The Wedge

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]squidflakes)

This may have been posted before, but I think it would warrent a repeat viewing.

This is a link to the Center for Renewal of Culture and Science's Mission Statement, called the Wedge Strategy. These are the same people who claim that Design Theory is pure science, and not dressed up creationism.

Interesting how they seem to want to use ID non-sense to discriminate against homosexuals. (see Section 5, item number 4, in their 5 Year Plan)

Please forgive me if this is not the place to put this but since there is a lot going on in Columbus reguarding World Harvest Church and I think that at least several people on here are from the Columbus area this seemed like a good idea.

Read this article right now.

Just stopped by my library tonight (LiveJournal won't work for me at home) and spotted the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine (singer Kanye West is on the cover). Because my time is limited here at the library (I only get a half-hour), I can't search down the online link, if there is one. But I strongly encourage you to pick up a copy of the magazine and read the article entitled "God's Senator: Inside The War Room of The Religious Right". It talks about Sam Brownback, a Dominionist who has presidential and theocratic ambitions. Some very, very horrifying reading there, as Brownback happily talks about, among other things, instituting the death penalty for people who disobey a theocratic government.

Women Sue Wal-Mart over Emergency Contraception

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]britzkrieg)

Mods, I hope this is appropriate. The article doesn't refer to dominionism directly, but Wal-Mart's motivations are certainly religious, no matter what the official statement says.

BOSTON - Backed by abortion rights groups, three Massachusetts women sued Wal-Mart on Wednesday, accusing the retail giant of violating a state regulation by failing to stock emergency contraception pills in its pharmacies.

The lawsuit, filed in state court, seeks to force the company to carry the morning-after pill in its 44 Wal-Marts and four Sam Club stores in Massachusetts. The plaintiffs argued that state policy requires pharmacies to provide all "commonly prescribed medicines."

Wal-Mart carries the morning-after pill in Illinois only, where it is required under state law, said Dan Fogleman, a spokesman for Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart.

Fogleman said the company "chooses not to carry many products for business reasons." He would not elaborate. But in a letter to a lawyer for the plaintiffs, a Wal-Mart attorney said the store chain does not regard the drug as "commonly prescribed."

CVS, the state's largest pharmacy chain, stocks the pill at all of its drugstores.
