I know that I spent Christmas on the island, and yet suddenly I feel as though I spent it in Poplar as well- there was an unexploded bomb and we were all evacuated- there was a Polio outbreak and- oh. Nonnatus house is no more. Gosh. It all worked out in the end, but- it was the strangest thing. It feels like a memory more than a dream.

Now, I know that we have quite the increasing number of children on the island here, and I was thinking that it might be really good fun if we had a little check that all of your immunisations are up to date. They'll stop you from getting terribly sick, and if you're awfully good, you'll get a delicious sweet.

Parents- It would be greatly appreciated if you would being your child along, or any children in your care, so that we can see about getting their vaccinations up to date, and creating a proper record for their health. Contact me for an appointment, or simply show up to an open clinic

I'll be holding an open clinic every Monday and Wednesday, 9.00-12.00, (and in the afternoon, if required, or by appointment. I will see how this plays out, and cut or increase hours as necessary.)This is primarily for obstetrics and paediatric care, but I will be happy to see anyone about a problem they don't want to bother a doctor with and I will pass you on to them if necessary.

Also, please remember that you can call upon me 24/7 for any concerns regarding a pregnancy, or the health of your child.

Indeed, dear, I think I shall stay away from the supermarket - as if I'd been there in weeks, anyway's....! I mean, I'm married to Ernest-fucking-HEMINGWAY, the renowned hunter; why should I even bother with your obviously inferior meats, that may not even be labelled properly within that supermarket.... I mean, how am I supposed to trust that someone who thinks to call me special when she can't even remember to use prepositions in her prepositional phrases is smart enough to tell the difference between a deer and a reptile of some sort....?

You can't save her now. She's a stupid fuck who needs a hole stomped in her head. I told you. I wont kill her, but she's going to wish she was dead once I get through showing her that you don't piss off a redneck bitch and get to walk away.

You two are on your own. Nothing I say to either of you makes any difference. I'm done. Allow me the time to take my son away. This is not his fault.

Of course. You and your son can come stay in Stark Tower. There are protocols in place that wont allow her beyond the lobby. If your health is bad JARVIS can do scans and keep you abreast of the situation, set alarms for your medications, among other things. He can't babysit your kid but we have a lot of people in the building that are willing to help out.

Let me know when you have him, I wouldn't put it passed her to use a kid as a shield.

Really? That would be absolutely swell, thank you. I thought you hated My son is no trouble as long as my health holds out. Which- well, the medical staff here are much more advanced than in my own time. It should be fine.

I'm going now. I'll let you know.

Yes really. But if you decide to take her back she still will not be able to do more than enter the building. Even if she does she'll set off alarms and get turned down by a very snarky AI if she tries to use the elevator or any other means to enter the living quarters. I wont let her that close to my family.

I'm not going to punch her lights out. My husband has seen fit to intervene. But he's already told me he wont be doing it again. She wont get another pass to insult me. Or provoke me, which I don't doubt was her intention by mentioning my son in the first place.

Of course, I understand perfectly. In that case, I will accept your offer, at least in the short term, until we can sort out something a little more permanent.

The apartments are nice, only two bedroom, but they're big two bedroom. So you can make them home if you like it. If it feels homey to you.

I have nothing against you, just so you know.

More than spacious enough for just the two of us. If you're sure.

I know, thank you. Likewise. It was all circumstantial.

I don't give a flying shit who you're married to.

That's it. I'm hunting your stupid ass down. You better run, and you better hide, and hope to fuck that I can't smell you out because I'm going to flay the flesh from your bones.

I'm going to kick her ass Clint. I love you, but no one insults my cooking and then attempts to play grammar nazi when she writes the way she does, and gets away with it. I don't have to go kitty to beat her like she hasn't ever been beat before.

And what good will it do? She'll just have an excuse to get more sympathy and have something to rally against you with. Everyone who knows you and especially knows your cooking won't give a shit about her opinion. Sometimes it's just not worth the sore knuckles and headaches that follow, trust me.

What sympathy would she get? I'm tired of talking. I'm tired of my threats being seen as nothing more than hot air, Clint. She doesn't listen, to me, to the people telling her to leave them the fuck alone, to her own husband. Maybe if she gets it beat into her head she'll listen to that, because nothing else is working.

It's time she payed for what she's done.

Do you really want Bucky hearing that you've beat some woman for talking about him? You know he'll hear it, somehow it always gets around and he's already figured out how to work JARVIS and the phones. You and I both know we could protect anyone from anything she might try but we can't protect him from that guilt.

That's not the only reason Clint. She went after Harry, now she's going after Malcolm. Next it'll be you, and Mitchell, and Annie... And she wont stop. She can't get away with treating people the way she treats them. She thinks she can because she's some hot shot wizard cop in Harry Potter land.

I failed in protecting Sean. I can't... I can't fail in protecting you and my kids. Verbal abuse is still abuse.

You didn't fail anyone Maryanne.

And I know it's not the only reason but that's what he'd think if he heard, hell even if he didn't hear about why you did it. Because any kid who's had that life has a tendency to think it's their fault no matter how many times you tell them it's not.

He had to kill our Dad, he was trying to protect our Mom. But he was too late. And he had to bury both of them. If I hadn't been a coward, if I hadn't ran... If I would have stood up to him, or done it myself. Sean wouldn't be trying to kill himself with booze every chance he gets.

Tell me what I can do to make her stop, then, because it's either make her disappear or... force her to see reason. Words wont do it. They didn't coming from Mitchell, they wont coming from anyone else.

None of that shit was your fault Mary. If you hadn't left it could have been you your brother put in the ground. And without you half of the people on this island wouldn't be where they are. Hell, I probably would have done something stupid enough to get myself killed when my hearing aids stopped working if you hadn't been around to make me feel human. We'll help Sean. He's getting there, I think he finally realizes and is willing to admit it's a problem and we'll get him there. But none of it is your fault.

One more chance. Just give it one more shot. If she does it again I won't even try to stop you.

Because you're scared. I was too. But it'll be okay, we'll help him. He's not going to end up like that. I promise.

This has nothing to do with her. I love you Maryanne, I hate seeing what she does to you.
