AFA War on Christmas Part 2

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]jarandhel)

The American Family Association's early War on Christmas campaign appears to be off to a quick start this year. This is the second email that I've gotten from them, and this time they're calling for a Boycott of Mrs Fields. Naturally, per their request to get it into the hands of as many people as possible, I've decided to forward it to where it might do the most good. ;-) Once again, they using propaganda which conflates "not offering items with Merry Christmas because they don't want to offend anyone" with "not minding if they offend Christians".

In a matter which is, of course, entirely unrelated I have decided to buy way more cookies from Mrs Fields this Holiday season than I normally would have. ;-)

Tis the Season

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]jarandhel)

Every year it seems that Christmas is marketed to us earlier. Halloween costumes are still on the shelves this year, and I have already seen Christmas trees only aisles away advertising the coming shopping season. And now another sign of the season is coming even earlier as well: the "War on Christmas". The American Family Association just sent this charming missive to its mailing list... )

A rather curious chain letter...

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]theogrin) A friend recently forwarded a chain letter to me which seems to have rather obvious dominionist overtones, not to mention a very large degree of rather disturbing references and speech patterns.  I figured I'd place it here, because it seems to be the sort of 'demonstration of Dominionism' that you guys might want to take a look at.

I realize that the entire article isn't necessarily an impression of such thought patterns, but it does carry with it a lot of the imagery that the 'Church and State are inextricably joined' mode of thought has...so, without further ado.  I've not added any bold or italics to the sections that I think are notable, but if there's any call for them, I'll edit the post.

So, yeah...I'm disturbed, frankly speaking.  I'm sure it may be an innocent letter, but it rings a lot of warning bells...any thoughts there?

Pagan prayer may draw God's wrath, says AFA.

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]shapeshft)

As a follow-up to the post on the anti-Hindu AFA action alert, the latest on this issue on the One News Now website is a fearmongering article claiming that Thursday's Senate prayer will "start the countdown to judgment". AFA spokesman Buddy Smith says that he hopes that senators will, "for conscience sake," choose not to enter the room until the prayers are over.

A general in God's patriotic army

Via Avedon Carol, a short portrait of one of the Dominion's little helpers - 'shock jock for Armageddon' and author Mike Evans:

' Evans' latest offering - 200 pages of text and 100 of assorted appendices - is relatively uncomplicated: Iran is the biggest threat to the United States and to peace in the Middle East, and it should be confronted militarily no later than the end of George W Bush's presidency. Under no circumstances should US troops be withdrawn from Iraq before the mission is accomplished - the mission being the disarming of Iran.

The US public has been dumbed down by the secular left and the liberal media. And God has been removed from the public square in the US, resulting in Christians being systematically "stripped" of their rights.

His prose is pugnacious, a style you might expect from a writer who claims that he is giving the US its "final wake-up call". In the book, and in its promotional materials, such terms as "appeasement", "secular humanist God-haters" and "pro-Islamic radical sympathizers" are tossed around as easily as if he were playing catch in the back yard...

Evans in essence agrees with the core group of neo-conservatives in the administration who were the architects of the war in Iraq and have more recently been advocating a robust response to Iran. He parts company with them, however, in that his analysis appears to be strictly based on his reading of the Bible and what he calls the relentless attack on Christians in the United States. '

This is what we face. This is how they think, what they want.
