Who: Chase and Sion
Setting: The Monorail Station
Chase knew that standing at the monorail station wasn’t going to do anything, but he couldn’t help himself. It made him feel better, waiting for Zeke like he was just early for the train and it would show up any minute now.
Too bad he’d already been there an hour.
He was even dressed for the occasion, black skinny jeans, his hair swept to one side that he thought Zeke might like, button down and a tie, which he’d pulled a little loose after the first half hour. Things had to just turn back on right? Even if it took all day, Chase was determined to be there when the train showed up. He was ready.
Sion was working himself into a downer of a mood. Cillian was amongst a bunch of people who were stuck up top, and that was bad enough, but then while they’d been messaging, he’d found out that there were a few people actually climbing the tracks to get up there. He knew one of them had to be Tris, and probably another was Ethan’s boyfriend the firefighter. It made him feel like he should have climbed up too… but it wasn’t as if anyone had asked if he wanted to come along or even mentioned it to him. Yep, they just had to be big damn heroes, didn’t they? Hopefully they hadn’t fallen and gotten their dumb asses killed, although he probably would have heard about it by now if they had. Everything just sucked right now, honestly.
There was nothing he could do at the monorail station, although in the back of his mind he thought he might look and see what the path the guys had taken might have looked like and if it looked as difficult a climb as he thought it would be. He moped along, wearing his most faded, holey jeans and a blue t-shirt, hands stuffed in his pockets. Sion was surprised when he saw Chase, looking like he was waiting for the train. “Hey,” he said, his eyes widening at how dressed up the guy was.
Chase looked up and grinned. “Hey there,” he said with a grin, but it faltered after a moment when he realized how sad and just sort of downtrodden Sion looked. “Hey, what’s wrong?” he asked, patting the spot next to him. “I’m sure they’re okay.”
“Just bummed,” Sion said, sitting down with a sigh. “I’ll be fine. I just want ‘em to be back here, you know?” It was bad enough sometimes to have no way home, but to have people they cared about separated from them was even suckier. “Why’re you dressed up?” he asked, wanting the focus off of himself.
“Why bummed?” Chase asked. “Are you waiting on someone special?” He tucked his feet up, sitting cross legged on the bench. “Am I? I just wanted to look nice,” he said, smoothing the tie a little. “I dress nice a lot.”
“My boyfriend’s up there,” Sion said. He really, really wished he’d been able to go up when Cillian had. It felt crappy to be down here not knowing that much about what was going on unless someone messaged him. He smiled at Chase, brightening a little. “You do look nice,” he said. He’d dress up for a party or going to a club but not so much for the day to day.
“Oh! Cillian! Yes. He told me. So cute.” Chase grinned, lightly elbowing Sion’s side. “My friend is up there too.” He wasn't sure what Zeke was something. Something lovely. It was really nice at least. “Thank you. I like clothes. They're like costumes.”
“Cute, and also hot,” Sion said, elbowing Chase back. It was hard to be in a bad mood around someone as smiley and open as Chase was, even given the circumstances. He smirked when Chase pointed out that clothes could be like costumes. “I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you’re hard to disguise when you’ve got hair that color.”
“Oh yes. Very hot. And sweet. You did good,” Chase grinned. He smiled at the comment of his hair, reaching up to brush at it without really touching it. “No, not a disguise. A costume. A way to be some other part of you. Or maybe something you're not.”
“I think so,” Sion said. His taste in men seemed to be improving, which could only be a good thing. Chase’s remarks about costumes gave him pause and he wasn’t even sure why. He gazed at the blond for a few moments and then said, “You couldn’t be the other part of you without a different outfit?” Mostly he was trying to figure out what Chase was getting at. He didn’t know the guy well at all, so there was a strong possibility he was missing something obvious.
Chase shrugged his shoulders. “No, but it’s easier isn’t it? It’s easier to feel confident when you look good, feel sporty with the right outfit,” he explained. “Or be someone else entirely. It’s all about the package. Put me in soccer shorts and socks and I’m a soccer twink looking for a football player to show me just how to please him.”
“Sounds like, you know, something you might do for work,” Sion said. He hadn’t forgotten Chase’s vocation. Did he do that in real life too? Put on other personas? That was kind of interesting. “I like to dress up if I’m going dancing,” he offered. “Makes it more fun, like you have some big exciting night planned.”
Chase laughed. “I know you know what I do,” he said with a wink. “But yeah, it’s for work. But it applies elsewhere. It’s like armor. There’s safety in it.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Sion said, his cheeks flushing slightly. “Nothing like finding out your next door neighbor’s seen your dick and balls, am I right?” Although he supposed Chase was used to that. He sighed, messing up his already mussed-up hair with one hand. “I wish we could live in a world where we didn’t have to feel like we needed armor,” he said idly. He wasn’t a porn star, but he knew what it was like to feel vulnerable, like it might be better to hide away.
Chase shrugged. “I got used to that face people make when they recognize me. Plus you were cute when you figured it out.” He smiled softly, nodding his head. “I wish too, but it's nice to have a back up plan. Like today I am pretending I'm in an old movie waiting on the train to arrive.”
Sion had to laugh at that, although he was still blushing. Cute was better than a total irredeemable perv, he guessed. He glanced at Chase and then down at himself. “Guess I’m spoiling your scenario,” he said. “Unless there were slobs in old movies.”
“You’re fine,” Chase promised, reaching over to try and tame Sion’s hair. “You’re telling a different story. That you desperately miss your boyfriend and have been falling apart without him,” he said. “I can’t quite play that part with Zeke. I think he’d laugh at me.”
“I don’t fall apart,” Sion said, forcing himself not to pull away from Chase. Let the guy try to straighten his hair, what would it hurt? Not that it would work, but that was another issue. “I just wish he was here.” He paused, glancing at the other man. “Is Zeke your, you know… boyfriend?” He’d seen Zeke around but had never actually talked to the guy that he could recall.
“It’s okay to fall apart. Romantic, even,” Chase said, having a little luck with Sion’s hair, probably more than most, but he was used to doing hair and makeup. He had for the girls at the club before he started working in film. “I don’t know,” he said honestly, shrugging his shoulders and putting his hands in his lap. “Maybe. Maybe not. I’ve never had a boyfriend.”
“Falling apart doesn’t get you anywhere,” Sion said, thinking of Christian and how distraught he seemed to get over Tris. “Either things will work or they won’t.” Sure, maybe it’d be an ego trip to have someone flipping out over him, but overall Sion just wanted to have a good relationship, enjoy the other person, have all those warm fuzzy feelings without constantly angsting. Maybe that was unrealistic, who knew? “Never?” he said, glancing at Chase. You’d think a guy with his looks would have been neck-deep in relationships.
“Well, no, but sometimes it’s flattering. I’m sure Cillian would be flattered to see you miss him.” Chase smiled, but shook his head. “That’s not right. You can make things work if you try hard enough. Happily ever afters are totally a thing.” He laughed and shook his head. “Never. I’ve never tried. Then work got in the way,” he said with a shrug.
“I do miss him,” Sion said. “I’m wondering if I should’ve tried to climb up there, but I didn’t know anyone was going.” He didn’t agree with what Chase said about trying hard enough, because sometimes that didn’t help. He’d been there and done that. But there was no point in dwelling on it and no point in mentioning it. He didn’t have the energy for pointless things today. “Are you gonna try here?” It wasn’t any of his business, but there was no harm in asking, he didn’t think.
“Did people climb it?” Chase asked, leaning back as he looked up, squinting. “That’s a long way to go. And rather high up.” Which just sounded dangerous. Zeke had been pretty adamant about Chase staying where he was, which Chase had taken seriously. “Maybe. Seems like it’s not completely up to me right? Zeke’s not one for dating either,” he explained. “We have found that things are...different between us, but I’m not going to push.”
“In one of Cillian’s messages he told me they were,” Sion said. He felt weird about it, continually second guessing himself as to if he’d made the right choice by staying down here. So the guys who had looked like heroes or whatever, he was sure. Ugh, even here there were those life choices. “Well, it’s up to both of you if that’s what you wanna do. Or not. There’s not really a wrong way if people are happy.” Not that he was a relationship expert, but it seemed like common sense to him.
“Oh.” Chase made a face then sighed. “Well, now I wish I’d gone too. I mean, Zeke would have been upset, but it’d be nice to see him, you know?” He glanced at Sion and chuckled. “I know. I’m just still figuring it out. Figuring us out. I’ve never...well never really done anything like this before. For me.”
“Yeah,” Sion said. It was disconcerting to not really know what he should do in certain situations. Somehow this place made him second guess everything. He nudged Chase’s shoulder with his and said, “It’s good to do things you haven’t done before sometimes.” There was something about the guy that made him want to be supportive and encouraging. Maybe it was just that he looked so young.
“Well, they’ll be back and we can see them then,” Chase said with a nod. He was sure of that much. He had to be. He’d get sad if he was wrong for some reason. “It is. It’s been nice so far, I’m just not sure what comes next. I might have to lean on Zeke for that.”
Sion knew what he hoped would come next: not getting dumped. He’d had enough of that in the past few months. He was trying to be optimistic, adjust his attitude, all that good stuff. What would be, would be, right? “One step at a time,” he said, thinking that they could both keep that in mind.
