95 years ago, the guns stopped and peace was declared. I wish this was the end of the story, I truly do. I wish I could have told you that the 16 million lives lost in The Great War put a stop to all warfare. I wish I could have told you that the 20 million wounded and injured were enough to put an end to it. I wish I could say a lot of things but I fought alongside the best and brightest in another war that saw even more loss.

Remembrance Day isn’t just about The Great War or remembering those lives sacrificed, or the losses they endured. To me, Remembrance Day was always and will always be thanking the brave who fought and tried towards a better future. There’s not a lot I wouldn’t do to save my family or my friends and I saw a lot of battle blasts and shell shock. Don’t forget the human element behind the propaganda because black and white photos will never tell the whole story.

If you’re asking what good it did, there’s only one thing I can proffer; hopefully for you a world without war and a life full of colour. We can all hope.

Thank you.

It does, doesn't it? Old, too. I should be in my 90s.

Quite dead, in my case. How morbid.

Probably in my case too. All the more reason to live, I suppose.

Certainly, we would do best to treat it as a fortunate opportunity.

I thank every day that I came here.

Yes. I do try to, except that I do terribly miss my friend- although, that is most silly of me, because I would be missing him terribly if I were in the grave anyway, I suppose. Or at least, he me. I don't know that you do much thinking when you're- ah, I'm getting off track.

I'm sorry you lose your friend but I lost my partner too back home, but he's here now. Maybe your friend will come to you again.

Yes, quite right. Hope is certainly a very powerful remedy. Thank you.

One of the most powerful. Keep your hope, my friend.

As do I, ma'am....! I mean, I wasn't dead by a war per se, but... well. I most certainly was dead before I arrived here!
