1. Malcolm is someone who has been called an old soul for most of his life. He knows that's usually due to the fact that he experienced a lot of trauma as a child, but he's also interested in the past. Maybe it was because he grew up rich, but he likes a good antique. To be honest, this is one of his favorite trips that the hotel has taken them on. He hopes that he'll be able to keep the suit when this is over. While walking down the main street, Malcolm passes a music store with a phonograph in the window and he instantly knows that he wants it. It's going to be an excellent addition to his room, and maybe having it will encourage the hotel to give him his records from home. He buys a few jazz and ragtime records as well. When else would he get a chance to purchase things like these? After paying for the phonograph, the clerk at the music store retrieves a wooden box from the back and puts it down in front of Malcolm. It's a lot bigger than he realized and for the first time Malcolm wonders how he's going to get this back to the hotel. He lifts it up in his arms and starts to walk with it, struggling to look around the box and make sure that he doesn't accidentally run into anyone. When he gets to the door of the hotel, he pauses, trying to figure out how he's going to open it. "Uhh," he says to whomever happens to be walking past him. "Would you be able to help me, please?" Malcolm shifts the huge phonograph box in his arms, hoping that he won't drop it by accident. 2. Later in the evening, Malcolm finds his way to the speakeasy in the pharmacy basement. Despite the fact that he's a cop, breaking the law this way is exciting. He usually prefers to drink alone in his room, but the atmosphere here is great. After ordering an Old Fashioned, Malcolm takes a sip. It burns the back of his throat as he goes down and his eyes water a bit. "That's some strong medicine," he tells the person sitting next to him. |
