Ji-Eun was still sleeping. Davy knew this because ... well, she was asleep. Her eyes were closed and she looked soft and sweet. Not that she didn't look sweet when she was awake, except when she was irritated -- but even then she was still sweet -- but she looked particularly sweet when she was sleeping. Davy was a sap, this he knew. But he also knew that JiJi loved him for it so he was happy to be a sap for her. Jin, however, wasn't sleeping. He wasn't crying, either, which was a relief. Especially since he'd woken them up at four in the morning. But since Jin was being quiet, Ji-Eun could sleep and Davy could entertain the baby. Davy peeked his head up over the edge of the bassinet and made a face at his son, crossing his eyes and sticking out his tongue. Jin burped and smiled, which Davy took as a laugh. He made a few more faces at the baby, then stood up and reached down, picking Jin up and cradling him in his arms. Jin was so tiny. Kind of like a dragon baby, only without the wings, tail, talons, or scales. And at least Jin didn't burp fire. Moving farther away from the bed so that he wouldn't wake Ji-Eun, Davy continued making faces down at Jin as he sat in the rocking chair by the window. Then he settled Jin into one arm and offered the pointer finger of his free hand to the infant. Jin latched immediately upon Davy's forefinger and pulled the tip into his mouth, gnawing on it with toothless gums. Smiling, Davy said softly, "Now, Jin. You have a mighty reputation to live up to, you hear? Your grandpa Jin was a great Auror. He scared Daddy a lot when Daddy and Mommy were dating, even though Mommy always promised Daddy that grandpa Jin wasn't going to kill Daddy. Daddy was just too stupid to believe her, but Mommy is always right. And Mommy is a ninja, and Daddy is her protector, so that's a lot to live up to already. But you're also a Gudgeon, so we're going to start working on that laugh, okay? Because any Gudgeon knows that laughter is the key to everything. That and being stupid enough to take on two older and bigger boys to protect the cute little first year girl they're picking on." He bounced Jin a little in his arms, and the baby smiled, though he still gnawed on Davy's fingertip. "Now, don't tell your Mum this, but dragons are really fun, and when you're old enough, Daddy is going to take you to see the dragons he works with. But Mommy won't let us keep one as a pet, Daddy already asked." Grinning, Davy reclaimed his finger and stood up, holding Jin gently but firmly. "Oh, and no matter what Mommy says, don't worry. Daddy's not going to drop you on your head." And then, making faces down at his son again, Davy headed out to the kitchen to get Jin a bottle. |
