Verichip Update

LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY [info]rev_erock)

This is flesh-crawlingly creepy. I get these updates in the e-mail from the verichip company regularly.... Get your tinfoil hats ready!

Hi Eric,

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything,
with prayer and supplication, present your
requests to God, and the peace of God, which
transends all understanding, will guard your
heart and mind in Christ Jesus."

That's from a book in the bible called Phililpians.
I wish that everytime I got worried, stressed
or uptight I remembered those verses. Unfortunately
I don't always remember them.
Philiplians is a book in the New Testament. It's
located right after Ephesians and before Galatians.

Philipians is one of my favorite books. It contains
so many uplifting and calming passages.

Chapter 1 verse 6 comes to mind along with Chapter
3 verses 13 thru 15.
Many people are concerned and worried about the
Verichip and how fast it's becoming a part of society.
Many wonder if someday they'll get forced to put a chip
of some sort in their arm, forehead, or hand.
If that's you, know that God promises us that we don't
have to worry. He wants us to trust and reach out to
Him during these times. Keeping scripture in our mind
is one way of doing that.

For instance, as you read in the verse above, God
promises to give us his peace when we reach out to
Him in prayer.

Reading, thinking about, and believing in that
verse would be a good example of reaching out and
trusting in God.

The amazing thing is that nothing else can promise
peace through worry and deliver it 100% of the time
like God can. Trust and see for yourself.

Enjoy the update below,

Verichip Update 6:

-Sydney Morning Herald Online said two scientists at
Warwick University in the United Kingdom have
microchips embedded under their skin, enabling them
to send emails by just thinking.

They say the process is still cumbersome but by willing
a cursor around a keyboard on a computer screen with
their mind, they can write and send emails.

-Joseph Krull, former intelligence officer and present
security expert for Virtual Corporation, recently
got "chipped".

Krull leads the information security practice of Virtual
Corporation, a consulting company that consults on
business continuity, information security and supply
chain management.

He's been a senior security executive at Telecom
Finland, Philips Electronics and Lucent Technologies
and was a senior intelligence and security officer with
the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency at American
embassies overseas from 1979 to 1996.

He has a specific medical condition -- there's a metal
plate under his eye. He has been told by doctors many
times that if he was incapacitated, doctors would
assume he had a head injury, and their first course of
action is to start drilling holes. If he has a chip
and a reader they can scan him.

There's a secure Web site where he -- and only he --
can change his data.

It's strictly self-service. If he can control what data
goes in and gets added and subtracted, he's fine. If
he had a health condition, for example, that might
deter employers, he wouldn't put it in the database.

But the minute it becomes mandatory or gets combined
with other data, the chip is coming out.

If you compromise a biometric feature, it's gone
forever, Joseph Krull says. "This is a replicable
biometric. You need three things to get to my
information: a reader, being within 2.5 inches of
my arm, and the password or PIN code for my database.

If managed correctly, it can be a great technology from
the security point of view," he adds.

-Two Malaysians have chips embedded in their arms.
Inforlexus Sdn Bhd directors Ham Guan Khai and Siauw
Ka Lung had the VeriChip implants, containing their
health data which can be accessed via a secure server
through a 16-digit identification number contained on
the chip.

-VeriChip Enhances Patient Wander App

VeriChip Corp. has added enhancements to its radio
frequency identification technology-based patient
wander system. Verichip corp acquired the RoamAlert
Wander Protection System when it purchased
eXI Wireless last month.

Since then, the company has added increased levels of
security to the system. Such improvements include real-
time location of patients, the ability to define containment areas for different
classes of patients,
and one-touch alerting. The system also now features
the ability to track equipment in addition to patients.

The enhanced version already is in use at various
nursing homes and assisted living care facilities. The
RoamAlert system requires patients to wear tags
embedded with RFID chips.

The chip transmits a serial number mapped to the tag
to an RFID receiver at their health care organization.

Providers then can use PCs to view the location of
patients wearing the tag via the RoamAlert system.

-John Halamka, CIO of Harvard Medical School, just
before Christmas, got chipped.

Halamka, 42, is testing the use of the technology for
its potential to help health workers to gain critical
medical information about an unresponsive patient.
Halamka, for example, an avid mountain and ice climber,
noted, "If I fall and I am not responsive, wouldn't it
be extraordinarily helpful for the people who rescue
me to know who I am and my medical history?"

While he said he is not advocating that people get
injected with RFID chips, Halamka decided to test it
so he could describe the experience to patients who
choose to take the same route.

He also noted that the RFID chip -- which will last 100
years -- doesn't raise privacy concerns since it
doesn't contain medical records, only an identifying
number pointing to the records.

"There is no way just from reading my tag for a
merchant to know who I am. It is just going to be a
number," he said.
