Log: Raelene & Daphne
Who: Raelene Preece & Daphne Greengrass
What: Patching up
When: Before /after matches today
Where: Arrows vs Puddlemere match
Even though the season had pretty much gone to hell for the Arrows, Raelene Preece still did find some enjoyment out of her job. It wasn’t always easy, but she liked interacting with people, helping highlight the players on the team, and spinning a few fun interactions for fan experiences, among other things. It had been a rough season in more ways than one, but the silver lining for Rae was that she could count her blessings she was nowhere near the public relations job for Falmouth. Winning record or not, that would have been hell.
It was about a half hour before the match against Puddlemere was supposed to start, and Rae was on the sidelines speaking with a couple reporters, giving feedback on the season, and talking up a small charity drive that some of the players had been involved in recently. Looking around for Meagan McCormack, the team captain, Rae raised up her arm to wave her over to answer a couple questions when all of a sudden - WHAM! - a rogue bludger came roaring towards her and smacked into her arm that had been raised.
“Merlin bloody toast on a cracker,” she yelped out and held her arm protectively to her chest. McCormack had just arrived and insisted Rae be taken in to see a medic. Her arm didn’t feel broken, but it sure hurt like hell.
After finally agreeing to get checked out, she sat in one of the waiting areas. The medics weren’t even fully set up yet since the match hadn’t started. A few of them blatantly ignored her presence. The last medi-witch to arrive walked over, and Rae sighed but still kept her arm cradled against her body, “It feels just like a bad bruise; I don’t think it’s anything too serious.”
"No visible bones or blood, is always a good sign. We'll get ya sorted, no problem," Daphne smiled chipperly as she placed her bad down and went to work checking the arm Rae was cradling. "You work for Applebee?" She asked diverting the attention from the injury while she checked tissue and pressure points.
Rae nodded. “Yeah, I work with their public relations. I never considered it to be a physically dangerous job, but well,” she waved her good hand dismissively in the air. “I guess you never know what will happen even on the sidelines.” She knew it had been an accident, and she hoped no one thought themselves to be responsible. She’d heal.
Gingerly, she held out her arm so Daphne could examine her, wincing a little as she thought of the knot that would may form there later. “How bad does it look?”
"I think you'll survive this one," Daphne joked with a grin as she absently waved her wand for a non verbal accio. Two vials of potion and a small case from across the room leapt off the supply shelf and danced in their direction.
"Are you allergic to anything? Peanuts? Mugwort? Ginger fleas?" She asked to keep conversation going as she caught the vials and immediately began to shake them.
“No food,” Raelene answered. “Just some general seasonal allergies.”
"Do you smoke anything other than tobacco?" Daphne asked as opened the wooden case to reveal various shaped spoons stored in red velvet casing.
“Uhh.. well, no, nothing currently.” That didn’t mean Rae hadn’t in the past, but that shouldn’t have been relevant for why she was sitting in a medical tent.
"Do you drink alcohol? If so what's your poison of choice?" The mediwitch held out a spoon a little bigger than a soup spoon for Rae to take.
Raising a brow, Raelene nodded. If she’d been at a doctor for a lookup, the questions would be routine, but either way it wasn’t like it was a huge dive into personal questions. “I do. Negroni or an Old Fashioned, depending on my mood.”
"Oooh that sounds wonderful," Daphne chuckled before diving into business. Holding up a blue potion she guided Rae to hold up her spoon before she poured. "So this here will dull the pain a bit for the next hour or so."
"And this one," she held up a green potion as she handed Rae a second spoon a bit smaller than the first. While pouring the thicker substance she explained, "This one'll restructure the broken bits in there. It looks mostly bruised so blood vessels and the like. If, and that's a big if, there are any fractures it'll clear that up too."
“I’ve never been great at taking potions,” Rae said, taking the first swallow of the blue liquid. At the second, thicker one, she wrinkled up her nose at the looks of it but thankfully it wasn’t as bad as it looked. The potion she’d had to take as a child when she’d been sick had been a lot worse.
"You did great," Daphne assured with a genuine looking smile as she cleaned the spoons.
“Mum used to do the aeroplane in for a landing bit, but I caught onto her tricky ways soon enough.” She was joking a little.
Daphne laughed, "Ours used to be dragon going into its cave."
After a few seconds Rae noticed that the pain had already started to lessen. “Wow, that was fast.”
"Only the best for the best," Daphne offered as she placed her hands on her hips. "I wouldn't go flying or catching any bludgers for at least an hour. You might notice some tactile differences, but it'll wear off before bed."
“Trust me, I plan to stay away from even the sidelines for a while after this.” Outside of when Malcolm had gotten hurt so terribly, Raelene had never been gun-shy at the pitch. She still wasn’t, but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t take a precaution or two until she was all healed up and ready to go.
As the pain started to get less and less, Rae tested out her arm by stretching it out a bit and moving her wrist around. There were still some painful twinges but nothing at all like it had been at first or even a few moments ago. “Thank you,” she said with a smile to Daphne. “I really appreciate it.”
"Of course," Daphne smiled. "Check back in if anything changes."
