It was late when Conrad made his way down to the pool. Ever since Mike gave him something of a reality check, the Brit had been trying to force himself into a normal routine. Wake up in the morning, make himself breakfast. Work out, find a hobby.. And he had tried. Christ, he had given it his most valiant effort. He ate when he didn't particularly feel like eating and read books in the afternoon. But after a while, it was difficult to keep on pretending. Why was Conrad so upset over Wesley and Carol's disappearances? He barely knew them. It wasn't like Conrad had lost lifelong friends. Well. It was several things. The idea of being stuck at the Crown Plaza without them was extremely unpleasant. Conrad could make new friends, sure. And had, to his credit. Mike had been more than kind to him and chatting with others about tea over the Network had lifted his spirits. But Wes -- The very thought of him not returning caused his stomach to churn. Wesley was helping Conrad deal with a problem that he had been grappling with his entire adult life. And finally, Conrad had been making progress. Now, all of that progress seemed to go out the window. And Carol - Well. It was obvious why Conrad wanted her around. She was the closest thing to having Mason at his side without actually having Mason at the Crown Plaza. They were his anchors. And right now, Conrad felt rather lost without them. Initially, Conrad had gone down to the pool to swim a few laps. Maybe, the exercise would help him focus. Unfortunately, ten minutes into said workout, he pretty much gave up. He resorted to sitting on the concrete stairs at the shallow end of the pool, taking swigs from the whiskey bottle that he had smuggled down there with him. A bottle that he tried to hide in the crook of his arm the moment he heard someone coming.. |
