Miguel had taken as many night patrols as Natasha would give him, with the main reason being that he could see perfectly in the dark. Then he'd sleep for a few hours in the morning, and wake up around lunchtime before doing whatever he and Ava needed to do during the afternoons and evenings. They'd holed up in a fairly big tree for the past few days, and Miguel had covered it in webs so that it looked not unlike a few other ones he'd seen. The bugs wouldn't think to check somewhere that was already 'theirs', and when they were up in the branches, he could feel any impact on the webs and let Ava know to phase down through the tree and get away. This afternoon, they'd been exploring some of the buildings nearby. Miguel had gotten to Sabrina's store and picked up some food and a couple of flavored drinks (and confirmed that yes, she and Salem had given him the least-awful sunglasses), before heading back towards Ava. They'd gathered together a few useful things, including a mostly-intact padded blanket that Miguel was intending to use to make the branches a little bit more comfortable, and were heading back towards their tree in order to get everything stashed away. They were maybe five hundred meters from the tree when he first heard the noise. A low drone in the distance that was approaching quickly. They hadn't been talking anyway, only too aware of the need to keep relatively quiet, but he still reached over to put his hand on Ava's arm. He brought a finger to his mouth in a "shhh" gesture, before looking round to see what was causing the sound. Wasps. Shocking hell. His eyes went completely white as he zoomed in on them, counting them quickly and seeing if he could identify them yet. "Three wasps," he said softly, "heading this way. Nearest cover?" |
