was really about her wolfdom at all, but about some scared gangbangers, but that was his opinion, not hers.

Jack shook her head and huffed a breath. Did it really matter whether they shot her because she interrupted their plans or because she was a werewolf? Not to Jack it didn't, but she was much more direct in her approach to everything.

"I'd guess both," she said, slightly disgusted. "These fuckers were ready to kill a man who was already one foot out the door, and an innocent man trying to help him. They probably would've shot both AJ and I point blank if I hadn't changed."

He expected a bit of a rise out of her. He couldn't blame her, really. If he put himself in the position, he'd be pretty disgusted too, he supposed. "So you're a hero?," he asked her, already assuming that half the audience of the Tribune would feel that way. The other half would feel like she'd let the cat out of the bag, or that she was a monster. "From my view point, looks like you saved a life and narrowly escaped with your own," he commented.

His eyes moved to hers again. "Would you go back and change any of your actions if you could?," he asked her. "And, for the record, do you feel like you should have told the public your status as a werewolf prior to this incident?" It was the question on everyone's mind, he was sure. That was the uproar. Werewolves existed, which had been out for a while now, but it was just coming to light that not only were they around, but they could blend in pretty well.

Jack didn't see herself as a hero, nor did she see herself as a monster (obviously).

"I was just doing my job- and being a decent person." Yes person, not human, not wolf. "And you're damn right I'd do it again. What does it matter if I'm a wolf? Did it matter to the several hundred lives I've saved in seven years of service? Does it matter more to the people screaming about it that me and my partner would've died human than the way it turned out?"

A decent person. Yes. That simple word person really told the whole story. She didn't think of herself as a wolf, or a human, or anything else save for a person.

"I don't think it matters, personally," he told her, jotting down a few more notes. "I think the lives you saved were saved wolf or otherwise," he shrugged. "And, I'm sure your partner is pretty damn glad you're a wolf right about now. I mean, he owes you his life, after all." At least from the sounds of it. She'd saved the man. Being a wolf had worked in her favor. Being a wolf had given her the ability to save her coworker's life.

"I don't want to keep you any longer," he told Jack. "I appreciate your time and your brutal honesty. And your service to this community," he added. "I should probably get going before your bodyguard comes back," he said, glancing towards the door and smirking a little. "Don't worry," he told her as he stood up. "Your side of the story deserves to be told, too."
