He followed after her, ignoring the dead beetle and stashing their supplies into the bush, before looking back round at the wasps again. They were far too big, he knew that much, but he had very little to compare them to in terms of relative size. So he knew they were bigger than Clint's dog, but not quite as big as the big cats at the carnival in Candyland, which was clearly very helpful.
"They appear to be spider wasps, Miguel," Lyla suddenly spoke up, her voice pitched low like theirs. The wasps were clearly now in her range, which meant that they were entirely too close for comfort. And if they were spider wasps, that meant that they hunted spiders. And he was half spider. He glanced at Ava, knowing that she would have heard what Lyla said, and that he wasn't ever going to put her in a dangerous situation if he had any say over things.
"Stay hidden or out of phase!" he snapped, his sudden panic/fear/worry making him sound angry before he softened it by adding, "they'll be after me, I think, not you. Stay safe."
The wasps were even closer now, so he moved quickly and headed back the way they'd come, away from Ava and their tree and back towards buildings he could climb and use to his advantage.
