How does a person endure mandatory bed rest and maintain their sanity?

I've never done it, so I don't really know, but maybe you could find something to do to keep your mind busy. You can talk to people on these phones. Or read, there's certainly plenty to read. Do you have any hobbies that you can do in bed? That sounds wrong. Do you do anything like knitting or scrapbooking?

I've been reading, there comes a point when even I can read too much. I'm not used to enforced idleness, it doesn't sit well with me.

I don't even know what scrap booking is, and I can safely say you don't want me near needle and thread. The results aren't pretty.

I could visit with a deck of cards and some board games. Would that help?

We don't know how long you'll be in that body. You may want to study relaxation techniques for labour.

Perish the thought! I don't even want to imagine that, let alone practice techniques. I'm supposed to be the coach, not the participant.

It's best to be prepared for every possibility. And if you do switch back in time, you'll be a well informed coach.

Surely I'll switch back before then, the last few times this happened the effects barely lasted a month.

It was all I did in hospital, I think. Read and sleep. But it does become extremely dull.

I can visit, if you like. I'm bringing my son up anyway.

Perhaps tomorrow? I don't want to reject any offer of company but I'd rather not everyone come at the same time.

How is your son adapting to the island?

Sure, why the hell not. I've hardly got a full schedule.

He's pretty adaptable, we've moved about a lot. He's lived in a few different countries in his short life already. But he's always asking when his mother is joining us, and it's difficult to know how to explain.

Thank you, I look forward to the visit.

That would be difficult, how does one explain the island to a small child?

A worthy goal, I've finished bringing myself up to date with the various archeological journals.

I don't believe we've met. I'm Ramses Emerson.

I take a bold guess here: you are an archeologist? Brilliant. Have you searched the island yet?

Tom Sully, nice to meet you. I've only been here for a few days. You've been here for a couple of months, yeah?

I am, yes. Egyptologist and philologist to be precise.

It shames me to say this but I've been busy with other things and there has been so much turnover since I've arrived that it only recently occurred to me to try.

I've been here since around the first of the year. Have you been made aware of the...oddities of the island and where people come from?

You should take a look at it. I'm texting with Amelia and she's explaining a bit about this place to me. But I think it would be good to see if her story works out, you know?

Yeah, my brother told me a bit about it and I'm going back through the blogs here to search for information. Pretty crazy place, huh? You are normally a guy, yeah?

So you've communicated with Amelia? You should be honored, the girl is quite reclusive. I definitely will in investigate the notion once I'm allowed out of this cursed bed.

Crazy, an accurate summation though the island isn't all bad. I met my wife here for example.

Yes, the island seems to have decided that Calliegh and I needed time in each others bodies. Given she's nearly five months gone with twins this has been a radical change and one I hope is over soon.

So what is your specialty? You're a scholar as well?

Yeah, I am. She seems very nice. A woman met her, right? I should have written her name down.

I'm glad to be here. The island literally saved my life. But, man, that must be strange. What does it feel like to be a woman?

I've got a PhD in Xenoecology but my knowledge is broader, did a lot of interdisciplinary work at the research group I was working with.

So far I believe three women have met her, that I know of. Maria Stark, Micha Delmare, and my sister-in-law Bridget. Though the last one was more about Amelia wanting a peek at Bridget's twins than anything else, from what I recall.

It's cursed strange. I thought this belly wasn't so bad when I saw it on someone else, but when it's on you the blasted thing is huge! And the children are almost constantly active, though I suppose that is a good thing all things considered. My emotions vary minute to minute for no reason, I've already needlessly made an ass of myself at least once. If nothing else it is giving me an appreciation for what women go through whilst pregnant.

Xenoecology? So the study of alien life? You must be an adherent of Mr. Darwin's philosophies then.

Thank you. I shall talk to them.

You make me be thankful that I will never have that experience. Unless the same weirdness happens to me.

Darwin? Yeah, sure. Is there Which time are you from?

Xenoecology is the study of the interaction between alien organisms. Predetators and prey, parasites, that kind of stuff. My brother can explain to you in great lengths how boring it is.

My pleasure, you might wish to put out a all persons call on the network to see if there are any others.

I said something similar a few weeks ago. The island has a strange sense of humor.

It was 1911 before I arrived here. I'm British, though more of my life has been spent in Egypt and the Levant than back on the isle.

Interesting. I'm sure Archaeology would be just as boring to those who aren't interested in it. You're very different from each other yes?

I'm not sure if you're familiar with a Japanese game called Sudoku, but it's an interesting game, at least...! Keeps your mind very busy, in fact! And of course, though the internet at large seems to be lost to us on this island, well... there's access to websudoku.com here, at least. If you need any tips or explanations beyond what the website offers, you can feel free to ask me; I've worked up almost to the Evil level puzzles myself...! Heh!

Not to quibble but Sudoku is an American adaptation of a Japanese game with a different name that I can't remember at the moment.

Ah, is it really? Because here all this time, I thought I was getting back in touch with my roots, by playing for it...! Boy do I feel sheepish. Hah! Sorry, sir...

But now you have me curious about the real Japanese game, and its name...! I wonder if Bing will be accessible on this island! Or even GOOGLE, I suppose, as a last resort...

I think they don't want me moving much at all right now. I'm allowed to get up to use the toilet, that's it. My meals are being brought up to me, since the kitchen is downstairs and I'd have to cross the length of the house on both floors to get to it.

Perhaps Dr. Banner or one of the scientists or magic users here could heal your legs?

If the island can put my mind in the body of a pregnant woman surely there's something here that can give you the ability to walk again.
